My main router is an Asus, but it did not have quite enough range to provide a strong wifi signal to the far corners of our house. I bought this second Asus router as a wifi extender. Asus has its own proprietary extender software called AIMesh. It works great - absolutely seamless in actual use. Very easy to setup. Every corner of the house now gets great signal strength using two Asus routers and AIMesh. No need to tell your many devices which router to use - they all just connect without any special instructions or routines. You can also select a software option called “Optimization” which appears to automatically analyze your network signal strengths and devices, and then adjusts the network for optimal signal strength and speed. Also, if you are not doing heavy gaming, you can use the Asus app to instead optimize your network for video streaming or web surfing - that improves performance too. Of course, gamers will prefer the other setting. Really pleased with this purchase and with the Asus app which shows your entire network and all the devices connected to it. And the programmers finally realized that most of us are not programmers - and they made this app pretty easy to use.

I've been using the Asus RT-1900AC for a few years now but wanted to extend coverage for another IP security cam attached to the garage. Signals were intermittent at best so I installed the RT-AX55 at the back of the house using Asus' AIMesh feature which works in a master/slave whereas the slave inherits all of the features of the master. Ideally, I should have used the newer router as the master and the "old" as the slave. But it was a long day of tinkering and the network is functioning 100% with a stronger signal from activity at the back of the house . . . and all the way to the garage. Good product and features!

The router was fine for the first week. I updated the firmware to the latest (3.0.0.4.386_45934) and I've had nothing but issues. TP-Link Kasa plugs and certain 2.4Ghz devices were dropping off my network. I turned off Smart Connect and separated the 2.4 and 5Ghz SSIDs. The WiFi seemed more stable. I also factory reset for good measure.Although the devices were more stable, the router would crash and reboot almost daily, killing my internet connection. Some of my Google Nest cameras now have issues uploading footage and showing live view.I'm going to downgrade the firmware, which is a very tedious process, and do some more testing. I recommend going for the RT-AX56 or higher model so you can install the custom Merlin firmware. The stock firmware is pretty ... MoreThe router was fine for the first week. I was originally using the basic modem/router i got with att uverse fiber. This was fine enough for most things. I needed more parental controls of my household electronics and was looking for a solution.glad i went with this one since it wasnt overkill and could still take full advantage of my 1000mbps from att and it had very nice features built into the app. I can now control wifi hours of my kids devices so that they arent able to play online all evening. configuring the att router/modem to be passthrough was a little complicated but i was able to figure it out. It paired easily with my asus rp ac55 extender. i have about 2200sqft and use to have trouble reaching the 2 farthest rooms but not anymore. i did have to do some manual port forwarding on this router ... Att speed test was about 500mbps, test on this one about an hour later was 700+ mbps.
I have used an ASUS router for many years. I purchased the RT-AX88U to replace my RT-N66U which served me well for over 10 years (it still works but it's processors are too slow for my current needs). Before selecting this router, I considered several others in ASUS' product line as well as that of other brands which I've had experience. One of the biggest factors that influenced my decision was their hardware reliability -- this model has gone through several hardware revisions since it's release in 2018, illustrating ASUS' commitment to improving their products. I've read many reviews that have cited premature hardware failure: these types of devices are passively cooled and without an active cooling device, they need to located where the heat can be dissipated to avoid issues. This model is designed such that I can use any generic laptop cooling tray (no specially designed fan is required) and it's CPU temp. averages ~45C when idle as compared to ~65C without active cooling. The feature set associated with this model is extensive but the following were the most appealing for my needs:- 8 wired Gigabit ports (eliminated my need for the separate switch which I required with my RT-N66U)- 2 USB 3.1 ports to attach external storage (eliminating the performance issue I had with USB 2.0)- dual WAN capabilities (allowing for fail-over to another ISP) & LAN port aggregation- being able to use the WireGuard Client & Server natively on the router; this is probably one of the biggest benefits for me on the AX-series routers. I've used OpenVPN for years but it is so CPU intensive (limiting effective throughput) and with the recent updates seems to be problematic in terms of maintaining a stable, reliable connection; WireGuard is fast and provides me with a very stable connection with no effective throughput restrictions.I couldn't be more pleased with this router and expect it'll serve me as well as my RT-N66U.[I am receiving a warranty extension from ASUS for this review.]
I purchased the router as my previous router was not functioning. I found the ASUS-RT-AX55 very easy to connect and set-up. I have great coverage in my home now. I also get great download and upload speeds. I made sure to place the router in a central location in my home. I continue to purchase ASUS products as I find them to be good quality and price fairly compared to a lot of other products on the market. I like the fact the router configuration pages are very customizable and it came with built in security software. Please note I'm receiving a warranty extension from ASUS for my feedback.
I purchased the Asus AX1800 router to use in a small biz office environment. This router has proven to be both dependable and offers fast speeds for all users in our environment. As with any router, make sure to update the firmware immediately for the latest updates and features. I setup this router entirely with the free Asus app, and the administrative features are intuitive enough for new users but offer features for advanced network control. As a side note, the difference between the AX1800 and AX1800S is the processor. This model, the AX1800 has a superior Broadcom quad core processor as compared to the dual core processor in the lower priced AX1800S. I most certainly would recommend this Asus AX1800 router to others.
I love my Asus routers. I has Linksys and Netgear before. This router replaced a 6 year old unit that started to have session drops. Operation of the AX55 has been flawless: easy to setup and fast. It just works. However, it lacks the parental control and security features my old router had. If you need to monitor kids, get an Asus with AiProtect Pro. The AiProtect Classic in the AX55 is stripped down. I added an AX68 as my primary and am using the AX55 as a mesh node so I now have strong WiFi-6 coverage all over the house.
I've gone through a lot of routers in my lifetime, and watched them become easier and easier to manage. This one ranks towards the top, with a few caveats.Pros:- Sleek, modern look.- Comes with both a mobile app and a browser-based setup page.- Includes utilities like a built-in Ookla speed test to help track down bottlenecks in your network- Plug-n-play on simpler networks- Wall- or desk- mountable- Fast!Cons:- The antennae seem fragile and are not replaceable- There doesn't seem to be a separate activity light for each port- Not all features are available through the app, and the documentation doesn't explain what can be found where. For example, I could find no place in the app to change the default IP address, and in fact MOST of the ... For example, I could find no place in the app to change the default IP address, and in fact MOST of the options in the browser for that kind of configuration aren't in the app (or aren't easy to find)- The documentation in general is lacking; I had to do a Google search to find a power-user's guide.Summary: Glad I got it, it's a great value, but I would wish for more consistency between the app and browser setup pages (and perhaps user-replaceable antennae).
Purchased this to upgrade to wifi6. It works well, but I am not completely happy with the setup webpage on this device. Probably very easy for a non-technical user to set up, but I am using this in a rather unconventional way. I am using it as a non-internet connected access point. The setup assumes you will be using the wizard, and the wizard forces you to coinnect the internat connection first. I had to call customer support because there was no obvious way to get around this that I could see. Customer support was ok, and eventually we worked out my problem. The answer was to go directly to "advanced" and bypass the setup wizard completely. That worked allowed me to configue it the way I wanted.
