The Trabuco Max 2 are a great all-rounder on the trails. They have a decent grip and are ultra comfy for long miles. The cushioning is top class and provides comfort even on prolonged stretches of tarmac. I previously had the original Trabuco Max and was sad to see the lacing system change but it’s only a minor regret given everything else this show provides.

Pros: Breathable upper, traditional laces with lace garage, cloud like cushion that is still responsive, wider toe boxCons: Poor performance on technical sections due to base being wider than normal (similar to Bondi 8 style but not as pronounced) which makes it easier to twist your ankle. I had to slow down on technical sections to focus on foot placement way more than usual as the wide base kept getting in the way and catching rocks on the side. The wider toe box is welcome especially for those long haul races, but my feet did not feel secure which caused them to move around more and aided in the ankle twisting time on technicals and downhills. I would only recommend these shoes for trails wider than 6" and for trails that have no major rooty or rocky sections as you will need all the space to place your feet with the wide base. I'd still recommend these shoes but only for long haul rail to trail or non technical trails. If you are going to go fast and have a lot of turns or any technical spots, these may not be the best.

This is my second year running in the Trabuco Max. I love this trail shoe because I can run on a mix of terrain: granite trail, rocky trail, dirt and some road. The tread provides great grip and the cushion is like running on air. Love that ASICS went back to a traditional lacing system on these shoes. The only negative for me is these are running a half size too small again. I ordered my standard size that I purchase for the Kayano and Trabuco (not Max), ran in them once and felt my toes hit the front of the shoe the entire time. Order a half size larger and they fit well. It’s almost like these are actually a fourth size too small.ASICS- please fix the sizing issue on these shoes as they are perfect otherwise!

Love this new comfortable update! I’ve run in the previous model, which I thought was a bit tight. This updated version is wider and therefore even more comfortable around the feet. I also experience that the shoe has got an even better grip on gravel roads, stones and rooty trail, and also more foam in the sole. Good model for long trail runs or winter roads!
I love how these trail shoes feel as comfortable as ASICS road shoes but with the added grip and secure feeling around your ankle/foot. I've often found that I can feel every rock or bump on a trail but these shoes provide me with so much more comfort than previous trail shoes I've had. This makes them perfect for me as I run trails with a mix of terrain - they can grip on muddy tracks but also feel comfortable if I have a stretch of road to run along too.I wear these trail shoes in the same size as my road shoes and think they fit very well. If anything a half size bigger may be better but I am happy running in these.
Wow this new version has undergone some obvious changes in upper, midsole and outsole-definitely looks beefier! I was impressed by how comfortable the FF Blast+ midsole was on my recent trail run.It also now sports conventional laces. I did love the speedlace in the previous version but am equally happy with this new system. The Max 2 will be my go to for trails of any distance; great cushion and comfort.
The ASICS Trabuco Max 2 Trail shoes are a great choice for those seeking a durable and comfortable trail running shoe. The shoe features a sturdy outsole with excellent grip on various terrains, making it perfect for tackling rough trails. The upper is made of breathable mesh material, providing ample ventilation and preventing overheating during long runs. Additionally, the shoe has ample cushioning, providing a comfortable ride and preventing foot fatigue. The only downside is that the shoe might feel a bit heavy for some users. Overall, the ASICS Trabuco Max 2 Trail shoes are a reliable and robust choice for those who love trail running.
I bought these for running 100km + trail ultra marathons, for which I have run several already in the previous trabuco max shoes. On my first long run I ran through a river and then up a hill and the innersoles started sliding around and curling up under my toes. The foam in the base of the shoe is so slippery when wet that the innersoles no matter what type will slide all over the place. On contacting ASICS, all they could say was we can’t supply you with innersoles, you can buy more from athletes foot. The problem isn’t the inner soles.Pretty unhappy these shoes would only be good for dry ultras because they certainly are not good in the wet
Having worked my way through 6 pairs of the original Trabuco Max, I was very excited and eager to try it out the second version.OK, when I got over the initial shock of the stack height, I thought I should at least try it out ( albeit on my treadmill), I was very disappointed indeed, with what seemed like a shoe that was no relative of it's 'little brother', the original shoe. It was like two separate parts: an upper glued to a supersized sole. Yes, the shoe was super soft, but it was actually very scary to run in, as heel and midfoot lock down was poor, and the toebox excessively big. I ran size UK 6.5 in the original model as the toe box was tight, but this shoe was way too big for my narrower foot. It was like trying to run on ice with poorly fitting boots. On a ... MoreHaving worked my way through 6 pairs of the original Trabuco Max, I was very excited and eager to try it out the second version.OK, when I got over the initial shock of the stack height, I thought I should at least try it out ( albeit on my treadmill), I was very disappointed indeed, with what seemed like a shoe that was no relative of it's 'little brother', the original shoe. It was like trying to run on ice with poorly fitting boots. On a plus point, the quick lace had gone, although I had hoped for a more functional quicklace rather than laces. The horrible , oversized tongue was replaced thankfully. Beyond that, I quite simply could not run confidently in the shoe, out of lack of stability and fear of rolling an ankle. Maybe on tinder dry rocky paths it may suit some, but mixed terrain and muddy soft ground especially would definitely give me problems on my ultra runs. I was so disappointed and let down that I have gone out and bought 2 pairs of the original shoes for my mixed terrain September Ultra.
I’ve been running with the original trabuco max and now with this new version for a bit. So far I really love the cushion and how comfortable it is on gravel and rooty trails!I actually thought the original trabuco max came a little smaller than other Asics shoes so this version being a bit bigger was amazing update also! I really can’t wait to take these out for a run in some high mountains soon :)
