Works OK, but the setup isn't all that easy. You have to setup via the browser and security rules make that difficult. A fully capable MacOS/Windows 10 app would be an improvement. The cloud storage sync app doesn't support multiple cores so is very slow to download files despite having three CPU core idle. Does all the typical NAS functions. The unit itself is very quiet (the drives you put in it are a different story). Overall, a solid but not polished user experience.

I was specifically looking for something with 4 cores and at least 2GB RAM (this has 4GB but I also purchased an additional 4GB to bring it to 8GB - and it was very easy to install).The set up and installation could not have been simpler and the drives 'clip' into the cradles and easily slide into the unit.If you are looking to create a RAID or use other than single drives in the unit, it pays to have them all plugged into the device when you initialize it.. If this is your first NAS then this will be a good experience getting into the nitty bitty grits these NAS has to offer. ADM is easy and intuitive to learn. Has a decent processor for plex transcoding. I have setup VMs in this NAS to load balance my servers. It runs great!I Just had to upgrade the RAM from the 4gb it came with to 8gig for the setup and tasks that I intend to run.Good NAS. Good app store and plentiful features to dig into.

Purchased this as a replacement to my older Western Digital NAS. Overall, the setup was pretty straightforward and easy. The OS is a little complicated if you're used to the more simple WD interfaces, although this is much more powerful. It has some great apps you can install for all kinds of uses. I've had zero issues since setting it up as a RAID 5.
In general, it appears to be made to look and function in a foolproof manner for the casual home user. But as you peel off the layers, you start to see that it is dangerously lacking in data preservation tools.As an example -- I moved all disks from one ASUSTOR system to another. Easiest thing to do per ASUSTOR's documentation to migrate your existing data to a larger or newer system. Except that the system did not behave like what the document said. but warned that it will wipe all existing data on the disks! Luckily, I had a full copy on an external disk I could restore from.As for NAS performance, the throughput is decent. The UI is intuitive and easy to navigate for the most part. I especially like the SSD caching function for random reads/writes (you need 2 separate SSDs for that, or one SSD for read-caching).But if you decide to buy this, you are probably better off keeping a full copy of your data elsewhere at all times. It does not provide clarity and lacks the tooling required to preserve your data as you swap disks, move them to another system or upgrade them.
Good Points: Easy to install with screwless trays. Upgrading the RAM was also painless.I imported the configuration from my AS5104T and left it alone until the disk initialisation had finished. I then copied data across and found I was getting write speeds up to 2.2Gb/s which is a good proportion of the rated 2.5Gb/s.The maximum read speed I've seen so far is a little disappointing at 1.8Gb/s.Improvement Points: The fan is very noisy above the Low setting. I've now set it to Auto and it hasn't shifted off Low speed.I prefer the older disk caddies to the new screwless ones as they seem more robust.

This may be a fine unit but until I get it to work I will not know. The Asustor NAS was delivered on August 17, 2022. It's now September 13, 2022, and I have not yet been able to achieve a fully functioning unit. It was not made clear to me at the time of purchase that you must have a good understanding of NAS/networks to set up this unit and get it to work. Asustor only provides technical support over the web through a ticket system. Response times have been days to a week, and they often just reference me to their online tutorials of which they have over 80. That's good but I did not want to take a course in NAS to get this thing to work.
I am running this NAS with two 6tb iron wolf drives in a Raid 1 config. So far so got.It was easy to set up. The things I had to learn were the different ways of creating backup schedules, mapping network drives, using some of the apps and how to use the Cloud access via the internet, but that would be similar with any other NAS.The NAS looks good, performs well, currently only serving the role of remote storage but I do have it connected to a keyboard and monitor so that I can play around with its HDMi capabilities. I have tied a few of the Asustor mobile apps to access the Nas remotely. So far so good.I like it but I don't have any previous NAS experience with other products.I pick this device to have future proof hardware (i.e. 4 bays for expansion, ...
