Audeze LCD-3 | High-Performance Planar Magnetic Headphones with Rugged Travel Case (Zebrano, Leather-Free)

In the development of the LCD-3, Audeze has made no compromises in terms of sound quality. The LCD-3 is a headphone for the highest quality demands, with unmatched bass response, finest high-frequency reproduction and, according to the manufacturer, the best mid-range ever. It makes music sound exactly like the original studio recording. All Audeze headphones are completely handmade in the Audeze workshop in California. A special alloy is used for the LOTUS diaphragm's conductive paths, delivering even more precision and less distortion. This results in a maximum left-right deviation of only +/- 0.5 dB. For the connection of the signal feed line, the headphones have mini-XLR jacks. The owner thus has the option of connecting a longer cable if necessary or can use a cable from another supplier. Also included is a rugged waterproof box for storing and transporting the LCD-3. Audeze's proprietary Fazor technology improves the control of music flow within the headphones. The result is improved phase response, extended frequency range up and down, velvety frequency response, and remarkably three-dimensional spatial reproduction. The decorative luxurious zebra wood (Zebrano) with the smooth transitions from light to dark gives the LCD-3 its own unique style. The extra soft lambskin leather ear pads and the light airy steel and leather headband make the LCD-3 comfortable to wear even during long listening sessions.

I wanted an upgrade from my Hifiman Sundaras and was originally was looking to the LCD 2 when I stumbled across the LCD 3. The sound coming from these are unlike anything I have every heard before. Every type of music I have played is better across the full sound spectrum. Compared with other headphones the sound almost feels like it is in 3D or that I am swimming in the sound. Great out of the box and as I hear they will even get better with time. While they are big and "heavy" I have not found that to be an issue after hours of listening.

These headphones are beautifully built. They are very heavy but not uncomfortable. The heavy duty case is a welcome inclusion. The sound? Well for me this is the big let down after reading 5* reviews everywhere. I was really expecting to be blown away with these and this wasn't the case. The sound was dull and muddy. The soundstage that was meant to be incredible failed to deliver. They are good headphones but at the price point in my opinion they are not worth it. Worth pointing out the service from Scan was first class .

The sale price on from Adorama on these made me break down. I'd wanted a pair since I've heard them but the price difference made me think I'd try to be content with the LCD-2.The LCD-3 has a much better and more open sound than the LCD-2. I would have missed this every time I used the LCD-2. As others have said, excellent bass. The highs are superb with no sibilance or stident sounds. It may be less detailed than some want but they aren't fatiguing like other bright phones. The midrange is excellent. Male and female vocals sound great. The soundstage could be better, sometimes imaging isn't as good as some though I've never heard any phones that image like a good two-channel system. Headphones are so convenient though it let's me enjoy music more than I could ... MoreThe sale price on from Adorama on these made me break down. The height, depth, width and placement are engaging but not open and convincing. The rest of my review is for Adorama. They were excellent! Best price I've seen (I've been hunting). Their bundle included the hard case etc. which I've seen some dealers not include. They have many options in the finish for the LCD-2. I ordered the LCD-2 in Al and shedua wood to see if I could 'settle' for the LCD-2. I kept the LCD-3 and returned the LCD-2's. Adorama was fast with the return and have a satisfied customer.Best pricing, great service and an authorized dealer, thanks Adorama!

LCD 3 is still the champion

Ok I owned other headphones before I bought the LCD 3s. I owned the Beyerdynamic T5, the Monolith 1570, the Dan Clark Aron RT, and the Audio Tecnica ath X 70 ..so I had a good selection to compare both dynamic and planar magnetic..the monolith 1570 gave it a run for its money , but the LCD 3 was more defined and wider and deeper sound stage ..def my number one pick although the Beyerdynamic T5 was real. Lise on realist sound reproduction, for example a snare drum and cymbal souls for real

My favorite Audeze, warm and lush with amazingly satifying bass
27 October 2022

Recently heard this at a show and I preferred it over all their other models, primarily because of the mids. You'll see "creamy" used a lot to describe them and that seems right. The staging was also different and to my liking compared to the others in my collection, some of which cost much more. Perhaps not as technically proficient as the 4z and 5 but costs a lot less. Ended up buying the LCD-3 a few days later. It's weighty, but comfortable. Very different on different amps, but was only bad on the TT2. The bass is also weighty, punchy, and lives up to that planar bass reputation. So if you like warm and lush with good detail you'll probably like this model. Also sounds better in the current version and is more comfortable too than even the version from 4 years ... MoreRecently heard this at a show and I preferred it over all their other models, primarily because of the mids. Ignore reviews complaining about scooped out mids. The newer pads which have been out a couple years fixed that and the frequency chart shows that clearly on mine. You can email Audeze support and they'll email you your specific headphone chart. I also bought the separate carbon fiber headband, which only cut 10grams off the weight of mine and fits differently so is actually less comfortable on my head.

Nice Cans

Upon first listen...WOW. I was wowed by the mid-range that these produce...Sweet. Turned out to be a great match with my WA2 with some nice vintage tubes. I think I'll upgrade from the stock cable to see were that will take me. HeadAmp came through with a great price and super fast shipping. Would purchase from them again.

A headphone to enjoy and sink into the music. Ingenious bass range! Possesses more punch and slam than the LCD-4. In terms of resolution it's a big leap compared to the LCD-2. The transients also increase a lot and so it's also perfect for fast metal. Furthermore it is much easier to drive than the LCD-4.The look and feel as well as the workmanship is absolutely top!

I have to admit, I was initially apprehensive about the idea of spending $2K on a Headphone. However, after reading the reviews and impressions from various websites, this is indeed a very good headphone. The level of details you get from the various instruments in a song/recording goes up significantly with this headphone. You definitely need a headphone amplifier as stated in the BH website and various sources. I went with the Audeze Deckard. I'm sure there better ones out there, but for the price and the fact that it is also made by Audeze, they are guaranteed to work well together. The only complaint I have (and wished I had found out earlier as others have noticed it too) is that they can get uncomfortable after wearing them for an extended period of time. But then again, that may be the case with ANY headphone, if you wear it for too long. I read somewhere that the headband in the newer LCD-4 (which costs about double of the LCD-3) significantly improves the comfort. Audeze sells that headband separately for $200 and it is compatible with the LCD-3. So if you also don't like the comfort of the LCD-3 and want to get the comfort of the LCD-4 (costing 4K), you can replace the headband. Overall, this an excellent headphone. Made me get back into listening to my music collection
