I bought it for trail use but it was more comfortable than my other ASICS. I also used them for golf because the ASICS golf shoe was a miserable fit, I didn’t like the tread & it was not flexible enough. I eventually bought a golf shoe from another brand. If you bring back the Torrance Trail keep the great features in the knit & also offer an all leather for wet hiking / golf.My last ASICS was a Gel-Contend that I bought for daily comfort & wear but it just doesn’t feel great. After wearing them I also realized the solid material at the toe box which attaches to the knit is not uniform on each shoe. One toe box is a different / smaller shape than the other. So I wish this brand could do better. I was introduced to the brand decades ago by a trainer who worked with an Olympic athlete that was a strong brand advocate, and for many years ASICS was wonderful. In recent years I noticed that my physical therapist who is on her feet all day preferred ASICS; however she has also switched to other brands.Thank you for the opportunity to share I hope meaningful information.

Comfortable "all around" sneakers

I've owned three pairs of these sneakers, which I've used for running/jogging, walking, the gym, and everyday wear around town. Although less cushioned than higher priced shoes, I actually prefer the lower stack height and firmer ride as I have a weak ankle that sometimes starts to roll a bit and get achy with shoes that have softer mid-soles, higher stack height (esp. in the heel), and/or lack stability. For me these shoes have been really stable, comfortable, and versatile. I've worn these shoes for a variety of runs (easy runs, strides, long runs, and some speed work) and walks (up to 9 miles) on different surfaces (trails, treadmill, but mainly pavement) and they've worked fine. I also find them to be stable enough to do heavy squats and lunges in at the gym. They're really breathable and fairly lightweight.I just wish they had more durable mesh in the upper and slighter harder, more durable rubber in the outsole. These were two areas that experienced premature wear on the first pair of these that I owned. These shoes seem fairly "true to size" and standard in their sizing. I have a men's "size 10.9, width C" (slightly narrow) foot and can wear these in either a 10.5 or 11 (Medium, Standard, "D" width) but the size 11 gives my toes plenty of extra room so that's what I wear currently.

I'm sure they're great for most people (as they'd always been for me, until now), but I have some random & specific feedback that could posssssibly help someone else out there -- the front/toe part does not fit the same as previous models. I've been wearing the gel-contends for 14 years now, ever since I was fitted for them at a running store. I always reorder and don't care which model/version they are, since I can never tell the difference and they're always reliable, regardless. This time I ordered the Gel-Contend 8, and my toes slide forward after taking just one step. I tried with my orthotics in, orthotics out, orthotics + the included insert, tried my usual lace tightness, and also the tightest they would go... and still the same issue. (And of course this was my usual size, so no error there.) I also ordered 2 pairs of these, so it wasn't just a one-off, either. I checked my previous email receipts, and I've had nearly all of the previous models/versions up to Gel-Contend 7, so there's never been an issue until model 8. I had an extra pair of new ones in my closet (model 4) and those fit like usual, so nothing has changed with my feet. Suuuper weird problem to arise, but I had to return both of the Gel-Contend 8s that I ordered. I actually took a comparison picture (pre-step vs. post-step wearing the shoes) because my mom wears the same ones and I was explaining my confusion/frustration with her.I've been searching high and low for previous models/versions (anything Gel-Contend 7 and earlier) but I can't find them anywhere [even searched the resale websites, but no one has unworn ones in a "normal" color that are my size (which is 9.5, so not anything rare)]. I don't know if there's a way to contact me, but if anyone finds where to get some, please let me know!!! Like I mentioned, I've been wearing these same shoes for over 14 years, and I'd hate to switch now, but it looks like I might have to.

Great shoe great value!
14 September 2024

Very good quality shoe for the money its a great value for someone looking for a serious running shoe and cant afford anything better. The greatest thing abot it is I beleive this shoe is going to be the best your going to get for this money compared to everything else at the same price. This is a good training and conditioning shoe that is light enough to race in if you had to but of course there is better more expensive options out there for a race shoe. I rate this shoe 5 stars especially for the value you get out of this one. What I like most about it is the classic look of the shoe that is not over the top crazy looking like a lot of other shoes out there are.

It's OK. More padding might do the trick.
4 November 2024

Good walking and jogging. I paid a reduced price which was fine. Selected the lighter color, consisting of white and grey shades. Good for the hot sun, not great for dirt and grime. Overall, have owned many pairs of Asics and they deliver a consistently good product. Not as padded as other alternatives such as HOKA. YMMV. I do not work for a shoe manufacturer, the sales company or this website.

Just like my old ones!
11 August 2024

I've been wearing the same beat up pair of Asics for years and finally decided to get a new pair. I wanted something that felt just like my old ones, and this is as close as I'm going to get. I think the toe box might be just a tad wider in the new ones, because I find myself wiggling my toes a lot which I never did before... But the difference isn't big enough to make the shoes uncomfortable. I have always preferred Asics because they are a little on the narrow side and provide a snug fit around my skinny feet. Please don't ever change this! Folks with wide feet have so many options made just for them - it's hard to find good fitting shoes for narrow feet.

Needs an arch support

Ive worn Asics for probably 3 decades, Gels for maybe 2 decades (have they been around that long?), and Contends since version 3 (I think). They usually fit my feet just right. For some reason, with the Contend 8, I HAD TO go up a half size to make them fit like previous versions - the 1/2" material that touches the sole and wraps around the toe box rubbed my toes just below the the of my toenails... maybe other versions it was a little taller to wrap up over my nails a bit?For me, these running shoes see more "running of errands" than "running miles", but I do already have several miles worth of errands, neighborhood walks, and work hours on them in a month's time. For this reason, I couldnt imagine these having a long life as a running shoe. The company exchanged the first pair; the dark blue top layer of mesh fabric had 1in fatique tears all over, with only 4 days of running errands.

Product Came Damaged
7 December 2023

I am a sneaker collector and bought a pair of Asics and it was shipped in a shipping bag instead of an outer box so the custom shoe box came destroyed. When I contacted Asics they had 3 or more different people emailing me the same message on the same thread despite me already sending them the story along with pictures but more associates just kept emailing me like it was the first response again. I asked about returning and if they would cover return shipping since it is a damaged product but they just sent me some generic information and avoided the question. It was super frustrating and I won't be buying from Asics again which is too bad because I been using Asics sneakesr for over 30 years. The organization has terrible customer service and the shoes themselves are not what they used to be. The tongue is super thin with minimal padding and it feels like there is minimal stability when wearing the shoe like I'm only wearing a sole. I know it sounds odd to be upset about a destroyed box but I could get that type of shipping from Amazon for half the price and for other sneaker collectors out there they will understand the box is a part of the overall product like the outer jacket that a vinyl music record comes in. It's just cheap, sloppy shipping practices to save money. I tried to work with them but it went nowhere so I'm leaving this review as an alternative.

True to size for mixed use
22 November 2024

I wear 8.5 in most shoe styles, though many times I size up to a 9 in sneakers. However, this sneaker had so many "true to size" reviews that I ordered these in 8.5. They fit wonderfully. One foot is slightly longer than the other, and that longer foot is almost touching the toe box, but there is still room. This particular fit is perfect for my mixed use (running, walking, training, etc). If I were ordering these as purely walking shoes, I may suggest sizing up 1/2 size so there's more of a thumb's width in the toe box. However, for running I think the "true to size" size is perfect. My foot is also slightly narrow, and these are great and the laces can tie up in the perfect spots to make it as secure as I need.

[Rewarded Review] Very comfortable and nice
21 February 2024

Perfect! I usually only buy shoes in stores, because I'm worried that there will be some problem with them, they will be too small or too big, they will squeeze or break my heels and fingers if I don't try them on before buying. However, I found either no Asics shoes at all or only a very small selection in the surrounding shops. Unfortunately, I didn't like what there were either. Either they were too colourful, or the soles extended too far back at the heel, etc... Finally, I found three pairs, which I really liked on the Asics web shop, so I ordered one pair of them. When they arrived and I tried them on, it was like Cinderella's glass shoes in the fairy tale. They were fantastic comfortable, so I ordered the other two pairs as well. I love them!
