A compact normal-length prime designed for Canon EF-mount DSLRs, the YN 50mm f/1.8 Lens from Yongnuo pairs the classic 50mm focal length with a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture to suit working in a variety of situations. Multi-coated glass elements reduce the effects of lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast and maintained color accuracy. An AF/MF switch on the lens barrel permits quick switching between focusing methods, and the lens can focus as closely as 1.5β² to suit photographing close-up subjects. Additionally, gold-plated contacts permit working with all exposure modes as well as transferring lens information to the EXIF data. A tried-and-true lens construction with design enhancements to benefit handling, this lens is an ideal walk-around lens for everyday shooting. Prime normal-length lens designed for full-frame format Canon EF-mount DSLRs, this lens can also be used with APS-C-format DSLRs where it will provide an 80mm equivalent focal length. Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture offers increased control over depth of field and also benefits working in a variety of lighting conditions. Multi-coated glass elements increase contrast and maintain color accuracy by reducing flare and ghosting. An AF/MF switch on the lens barrel allows you to select focusing methods, with either setting allowing you to focus as closely as 1.5β² away. Seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth out-of-focus quality when working with selective focus techniques. Gold-plated electronic contacts convey EXIF data between camera and lens and also permit working M, Av, Tv, and P shooting modes.

I needed a basic 50mm lens for my Canon 5D Mark IV and did not want to spend so much on a Red Line L lens from Canon, or the other manufacturerer. I ended up trying this lens. The unit works well with portrait photograpy also does well with blurring the background. When with Canon set focus point to center and use P mode vs A mode. The lens does take time to hunt for focus if you dont set to P. To all who read this remember you are purchasing a lens under th $100 mark, you have paid for a basic lens that will perform as it was designed. The optics are fine on this unit and for what it is designed for IT WORKS PERFECTLY !!! It is worth it.

Out of the box, feels great. Certainly not cheap and plasticky. Has some weight to it. Build quality seems great. Reasonably sharp on my 1D MK II. (This is an older camera that was never designed to create razor sharp images out of the camera so other cameras will produce different images anyway) Not very noisy in operation. Hunts a bit in low light but in good light no problem at all. I bought the white one used from B&H. Came in a box and looked like new. Price was awesome. White looks the business on my 1D too. The physical design is better looking than the Canon blobby alternative or Yongnuos other 50mm option. An absolute bargain for the price. Buy it used if you can. They come up here every once in a while.

Short and Sweet....At first I was skeptical. I have been a Photographer for 35 years BUT in the last 20 years I STEPPED IT UP. I have invested in many lenses and realized I only needed half of them. I wish I knew about this lens sooner, long story short you get a LOT OF BANG FOR THE BUCK with this lens. My camera body is black and the Yongnou 50mm f/1.8 lens I bought is white. I now consider myself a professional photographer and been told a couple of times by other photographers that they LOVE the white lens on a black body. The Yongnou 50mm f/1.8 lens works really well with my Canon 80D and creates GREAT BOKEH...ENJOY

I don't shoot professionally and couldn't justify the cost of the Canon equivalent. This lens does the trick though. You might find some people saying this lens is inferior and in some cases, I would agree. However, for most general uses, the images taken with this lens are almost indistinguishable from those taken with the Canon lens. For what I do, this was the best choice for a 50mm lens.
I kind of wanted to give this 3 stars because it does not give me a lot of confidence that it is constructed to last a long time. But I gave it 4 stars because it is not an expensive product. It works as it should and it allows great light in and gives great pics. I use it a few times for Wide FOV astrophotography and it is working great! We also use it for regular photo's during the day for fun. It's a nice product for pastime picture taking and no need to worry about breaking an expensive lens. It also has a pretty good warranty from the company.
I'm pleased so far with this lens. As other reviewers, it can be fairly noisy in auto focus. I've used it mostly in 1.8-4.0 and am pleased with the results for a very inexpensive lens. I compared it to a Canon 50mm f/1.8 ll and the results were of equal quality. Some I liked the Canon lens better, others the Yongnuo were sharper. I like the 58mm filter size on the Yongnuo.
It feels like a toy, the focus rattles, but it takes sharp pictures. I had chromatic aberration at f1.8 that went away around f2-f2.5. Of course that depends on composition. This is also on crop sensor, so it's all relative.Potential deal breaker is the focus motor. It sounds like grinding sandpaper together, it's loud, and slow. Forget using this for video unless you're using off cam audio, and if you're spending money on quality audio don't be cheap and get this lens.I'd jump this up to a 4 star if Lightroom had a profile (it has one for the older 50mm but doesn't use it by default, takes a second to select it; not the end of the world) and the focus rattling doesn't give me confidence, and the focus motor is by far the jankiest I've ever experienced.
