The GEL-KAYANO 29 shoe creates a stable running experience and a more responsive feel underfoot. Featuring a low-profile external heel counter, this piece comfortably cradles your foot with advanced rearfoot support. This helps keep the shoe lightweight while creating a more energized rebound in each step. A LITETRUSS stability feature is placed on the midsole's inside aspect. It's designed to help keep your foot from rolling too far inward during your stride. The GEL-KAYANO 29 shoe creates a stable running experience and a more responsive feel underfoot. So it looks like I’m in the minority for now but in my humble opinion, this is the not only the best Kayano but also the best stability shoe that I’ve ever tried. And this is coming from someone who’s run in the Brooks Beast and Adrenaline, the Saucony Omni, the Hoka Arahi and the Kayano Lite. Historically, every iteration of the Gel Kayano (including the 28) were terrible for my feet. There was a plastic wedge in the mid foot that made the ride uncomfortable after a couple of miles. The Kayano Lite bucked this trend as was a great shoe but did not provide as much support as I would like. The Hoka Arahi is also a fantastic shoe in terms of support but not as much cushion as I would like. This new Kayano 29 is the best of both worlds. Great support, fantastic cushioning and is lighter than previous versions. Honestly the best stability shoe that I’ve ever run in, bar none. People are saying that it runs small now but honestly, I held it up to the Kayano 28’s in the exact same size and they were identical, This version seems to have more cushioning so perhaps that’s why people are perceiving them to be tighter. In any case, I wouldn’t change a thing.

I have been wearing Asics running shoes for many years. They are great for running and walking long distances and provide the proper support for me. I like the extra protection on the heel and ball of the foot. I have a narrow heel so no sloppiness in the heel. The shoe fits a M width, not wide like some other makes. They are well made, comfortable and have a nice selection of colors. I purchased the dusk violet/summer dune color.

I have worn ASIC gel nimbus for years. I bought this style because I don’t care for the new design on the gel nimbus. I figured it should be similar considering they both are for neutral stride and it’s ASIC so how can I go wrong? Well…I was soooo wrong. I don’t if it’s this particular pair of shoes, but the quality is not the same. They look cheap and feel cheap. I wore them to work (I’m an RN and on my feet for long hours) and my feet were killing me by the end of the shift. They def don't fit the same as the nimbus, either. I feel like they may run slightly bigger. I’m really disappointed because I’m never going to buy the new nimbus design.

Bought these for my Mom who has been suffering with sore toes as a result of developing bunions. She rants and raves over how comfortable these shoes have been! Here’s her words:I just wanted to tell you that I love my new tennis shoes that you gave me. They are the best tennis shoes I have ever had and my feet never bother me. I wish I'd had them when we were walking so much in Berlin last year and this past summer! Now I'm having a hard time - I’ve got so many other tennis shoes and I feel bad not wearing them. But every time I look at my closet I gotta wear these!
Although it is a great shoe, the feel of it seems to have changed from previous purchases. The sizing seems smaller leaving my toes to ache and heels actually burn. I've never had this problem with my shoes in over 15 years of buying Asics. I have bought 2 pairs of shoes every year for the past 15 years or so and have never had any sort of discomfort or pain as I am experiencing now. Makes me almost want to return them! This is my 5th pair of shoes I have purchased in 2024 too (ugh)
I have been wearing gel-kayanos for two decades; they are my go-to shoe. So, I don't know what happened with these shoes. I have been running in them for nearly a month and, from day one, they have been painful. I've had pain at the front of my ankle from the tongue, such that I had to move the tongue to one side and loosen the laces, which, as someone with slender feet, is uncommon for me. I've had pain at the back of my ankle and heel, and even on the bottom of my feet when simply walking in them. I'm flabbergasted because these don't feel like the gel-kayanos that I know and love. I'm honestly wondering if I got defective shoes because, in all my years of running in Asics, I've never had this happen. My gel-kayano 28s were a dream from day one. When looking for some new running shoes I discovered ASICS had the option to cater for particular running styles and I found out that the pain I had in my foot was due to being an over pronator. I decided to give these a try being top recommended for my budget and requirements. The fit is good with a firm supporting insole with noticeable additional support provided to compensate for my run style which slightly raises the position of the ball of my foot and big toe which alleviates some of the pain I have been experiencing in that area as a result. I have been using for a couple of weeks now and the overall pain when not running has lessoned too and I'm hopeful over time these may help towards reducing further this. So far impressed enough to point that I bought a ... MoreWhen looking for some new running shoes I discovered ASICS had the option to cater for particular running styles and I found out that the pain I had in my foot was due to being an over pronator. As a fell runner I don't tend to worry so much about stability out on the fells but having taken up road running again recently to boost my fitness and speed I really needed to go back to something I knew well - the ASICS Kayano. I feel so well held and ran 10 miles in them straight out of the box without issue. I had been wearing a lighter, speed pair from a different brand but was getting shin issues and so very quickly realised I just couldn't beat the stability and protection of a Kayano. If anything my times keep getting faster because I can run with confidence - thank you, ASICS!
I bought these shoes a few months ago and set them aside without trying them on. I have bought the Gel Kayanos for years, always the same size and they would fit perfectly. When I finally went to wear the new shoes I found that the fit had changed significantly and not in a good way. The new Kayano 29 model runs bigger in the toe box and longer than previous models. The side cut by the ankle is higher and rubs my foot...never a problem before. If you have purchased the Gel Kayanos in the past be aware that the 29 model does not fit the same.
Love the gel kayano range, I recently tried to experiment with brooks instead which were good but I'm glad I decided to grab another pair of these. They are so cushioned, makes my runs so much more enjoyable. I've only worn them a few times, two runs that were 9 and 10 miles and then a half marathon yesterday. I sized up half a size this time based on other reviews saying this one was a little more narrow and they are great. Highly recommend!
