I knew I'd made the right choice when I started using my new Asus Vivobook S15. This was a massive adjustment, as I had previously used a MacBook Pro 2020 with an i5 processor and 16GB RAM. Despite being the latest model then, my MacBook had many problems, including poor processing speeds, a continually running fan, and the inability to handle several browser tabs. The whole-day battery is also an amazing gift.I'm looking forward to more intriguing devices from Asus, particularly ones employing Snapdragon processors. If anybody wants a laptop that combines design, performance, and value, I highly recommend the Asus Vivobook S15.

Love the number keypad on the 16” option & screen size & quality is excellent, easy to split screen for productivity without needed a secondary screen. Battery life is great, haven’t lasted the quoted hours in duration, but I’ve also been working the laptop with multiple applications, light bright screen option, synching to iPhone & with music app streaming in the background & easily achieved 8+ hrs on battery life.Easy to setup and use multiple Microsoft accounts (I.e. personal & work).Only complaint was I had to manually find & download outlook classic to be able to import email pst file, however once sorted, ... Currently, notifications do appear when attempting to install Microsoft, Adobe, and Logitech products that don't work on Arm64 For example, I couldn't use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign with this processor. Googling did bring me links to Beta versions which run fine. These couldn't be found through the Adobe Creative Cloud app though. So it took some digging. Basically, be prepared to roll up your sleeves and do some extra work to get things to work. This laptop has amazing specs but might not be ready for a general public with limited tech background and expecting a system that just works.My HP multi-function works though when I want to save a pdf off the web, things are finicky. Even Adobe Acrobat for Arm64 is also in development. I can't save the file at all except when I choose to print to pdf. So yes, you are dealing with potentially buggy software everywhere when you get a laptop like this which is on Arm and not Intel or AMD. I did not know this until I bought it.Arm64 has its benefits though. The battery life is incredible. Many improvements over my previous ASUS laptop with an Intel processor. Keyboard doesn't get hot after extended use. No loud fan. Extremely light weight and thin design. Sound isn't as good though and OLED is a bit grainy until I up the display resolution to 150%. I still find the previous FHD laptop produced nicer pictures.The ports available on this device are amazing! I don't really need a docking station for most needs. There's one HDMI port. There's USB and USB-C and also headphone/mic ports. This is a system meant for serious work. I typically hookup 2 monitors to my laptop though for design work. So figuring out how to have dual monitors will be my challenge as I think I need to find a dock that is known to support Arm64. I don't want to be forced to reformat to factory due to yet another driver failure. That would be a nightmare as I have invested many hours at this point to load and setup the system to my liking. At this point, whenever I want to add new devices and hardware, I'm super hesitant. Due to above problems, I am forced to use my new and old laptop depending on what I want to do. I cannot completely stick to this one laptop.The backlit keyboard with the random colours will probably appeal to gamers. I find it makes trying to read the keys difficult. I still need to look at the keyboard for top row functions like contrast and brightness, or using the skinny number pad keys to the right. In the end, it made more sense for me to disable the lighting on the keyboard so the keys are more readable.Keyboard is very good. It is comfortable to type on and the placement of keys is perfect for fast typing. I avoid laptops where the enter key is oddly placed or the shift and tab key are a strange size and I can't type quickly. Or there's too much text as there's bilingual notations. This keyboard is absolutely what I am looking for.Haven't had any time to try the Co-Pilot yet. Maybe in the next month or so!

I have been using Windows on ARM for several years by way of a virtualized Windows on Arm running on my Macbook. I knew Windows on ARM was working well. Then came the Snapdragon Elite announcements and the slew of new laptops was announced.From all the brands I choose the Asus Vivobook S15 because of the combination of RAM (32GB) disk size (1TB) screen size and resolution (15.6"), battery life lasting forever (18~20 hours) and weight... it is surprisingly light and easy to hold. I know it is an extra cost, but with such a long battery life you expect this to be your primary travel companion and as such connectivity should be a top items to add in the next version.Here are two things I think need improvement:Keyboard illumination is bleeding the light from under and around the keys and it is not really easy to see the lit lettering. my Macbook does not have that issue. The other item is the screen surface is very reflective and with sun or light from certain angles you might get some glare on the screen.So, my only wish is add the WWAN component.
Coming from Macbook M1 Max, I am very impressed with this Asus Vivobook with Snapdragon chip. It is very very good value for money. My main purpose of this is for full stack development, I could run node.js very well on WSL, Docker also works. Everything works well just like on my Windows PC and even faster.Compiling code is as fast as the M1 Max mac, which is very impressive.Battery wise, it is even better than my Mac. I could handle whole day at school with ease, no need charger.The OLED screen is also a big big plus, making watching YouTube or Netflix more immersive.Full aluminium body also make the device feel more premium.It is also quite lighter at 1.4kg, barely felt it on my backpack.Okay, now let's talk about the downside:- This is not a real x86 ... The 3K OLED display looks absolutely stunning, and the 120Hz refresh rate adds to the smoothness and overall clarity. This screen ensures that no matter what you are doing or watching, it’s simply going to look amazing on this laptop. Since it’s 15.6” as well, it really hits that sweet spot of being a great display that’s noticeably bigger than any 13”, but remains more portable than comparable 17” and 18” machines. While I’ve always stuck with laptops in the 13” range for daily use, the Vivobook is the first laptop to make me reconsider this choice.The keyboard and trackpad are also very good on this laptop, with the inclusion of a 10-key set being a nice change. The keys feel great, and they are all backlit, which can be customized to your liking. The Qualcomm Snapdragon processor allows the Vivobook to process a wide range of AI-related tasks under the Copilot+ umbrella. While I think that some of these tasks still need a bit of work (trying to get the AI to spell specific words without errors takes quite a bit of prompting, patience, and perhaps luck), I overall find that these features are pretty amazing. If you’re looking for a new laptop that has the Copilot+ functionality, the Vivobook should be at the top of your list.I found that while Copilot+ features were handled easily, the overall entire user experience with this laptop is just smooth, fast, and straightforward. Windows 11 is a great operating system, and it combines perfectly with the specs and hardware in this laptop. Everything from work to entertainment; this PC is perfectly capable of doing it all with ease. The only area that I found a bit lacking was gaming, as I wouldn’t really recommend running any demanding titles on this machine. I don’t hold that against the Vivobook though, as it’s clearly not marketed as a gaming laptop. Still, it’s something to consider, if being able to play games is one of your top concerns.There are a number of other cool features packed into this device, such as a sound system designed by Harman Kardon, facial recognition for unlocking, a slide-cover for the front-facing camera, 4 USB ports (two A, two C) - along with charging that is done with a rather sleek USB-C charger, and a proximity sensor that can be used to customize how you interact with the laptop. I honestly can’t think of anything that could have been added to make this PC better, it just seems to have everything it needs to be a great laptop.As I mentioned earlier, I have been able to test a wide variety of laptops, and the ASUS Vivobook S 15 has definitely made an impression on me. This machine excels in so many areas, to the point where I truly believe it would be hard to improve upon, given how incredible it is at this price point. Asus, like most computer manufacturers, is using universal packaging. In this case, there was more packaging than what was included in the box. There were actually only two things in the box it arrived in. The system itself and the charger. If you pay close attention, in the lid of the box, there's instructions on how cut and use as a stand for tour machine to store when not in use. A folding plug and a USB-C cable that can be disconnected as it already uses this as the main charging standard.Setup.Out of the box, there were initial Asus updates to firmware, BIOS, and software. This did require the use of the power adapter to ensure the machine did not lose power or have any glitches during the updates. Once these were done, there were your standard Windows updates that it needed. The Asus updates were quick while the Windows updates…we all know about the wait times and how variable they are. The machine did manage to take the latest WinOS 11 24H2 without having any issues or being bricked. Added Webroot to the machine as the preferred anti-virus program we use in our household. Once all scans were completed, signed into my Microsoft account and immediately everything was activated from binding the machine to my account to the Office Suite converting to 2021 from what was installed with the machine. Installed the commonly used PDF viewer for use and Google Chrome with no issues as the defaults. All additional software I used every day was easily installed or had an update to utilize the ARM processor appropriately.Power.Overall, the machine is pretty reactive during use and requests to open programs. I’ve not had any issues where I had long wait times or even a freeze-up during normal use. Coming out of a sleep state is quick. Asus is holding true to the advertised time of around 18 hours use time as I can get a little over 2 days of and even more of use out of the machine before it needs a charge.Size.The size and dimensions of the machine are very nice with it coming in at just over a half-inch in thickness and not taking up a lot of baggage space as noted earlier. The weight is great and not noticeable when being carried around for a day’s travel.Design.The screen has a nice clarity to it at 3k resolutions and displays very clearly from working documents, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and even a little gaming. You do have current standards of 2x USB-C ports (charging may done from either port), 1x HDMI, 1 MicroSD card slot for adding storage or use to read cards, 2 USB 3.0 5GB ports, and 1x stereo/mic combo 3.5mm jack. It is good to see the standard-sized USB 3.0 ports as Asus understands not everyone is transitioned to USB-C and people do still utilize USB 3.0 ports. The built-in webcam is very clear and adjusts nicely to the room's lighting. There’s also the included privacy slide for when the webcam is not in use and is a nice brightly colored orange to indicate it is on; covering the lens. The machine does come with facial recognition as an option.Co-Pilot, Microsoft (MS).Integration with MS Co-pilot is done very well as Co-pilot has come a long way from the early days in its everyday uses. Uses from scheduling events to helping with reviewing documents, taking quick notes, and providing additional plug-ins to take full advantage of various machine use scenarios. The AI is becoming more and more user-friendly while learning from the user what is used most via prompts.

I also like that this has WiFi 7 built in which was “ethernet-fast” on my home WiFi 7 mesh network. Plenty of ports on this laptop as well which is great...many now only offer USB-C which would require a dongle.Battery life with this combo paces out at over 8 hours for me. I'm sure I will get much longer life if I dial it back a bit, but this isn't terrible at these settings. Most usage was web browsing, email, MS Office apps, and light YouTube watching. Testing out CoPilot has worked ok so far, but I can see this improving over time as well.In summary, I think it is a good and light laptop for home or on the go use. Certainly has more than enough power, speed, and smoothness for all the apps I have used so far. And a VERY good price as well. Recommend!
