A lighter alternative to the Nike Zoom Fly 5

I have been on a search for the replacement of my favorite shoe: Nike Zoom Fly 5. The biggest downside of that shoe was its weight. The Magic Speed 2 is an excellent alternative to that shoe. This shoe is extremely stable without it being a stability shoe. It is balanced and has the right amount of softness. It is light and extremely cruisy. It is moderately snappy. If you want to pick up the pace, it responds well. It also has a fantastic outsole grip. Heavier runners (175-200 lbs.+) would like this shoe because of how stable it is and can take advantage of the moderately snappy plate. This shoe feels like the MetaSpeed Edge+ but a firmer foam, snappy, but more stable. If you have a rolling stride, you'll like this shoe. Great if you are cadence runner.

Wreally like this shoes stability and feel of speed, there is wreally some magic in it.I have been running tempo run and strides with Magic speed 2. I allready loved first version of Magic speed and this second is also very impressive.Grip is also very good and materials of shoe sole aresame as Metaspeed Sky + but it's little more of it, so you can wreally take miles with this shoe!Shoe fit is also onpoint and my size 9.5 is perfect fit again.

Bouncy but tight

My initial thoughts while taking these on a run were that they were so bouncy, light, and responsive. I was immediately sold! But, just about a mile in, my two smallest toes on both feet went numb. I've tried other shoe laces, as well as loosening them up quite a bit, and changing up my socks, but on every run my toes are totally numb within a mile despite the shoe being lose enough for heel slippage. I haven't had that issue in any other shoe before, so I assume the toe box is too tight on this model. I have extremely narrow feet so it surprises me, but I also have very high arches and maybe that is the cause.

Carbon plates DO make me a quicker runner!
10 October 2022

These are the first shoes I've used with the carbon plates in and I was excited to see whether they really would stand up to the hype. The rigidity of the soles was quite surprising at first but this obviously part of how the plates work. However the shoes were very comfortable and I found that I was running quicker without trying .... although whether this was new shoe enthusiasm ...! May well have been! I was however quicker in the marathon at the end of my Ironman than expected in these shoes which was a nice surprise ... and it was enough of a difference to make me sure that I'd use shoes with carbon plates for my next A race too!I really rate these and I would buy them again.

Fast, light, fun

These are great neutral trainers and racers. Light and form fitting upper, easy to get good lockdown with the laces, feels like a shoe you want to go fast in. Toe box is plenty roomy and fits well. The forward propulsion from the plate and rocker is very apparent and awesome, I find these shoes to help me run downhill with less perceived effort versus shoes without a plate. It really is a funny feeling, the shoe provides a great pop when hitting those downhills hard.I've run two half marathons in these and these are perfect for that distance. You could easily run marathon distance in these as well. They are cushioned, but not mushy, and encourage you to keep the pace up.That being said I've taken these out on easy recovery days and they perform just as well as ... MoreThese are great neutral trainers and racers. No issue with slower paces feeling awkward with the plate in there.

Faster and bouncier than I expected
18 November 2022

I have a pair of the first generation Magic Speed that I wasn't head over heels with ( the soles were too rigid and not enough bouncy for my stride) . That's why I didn't have set my bar of expectation set too high for v.2. I have to say, Magic Speed 2 delivered much more than I expected. I would go as far as to say that Magic Speed could be descibed as the budget version of MetaSpeed Sky. They look like MetaSpeed and they feel like MetaSpeed. The sole is soft and bouncy, excellent for speed drills. I am coming back from injury and I use Magic Speed 2 to ease into my training routine. Best choice for a budget carbon plated shoe.

Magic an reality: a combination for fast trainers
30 October 2023

I have use them only for speed workouts. Excellent shoes, comfortable, responsive, also explosive if you keep slow and want to push to max speed suddenly. Looks smaller but fit perfectly. I will never use them to run slow, the amazing cushion only works when you go fast. The heel feels good when you are doing the workout but not during the recovery, I think is the 7 or 8 mm, flatter than more of my speedy shoes. I am sure these shoes will work for a fast 5k to a fast Half in addition to intervals. Too heavy for a marathon in my opinion. Also they are very durable, the grip keeps the same power at least the first 50 miles. Perfect for 300 miles minimum

More Magic Moments
4 March 2023

I have been running in Magic Speed 2 for a few months now and they have gotten better over time. They are comfortable, lights and fast. Great new fresh colour way. What I love about the Magic Speed 2 is that they work when I do. Meaning when I put in effort to increase my strides and run fore foot the shoes reward with the carbon plate and foam kicking in to provide a smooth, fast and responsive ride. Magic Speed 2 are my go to for Speed, effort sessions and race day.

Perfect update!
28 April 2023

I have both versions, the original Magic Speed and Magic Speed 2. Both shoes are great-looking but this version performs better, especially in longer workouts. They are extremely responsive and a little bit bouncy which makes longer speed workout easier. I think having a full plate instead of a half-plate changes the feeling a lot. I really recommend these for hard workouts and maybe for shorter (5K) races! BTW, no need to break them in.

Very light shoe but awkward-fitting in some places
24 June 2023

Overall, I do enjoy these shoes but I noticed right off the bat that my toes did not have much wiggle room and my pinky toes started to have pins and needles after a little while; I had to make sure to wiggle my toes every few minutes to reduce the uncomfortable feeling. I also noticed that my calves did not feel great and during my longer runs, I felt like my ankles had zero support, especially when making sharp, quick turns. On the plus side, these are very speedy and light shoes, ran my first 10K in them!
