This entry in Assassin's Creed shows that the Templars are not always evil, and the Assassin's are not always good. It is a very good game, but it is very similar to Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I would have liked it to have some different elements. In Black Flag I tried to complete everything. In Rogue I skipped lots of the side stuff and stuck to the main mission.

Having a ship, to customize and battle with, definitely is a game changer. Its just like AC4 Black Flag, gameplay elements and all, other than its settings. Great game
The gameplay is essentially the same as Black Flag but set in North America. Which is not a bad thing because I liked the gameplay of Black Flag a lot but there is way less grinding to upgrade your ship this time around. I really enjoyed how the game showed the world through the eyes of the Templars. For the first time in the series I realized that maybe there is no good side or bad side but just two different groups of people trying to achieve the same goal in different ways but both can be a little extreme. That is until Unity just takes the Templars back to being pure evil. But I loved how this game ties into the last two games in the franchise and then into Unity. All in all this was a solid Assassin's Creed game I hope it's not the last we see of Shay Cormac. Just finished Unity and he was no where to be seen. Don't want to spoil anything but he should I have made an appearance seeing as how he was involved in setting the wheels in motion for the next game.
Has some unexplained control buttons, which I am deducting a star for. Some of the weapons buttons are not shown in the control options. I guess Ubisoft was lazy and wanted the user to be frustrated trying to figure it out. My dual pistols could not be equipped, until I found that to regain them I needed to select key #4 on my keyboard. This is nowhere to be found in control options. Shrapnel grenades is the right brackets key also not explained anywhere. Awarded bonuses do not appear in the ship's cabin, until you reach the segment where you regain your ship. Too soon to know how many other bugs are present..
I wanted the physical copy of the remastered game. They don't offer that in the US. It looks a bit better. I don't see huge improvements or anything. Im glad Ubisoft listened to their customers and released it for Xbox One. Now if we can all complain enough to get them to reboot Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag with new graphics, more customization for Edward, and the ship the Jackdaw. Have the ability to swim underwater anywhere with more treasures under water. New locations, cities, etc.. And perhaps allow gameplay with other pirate characters in the story.
Rogue is definitely a childhood classic for me. Being able to replay it and experience it all over again for this good of a price is a definite no brainer for anyone who’s a fan of the franchise. Thank you DKOldies
When I saw the first trailer for Assassin's Creed: Rogue, i was thrilled. For once, you get to play as one of the bad guys. The idea for the game was great! But... The game was the biggest letdown you could imagine for a game. Everything i didn't like in Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag had returned. Sailing with your ship till you die of boredom, and hundreds of little islands with treasure chests you are supposed to loot if you want 100% completion. At that point, the game doesn't feel like a good way to spend your time and relax, it feels more like something you HAVE TO DO. And that is something I don't think a good game is. I mean, maybe if you did like the sailing and naval warfare with other ships, maybe this could be your game. They had improved the battle mechanics for that, although I didn't find any differences, because I was so concentrated on hating every aspect of the seafaring. The story was... decent, at most. And it ended so badly I was about to hire a hitman to kill the guy who wrote the story. (Not really, but just trying to make a point) At the time I completed the game, the completion was something between 60-70%. And I had been looting a lot of chests and doing those little side-quests that repeat themselves all the time. So, my conclusion of this, was that the story holds only 60% of the game, and the rest is just free roaming and trying to find those damned chests, while losing your sanity. The game really felt like I was playing Black Flag all over again. I mean, they didn't even change the animations for the bar fight scenes!!!
First off, this game is a companion to Assassin's Creed Unity. Developed and released at the same time, this game ends where Unity starts. Overall, the gameplay can be a little buggy, but is worth every minute. The story will keep the game moving as you understand more about the series as a whole. From returning characters like Haytham Kenway and Achilles to new Assassins and Templars, there is more than enough to keep you busy for awhile. Naval battles make a return, and are more fluid than previous games. I highly recommend giving this game a playthrough if you are a fan of the series, or are wanting to know more about the backstory to Unity.
