Do not purchase this display. I purchased 2 to use for photo/video editing. Out of the box one monitor was a significantly different color temperature than the other. I called ASUS support, and their answer was sorry. nothing we can do, return it to retailer. I did that, and had to purchase a 3rd display so I wouldn't be without one. 3rd display arrived and was a 3rd color temperature, and had issues with the OSD and power indicator light (flashing). Called ASUS support again, and their answer was Uh, we don't know why it's like that, you can send for repair. I asked for an advance replacement given the situation, and they said no, that's not something they can do. So, I'm returning all 3.

I ended up sending this back.Partly I wasnât convicted by the colour accuracy. To be fair, I did not calibrate it, but in factory calibrated sRGB mode it was visibly over saturated vs another calibrated monitor I have. The sRGB mode of this monitor also locks the brightness, which practically speaking I find quite inconvenient. (Other modes, eg AdobeRGB, did not have this limitation.) I found that small text, particularly when blue or purple, was subject to colour fringing around the edges, the kind you get from over-sharpening - but sharpening was set to 0. I purchased this monitor to use primarily with Photoshop. Prior to this I had an HD LG monitor. I was much happier with the LG. This ProArt monitor gives lousy screenshots that are dark and pixelated, and Iâve checked all of the recommended fixes. Itâs also shows fingerprints terribly. I was expecting more from a wide color gamut monitor designed for artists. The registration process and accessing a real person for customer support is challenging.
This probably says a lot: I purchased one of these, then decided to get another a month later. Why? It works well and the calibration was spot-on. It's sophisticated enough for demanding graphics work. Why only 4 stars then? The button adjustments are not nearly so workable as other screens. I particularly like my BenQ, with its handy dongle switch to instantly go from Adobe RGB/sRGB/B&W .... that is really convenient! Even so, the ASUS is an admirably serviceable monitor at a very competitive price: about 1/3 the BenQ, so I bought 2 and felt it was a great investment!

However, in researching calibration I discovered that this model doesn't have hardware calibration.So, I ordered a colorimeter off eBay and I discovered that LG makes some of the least expensive displays with hardware calibration. So, I ordered a pair of 27UQ850V displays from B&H as well.The LG displays immediately looked better our of the box. Better contrast, better colors, better matches to each other, and better matches to my MacBook Pro.I didn't receive the colorimeter until a couple of days before I had to ship these Asus units back, so I was not able to do much testing with calibrating them. But, as a quick-and-dirty test I did a simple calibration with Calibrite Profiler using a Calibrite Display Plus HL. I used User 1 profile and followed the Calibrite instructions to set the contrast, RGB, and brightness before calibration. I was rushed when I did this, and my experience is that this process is somewhat finicky, so take this result with a grain of salt. But, after calibrating, the Avg. âE was 2.6 and the Max. âE was 4. That is technically passing, but those are not very good results.For comparison, if I do hardware calibration on the LG monitors, LG's software tells me I have an Avg. âE of 1.035. For a more apples-to-apples comparison, I also ran Calibrite Profiler to do software calibration on top of the hardware calibration, and it gave me an Avg. âE of 0.5 and a Max. âE of 1.6. Those numbers are excellent.************************SummarySo, basically, the ASUS PA279CRV didn't deliver acceptable color out of the box. It doesn't support hardware calibration (which is a necessary feature for color-accurate work). And, it didn't calibrate very well in my rushed test.For a similar price, the LG offers hardware calibration, better out-of-the-box color, better contrast, and, to my eye, a better quality display. Oh, and the LG has a much better OSD and it wakes up much faster when my mac is asleep.I was able to get my mac to run both Asus monitors at 4K 60Hz through a Caldigit hub. Though, I had to change the DisplayPort Stream setting to DisplayPort 1.4 + USB 3.2. The LG monitors worked though the hub together out of the box.My recommendation would be to not bother with this product. Even if you don't have a colorimeter, I think the LG 27UQ850 looks better out of the box. And if you do have a colorimeter, or hope to have one eventually, the LG supports hardware calibration and calibrates very well.

Image quality is all I need, and this delivers in spades. Plus, they come with VESA mounting holes in the back as standard, so I was able to place them on a two-monitor VESA mounting arm and free up a bunch of space on my desk. I know the Apple display is 5K and this one is 4K, but two 4K monitors side by side get me way more resolution and work space than one 5K monitor.All in all, I heartily recommend this Asus ProArt 4K monitor to anyone looking for a high-res 27 LCD for content creation and general computing on a Mac (as long as you plug it in directly and not through a docking station).

Even changing audio volume required me to change shortcuts and access the menu each time adjustments is needed.When comparing the image quality to my EIZO it is easy to see how bad and uneven the display is. The included REC709 calibration is also significantly darker than our EIZO.I was also surprised to find this USB based monitor does NOT work with older (2019) thunderbolt MacBook Pros. So be carefull expecting USB-C to work for you. Using display port is also not possible with my 2019 MacBook Pro - so I am forced to use old 30fps HDMI. But my main concern is how horrible the UI is compared to Apple products.
