I also love the Bluetooth feature, and it's so awesome that it supports simultaneous inputs so that I can be playing a game on my PC and listen to music from my phone at the same time. I've also been enjoying playing my Ibanez through these through a USB audio interface and Guitar Rig and it sounds better than any amp I've owned, albeit I've only ever owned cheap amps. These speakers make me very happy and I am so glad I took the plunge. The MSRP was daunting at the time but now that I know what I know having lived with them for a year, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

They really do make a big difference in bass, midrange and treble.Also, be sure to aim the speakers towards you so the tweeters are facing you and ear level. The sound stage opens up dramatically and get an almost surround sound feel.And lastly, give them time to break in! They still sound great out of the box, but they’re probably only putting out about 60%-70% of what they can accomplish. The aramid fiber material that is used in the woofer is very stiff and needs time to really open up. I know there are people who don’t believe in the “break-in/burn-in” period, but it’s definitely a thing. Especially with higher quality speaker drivers. Just get them. Don’t wait forever like I did. You will not be disappointed! I promise!

Every other powered speakers I've used (M Audio, Creative, Klipsch) was dead after less than five years of use.* Minimal footprint: I'm using these on a small table, and the very light footprint (6" tall, 4" wide, 5" deep) is about as efficient as one can find for speakers that sound good.CONS:* Most other speaker sets in this price range are offering 3" woofers and / or 1" tweeters, along with 25W / channel RMS. AE could maybe nudge the stats upwards a bit over the years, though in truth the RMS and tweeter size are likely mere window dressing.* Bass absence felt for some music. Electronica and rap feel a bit soulless with the sub three inch woofer. A 3 or 3.5 inch driver here might give a bit more oomph. Yes, one can get a sub, but the whole appeal of the AE2 is that it's an all in one compact system. Adding a 15 pound 10" MDF cube in the corner reduces some of that convenience!* On / off and volume control still on the back. Why, AE, why? Annoying to have to reach over the back of the speaker to find these very basic functions.* No headphone jack. Having to switch port connectors on the PC to use headphones is very 2000.* Having the tweeter point at one's pecs is silly. Put little adjustable frame / feet on the speakers to angle the tweeter up towards the ears, like Bose and Klipsch do.* Related to the above, $29 for cheapie plastic slabs to angle the speakers upward adds insult to injury. Include the capability (or the part if you must) in the base package. And then for $29, the stands are really ugly. The much nicer metal ones cost $39. Kanto gives small speaker buyers more for less in this regard.Bottom Line: After researching and comparing the literal dozens of brands now offering small powered speakers in 2023, the AE 2+ still stood out for its quality and design. A few tweeks would be welcome, but these are still excellent speakers from an excellent company. Highly recommded!

Much superior to any other PC speakers I've tried, especially Bluetooth.More than enough bass even without a woofer.Included speaker wire and USB cable too short for my setup, but I already had longer cables.I could not detect any sound difference between BT or either wired connection. However, with BT connected and no audio playing, I get a very faint (almost inaudible) beep every second, rather like a timing signal. I think it's from my PC's on-board BT hardware (Dell XPS 8900). Not a problem for me as I use the USB connection.Would have liked an optional grill.I thought there would be equalizer software associated with these units for fine tuning, but not so. However, overall very satisfied. Highly recommended.

There were a lot of speakers around the $100-150 price point, but I decided to splurge on these at over $250 because the reviews were good and I figured that you get what you pay for. I have no idea whether these are better than any of the ones I didn't buy.My first take upon unboxing was that these folks care about what they're selling. The packaging was extremely well done. Each speaker came in its own individual cloth bag, and the rest of the box was very well put together. Obviously this has nothing to do with the sound quality, but when people pay so much attention to what's on the outside, chances are pretty good that they care a lot about the insides too.The physical size of these is perfect for my limited desktop. I had considered getting the larger A5 instead and after seeing these, I'm glad I didn't, they would have been much too bulky for my particular setup. The wiring setup is very easy. All inputs plug in to the left speaker and the right speaker is just a slave that connects to the right via speaker wire. The left speaker also contains all of the electronics like the Bluetooth, USB DAC, and amplifier. So it tends to run a bit warmer than the right speaker but not overly hot. They give you every cable you'll need for all the different inputs.I turned them on and started listening. My music source is Amazon Music HD. They immediately sounded fantastic, but after making this investment I decided to do a bit of research and figure out how to optimize them for the best listening.First I got equalizer software for my PC. I use the APO equalizer, with the Peace GUI. This is an amazing piece of software for the price ($0), and it lets you customize just about every aspect of your sound. Everybody has different preferences, and ears with different ages, and varying sensitivities at different frequencies, and Peace/APO lets you tweak the equalization so you can get it sounding just right for you. It's a huge improvement over the flat response that a computer gives you by default, and far more capable than the equalizer that came with my sound card.Next I tilted the speakers upwards so that they point directly at my head from where they're sitting on my desk. This made a huge difference in the mid-to-high frequencies. I ended up buying the AudioEngine DS1 speaker stands. They're custom fitted to the A2+ speakers and even though their angle is not adjustable, it's perfect for my specific layout. This brings up the point that a PC sound system is usually used by just one person, so you can position the speakers so that your head is in the perfect "sweet spot" of the sound field. Of course that is possible with any PC speakers.These speakers have a bunch of different inputs, all of which can operate simultaneously. From my desktop PC I connect them to the on-board sound card via the provided 3.5mm cable. From my laptop I connect via a dedicated USB DAC that I bought because otherwise my laptop just wasn't able to produce anything like the great sound I was getting from my desktop. I knew before I bought them that they had multiple inputs but that turned out to be an unexpectedly nice feature because I can switch seamlessly between audio from both computers, and even hear sound effects from both systems at the same time when I need to. I am only using the analog inputs. I did not try the built-in Bluetooth. I did try the built-in USB DAC, and I was unable to get it to sound as good as either of my other sources.Overall the sound from these is superb - the highs are crystal clear with zero tinniness and I can't think about any aspect of the sound that I'm unhappy with. One comment I see in a lot of the A2 reviews is that people think the bass is lacking. It's true that these don't thump you out of your seat like a dedicated subwoofer would, or even speakers with bigger drivers. But the bass they deliver is super clear. I can hear every nuance of a jazz bassline, and low drum beats with no problem at all. I personally have no issue with the bass on these, but if that ever changes they also have RCA outputs that can be used to drive a dedicated subwoofer if I feel like adding one some day.
These are my first set of real speakers. I don't consider myself an audiophile per say but I do enjoy a full soundstage. I got these to go into my office setup in a smaller spare bedroom. Straight out of the box, these sound GREAT. Honestly, not sure what others were hearing that complained. I was also pleasantly surprised by the amount of bass these output. Was it earth shattering, no, which is why I picked up a Dayton 1000 sub which pairs with these nicely for those that need more than what the speakers themselves give you. I am still playing around with this setup but as of now Im using bluetooth through my M1 Mac. I don't consider myself an audiophile per say but I do enjoy a full soundstage. I got these to go into my office setup in a smaller spare bedroom. Straight out of the box, these sound GREAT. Honestly, not sure what others were hearing that complained. I was also pleasantly surprised by the amount of bass these output. Was it earth shattering, no, which is why I picked up a Dayton 1000 sub which pairs with these nicely for those that need more than what the speakers themselves give you. I am still playing around with this setup but as of now Im using bluetooth through my M1 Mac. Connects well and stays connected even after being asleep. 1 con is that you have to physically disable the bluetooth on the Mac before you can connect your phone to the speaker. I do wish there was a more seamless way to do this. Also, these cannot hear you when trying to use Siri! I can imagine the same thing would happen with Zoom or FaceTime. Again this was my first go round with external speakers so I figured that would have been standard, but it seem like I'd need to get an additional mic (plus a camera, since I'm using a LG curved screen) and that's a lot of extra purchases/cords to maneuver around. Likely my own ignorance for not looking into that more closely but as of now that's the most disappointing thing about these speakers. Im hoping Ill come across something on the web that will tell me Im doing something wrong. Besides those 2 things, I think these are a great purchase both for the sound, size and the overall aesthetic. 4 stars
Pros: I bought these speakers to replace our dell desktop computer speakers which were only 18 months old but the main connection lead had broken pins. I decided to splash out on some better spec speakers. After checking various recommended best for 2021, these audioengine ones came out on top or near top . They are really well built and robust. Came beautifully packed in individual microfibre drawstring bags inside the box. Although only 8x4 inches, they are really quite weighty and thus stable where they stand. I got a deal with the speakers plus stands. The stands tilt the speakers upwards a bit to aid the sound quality. These quality speakers are certainly the latter. They seem to be getting better as time goes on. I know it takes a few days for speakers to settle and establish. Plus our ears get acclimatised too. I don't know how they would fare on a music sound system , but for us, they deliver the sound quality we appreciate. All genres of music sound great through them on the computer.Bass is enough for us with just the speakers. But a subwoofer can be connected should it be desired.The on off/volume button is on the back of the main speaker. We have no problem with as we adjust volume on the computer itself. Some people appear not to care for this. Overall, these speakers are just the ticket for us. A lovely satin black. Elegant design, great sound quality. Not cheap at over £200 but I consider worth it for our needs.
I wanted these speakers to be better than the speakers for which I previously owned for several years. The set up was easy enough. After getting them hooked up, the sound wasn't quite what I expected. There was a hiss and a boxy muffled sound to the A2+ Speakers. I also bought the S8 Subwoofer which also has been a lacking experience. It seems you don't get much bass out of the S8 Subwoofer when connected to A2+ Speakers unless you turn the speaker volume way up. I called audioengine support which they were excellent and quick to respond to the issues I was having with the speakers and subwoofer. They shipped new speakers to me and I sent the first pair back. I tried everything to get more bass out of the subwoofer while connected the speakers. I don't want the speakers set to a high volume all the time to get bass out of the subwoofer. Also, the Bluetooth experience wasn't that great either. When connecting my iphone or ipad to the speakers, the music was very flat and no way to adjust treble or bass. Unfortunately, I had to hook up my old speakers and subwoofer from another manufacturer. The audioengine speakers and subwoofer have been boxed up and are currently sitting in a corner. That's my experience.

The iMac speakers don’t sound terrible, but the Audioengine speakers provide a much fuller, rounder, richer and more textured sound.But what did surprise me is the difference in the soundstage. The sound from the iMac speakers seems to come from some vague location behind the monitor. But the sound from the Audioengine A2+ speakers seems to be coming from a precise location in front of my monitor.When watching a movie (Game of Thrones on BluRay DVD) it is almost uncanny how the dialog sounds like it comes from precisely where the actor is on the screen. Near sounds sound near, and far sounds sound far. No so much with the iMac speakers.Also amazing is the dynamic range (if that is the correct term). The A2+ speakers can easily reproduce whisper-quiet dialog - and also manage loud passages without making me want to turn down the volume. With the iMac speakers, if I turn it up enough to hear the quiet parts, the loud passages are painfully loud.I have not compared the Audioengine to either of my two other modest setups which have real, full-size speakers - but compared to the iMac computer speakers, the A2+ are a significant upgrade.The price was more than I wanted to pay, but by buying refurbished, the price was fair and affordable. As for the price of the metal speaker stands, that is another story.
