The wait for this was short (arrived in a few days to the country) and the weight of it is beautifully balanced! We love the heavy bowl and u textured surface of the mortar and pestle. Very, very happy with our choice and look forward to a lifetime of use.
The mortar may not have the depth of its heavier sibling, but its polished surfaces are decidedly more at home in a modern kitchen. Also, a bit of overspill is no problem, as it simply is scraped clean off the polished rim. Smooth surfaces are a boon, albeit can be a bit slippery. it comes with a thick pestle that is more easier to grasp in larger hands. The heavier pestle weight relieves the effort of using the pestle, but also gets you to a paste or fine talc, much faster.
Smell like cement, cement partical coming off while grinding and damged on arrival chip off. Avanti brand is not good quality. Jami oliva mortal pestal is good one.
Unlike many Chinese products that are made of immitation rock, this is solid granite of a high quality and with great looks and price
Very impressed by the build and finish quality of this model. Solid granite with polished exterior/raw working surfaces makes for a pleasing yet functional design. The pestle feels good and balanced in the palm, and mirrors the polished/raw aesthetic of the mortar. The mortar's low profile gives it great stability on your prep surface, meaning less effort to hold in place. Satisfyingly heavy without being too hard to lift and rinse. Highly recommended and a great addition to any kitchen!
Exactly as advertised. Already used to grind dried chillies and the results were awesome.
Very sturdy and fit for heavy duty work, recommend for anyone with large amount of grinding due to weight of bowl.
