It has Salicylic Acid, derived from Wintergreen, which exfoliates hair and scalp. It's very gentle and lathers beautifully - a little bit lathers into a lot! I love the scent...Aveda calls it "Pure-Fume" - which is lavender, clary sage, Australian sandalwood, vanilla, and other plant and flower essences. What I smell is a very light, calming, clean, fresh, refreshing, and slightly sweet/citrus-y scent...it's beautiful! The scent is light enough and clean enough that I think it would be safe for people who are sensitive to fragrance. I have extremely long hair that is down to my butt, and it is naturally curly. I do suffer from hair loss and thinning hair...between extreme stress, medications, and breakage, I lose so much hair in the shower when I wash it. And, I lose tons of hair strands throughout the day. Since using the Aveda Invati Exfoliating Shampoo for the past few weeks, I have lost less hair in and out of the shower! I still lose some hair but not huge clumps like I was, which is absolutely amazing! And, my hair and scalp feel really clean...kinda like a weightless feeling - which I love! My hair doesn't feel dry at all, even though this is an exfoliating Shampoo. The Invati Exfoliating Shampoo did not seem to affect my professional hair color, even though the Shampoo has Salicylic Acid (which can strip hair color). I received a Mini Size of the Invati Exfoliating Shampoo and all of the other Invati products...I'd love to see what this Shampoo and the entire Invati Collection can do longterm! I'm so happy that I'm not losing a ton of hair anymore! The shampoo is light and easy to use. It really exfoliated my scalp and hair and acted like a clarifying shampoo. It did not dry out my hair like other options, which I really liked! I don't think I have used it enough to be able to say that it is or is not making a difference in the thinness or hair loss that I experience, but I do like this shampoo, and I would buy it in the future.

The sample lasted me for about a week and I only used Aveda Invati haircare products so my other haircare products wouldn't interfere with seeing results. After about a week and a half I do notice that I am seeing a lot less hair in my hair brush, but the sample did not last long enough to see if I have any new hair growth. I wish the scent wasn't so medicinal and masculine smelling. I felt like I was borrowing my husband's shampoo and it really made me feel self conscious in public about not smelling good. I was honestly relieved when the samples ran out so I could return to using my own shampoo and hair products. I have used a lot of different products for hair thinning and the only thing I missed from this line is the ultra minty tingle I get from others I have used. I like how this is lightweight but hydrating without making my hair feel heavy. I fine curly/wavy hair and find a lot of leave in treatments can really weigh my hair down. The scent is lovely. Earthy and spa-like I am unsure if I see any real difference in hair growth/loss as I was given a trial size bottle but I do enjoy it nonetheless.
