ASICS Metaspeed Sky+ - Orange Pop/Island Blue 3.5

The ASICS Metaspeed Sky+ for men are neutral competition running shoes. Most runners belong to the group that gets faster by taking longer strides. This type of runner is also called a "stride runner". And it is for these runners that the Metaspeed Sky+ was designed. This ASICS model is designed to help you achieve a personal best time in both a 5K run and a marathon. The Metaspeed Sky+ scores with numerous innovations. The carbon plate is located closer to the foot in this model. There is correspondingly more foam under the plate, which returns more energy when running. In addition, the slightly curved outsole pushes your feet forward. The upper of the Metaspeed Sky+ has been completely redesigned. The Motion Wrap mesh material is lightweight, offers improved breathability, more comfort and a supportive fit. FlyteFoam BLAST TURBO foam is used in the midsole. Turbo Foam is 30% more resilient than regular foam. It gives the Metaspeed Sky+ a soft and springy feel that combines with the carbon plate for a forward propulsive motion. The outsole is made of ASICSGRIP rubber and provides good grip and traction on dry and wet road surfaces. The Metaspeed Sky+ is perfect for runners who want to write new best times.

A perfect race shoe for both short & long distance

(Disclaimer: I built up to the marathon distance by using these in a speedwork session, a 10K, a half, and a 16 mile training run. Plus required strength training.) If you've worn Asics for your entire running career as I have, your foot will feel right at home since the general shape has similarities to their other models. Release some new colors. My only constructive criticism? I'll be buying new pairs for years to come. Maybe black, red and gold?

And despite all of the miles I've put on them, which is probably approaching 250 or so, they're holding up incredibly well and still have that snappy return with each stride. I'll still use my usual rotation of shoes of various other brands for training, but I'll always grab these first on race day.

I never find any official review talks about this. Thus I am pointing out here. I am afraid it will affect product lifespan and balancing. I was on the fence but so glad I bought these
20 May 2023

If you’re on the fence as to whether you should buy these then I’d highly recommend going for it! I’ve recently managed a half marathon PB in these and have even noticed my training pace is noticeably quicker both when pushing and taking things easier. This will be down to my training too, but feel like this shoe maximises my performance. You really notice the ‘pop’ when your running takes you up some steps; popping up 2 steps at a time feels so easy.If you’re running on an uneven surface then I’d take care as you can get quite a bit of ankle roll due to the height, although you do get a wide surface contact area with your foot planted - perfect for the road/ pavement but I wouldn’t wear these on mixed runs where you encounter uneven grassy/ gravel tracks. Love Asics but toe curve too much

I received my Metaspeed with great excitement. I am not a great runner averaging about 9 min/miling, and I do have an issue which is Hallux Rigidus (stiffening of the big toe), which means I run in Carbon plated shoes for medical reasons not to be an elite. So finding comfy shoes is an absolute nightmare.I have loved Asics since I don't know when, so when the Metaspeed came out I was super excited, however, I owned a pair of Nike VaporFlies, and New Balance FuelCell. So I didnt really need the first model of Metaspeed. Now both my shoes are old, I was able to get a pair of Metaspeed, only to find out there was a + version.I put them on, and within minutes my big toes were being forced up causing pain and discomfort. Sadly there was no way I could run in these. However, I so wish I could. The upper felt amazing, the bounce amazing, no high arches, stable, and I imagine great for triathlon transition. It just felt a great shoe.So my advice if you are keen to run in the metaspeed and you have HR like me, then go for the original Metaspeed. Which I did, and I absolutely love them. To me they have all the same as the new shoe, but just not the extreme curve at the end forcing your big toe up.

My favorite shoe of all time, just be aware of the low heel drop
15 May 2023

This is my favorite running shoes I have ever owned over 15 plus years of running. It has a lower heel drop at 5 mm than a majority of running shoes out there. I could feel that as soon as I put them on and was not convinced I would like them. However, after a couple of runs I completely changed my mind. I am a mid foot striker, tend to get some mid foot pain and I found these both very well cushioned AND extremely responsive. They definitely gives some energy back with every stride. They are a bit wider in the toe box as well if you have a wider mid foot. I run on country roads and the material of the upper keeps my feet cool and dust free which is a nice change. If you are looking for a very well cushioned, responsive and light longer distance shoe, this one is ... MoreThis is my favorite running shoes I have ever owned over 15 plus years of running. Not true to size
31 October 2022

I bought these shoes as I wanted a premium carbon plated race shoe. I have owned dozens of Asics and a size 10 has always fit me perfectly with zero issues. The Meta Speed Sky Plus felt great for shorter distances but over 6 miles I found them extremely narrow and slightly short. I could not have known about this issue until running longer distances making the shoes unfit to return so, given the cost of the shoe, I persevered up to marathon distance. I completed a marathon in the Meta Speed Sky Plus and my feet hurt severely for most of the run, it ruined my experience and cost me at least 10-15 minutes over the 26.2 miles. On a positive note, if I got the fit right, these shoes could have been a joy. I was really happy with the Metaspeed Sky last year, but reviews I read indicated that I might be interested in the Edge+ for this iteration so I gave them a shot. They fit true to size.I've only got about 20 miles in them so far over 2 different workouts, the first 4-5 miles they felt pretty stiff and not super responsive but by the end of the first workout and for the entirety of the second workout they felt great. Turnover felt smooth, transitions were silky with a nice responsive feel, and the cushion came alive. My biggest grievance has been I've been unable to keep the laces tied without double knotting. Obviously not the biggest problem in the world, and I can certainly double knot easy enough, but I've had these come untied 4 times in ~20 miles while I ... MoreI was really happy with the Metaspeed Sky last year, but reviews I read indicated that I might be interested in the Edge+ for this iteration so I gave them a shot. These may well be the best shoes Ive ever had. Still getting used to them if Im honest as coming from Altra so having to change my form slightly, although very much appreciate the lower toe drop of these compared to a lot of shoes.I cant say anything about the durability at the moment. My initial concern was the lack of more substantial, durable, rubber towards the back of the shoe. But this seem a liitle unfounded as the shoe feels like it encourages mid to forefoot striking. In terms of comfort, i've had recent issues with achiles and forefoot soreness and its just not a problem with these shoes, so great in that respect. But all things considered, they are alas a racing shoe.In terms of Fit, some shoes I'm an 8, some an 8.5. An 8 would have felt too small I suspect. My only dissapointment is not with this shoe specifically, but the Asics product range. The toe drop, the cushioning, the ride, the fit... all perfect. But Asics dont appear to have a non carbon shoe of a similar geometry that is designed to be more durable (if very slightly heavier). For that I may have to look elsewhere. There is a competitor that appears to have taken this insight on board so hoping Asics will follow suit.

I have 43 miles in 3 runs on these so far (a track session, a tempo run, and a 22 mile with 9 miles at marathon pace). They seem to take a little to break in but I am very happy with how they felt during the 22 miler.Pros: Once up to speed, they help reduce your RPE at pace and almost feels like they are taking care of the pacing for you. I was even able to land very heavily at times without any negatives effects on my legs or feeling. After the run might actually be the best aspect of them, minimal to no soreness or fatigues in my legs. They also feel very fast at 5k-10k pace and when you need to get up on your forefoot for some added speed. Grip in wet surfaces was wonderful.
