Perfect classic staple for any wardrobe. This will last a lifetime with care and love. The beauty of a Barbour is that they get better with age and never date. The fit is a little on the small size so size up if you like to wear thicker jumpers underneath. The colour is great as it goes well with jeans and the lining fabric is an attractive tartan. You really can't go wrong with this jacket choice. Timeless and ageless classic fashion with practicality

I have always been a fan of Barbour products and have purchased in the past, namely a 3/4 walking style olive jacket. I saw this navy jacket on a detective series on tv and admired the style and colour after wearing the olive jacket for years. I decided I wanted one. I'm so glad I did, it hasn't been off my back this May/June in such unseasonal weather. It fits perfectly and I keep stylish and dry. I wear my Barbour trilby style hat with it complimenting the look perfectly during the rain. I'm so glad I chose this Barbour jacket. Love the deep navy colour, I'll wear this forever. Not one disappointing moment in the purchase. This is my third Barbour. I have an Olive 3/4 jacket and a black insulated with hood 3/4 , for freezing winter wear. In the end I chose the olive green with the classic lining which is just stunning. I have one very similar in the green which I wore in the 80s when I was a student but it is just too big for me (I think that was the fashion then!) It brings me so many happy memories that despite it being too big for me, I won't even allow my husband to wear it or even give it away to someone. So I decided to purchase another olive green in a better size. Weird!....I know! but I'm hooked on Barbour....the smell, the quality, the lining, that inner pocket, the sturdiness and quality. Makes me wish I was younger so that I could look forward to many more years of wearing it! I went up one size from 10 to 12 which allows me to wear thicker jumpers underneath. I love it!

I would give the jacket 5 stars, but the collar was not the mustard brown (rustic color) shown in the picture; it was dark brown instead. I was disappointed, but I am keeping the jacket.Size-wise, it is true to size. I am 5’11’’ and usually wear a size 4. I have this jacket in two colors now, one in size 4 and one in size 6. I ordered the larger size to wear a warmer vest underneath, making it my winter jacket. Honestly, the size 6 doesn’t feel much larger. The sleeves are a bit short, but I am considering extensions after the season.
I'd never worn the rain jacket I owned because I hate the feel of synthetic fabrics and the lack of breathability. Anticipating a spate of rainstorms, I ordered the Beadnell with rush shipping. The moment I put it on, I was hooked. The jacket is 100% cotton, including the lining, and the side pockets for hands are lined in super soft moleskin. It's breathable, lightweight, and not at all stiff. Bark is a great earth tone, and I like that it's not as dark as the other waxed cotton colors. I'd read variable reviews on sizing, so I took the liberty of ordering two sizes, and I'm glad I did. British sizing runs small, and I love to layer, so I chose size 16, which gives me room for a shirt, a sweater, and another piece, if I need it. I purchased the waxed jacket based on my husband’s excellent experience with his waxed Barbour jacket that he bought about 5 years ago. I sought a jacket that can serve as leather substitute but with characteristics of a leather jacket: impenetrable to wind and resistant to rain, with a sharp style, something that can last “forever” and ages well. My husband’s jacket meets all of those criteria, so I felt confident Beadnell jacket will serve me well as well. So far I tested it in some nasty winds and moderate rain and the jacket passed the tests well. I chose Beadnell over the classic because it is more shapely and modeled to the figure and the waist. I definitely love the raglan sleeves. I followed other reviewers’ recommendation to buy a size larger. I wear Barbour vest size 4, and I bought the waxed jacket in size 6. It fits perfectly and leaves room for a sweater or a thick vest without looking like a sack. I like the black and the lining with purple overtones!
If you’ve owned a Barbour in the past, you’re going to want to skip this whole disappointing experience. I ordered this particular style of jacket because I under the impression it was still one of the few that are made in England. But no, it was made in Moldova, It also doesn’t have the same heft as my original jacket and the sleeves have a crappy synthetic lining that makes you sweat immediately unlike the old lining that was the Barbour tartan all the way through. Really too bad, and obviously returning. Wishing I had the foresight twenty years ago to buy my old one with a more oversized fit but even fitted it’s light years better than this pathetic new version.
I bought the 2020 version of this excellent waxed jacket when I lived in Seattle. I also got the optional hood, which helped in that climate. Then the pandemic hit, I moved to a much drier climate, and hung the coat in my closet. Last year I was organizing the closet and discovered that because of the warmth of the room, the paint on the closet wall, where the sleeve was resting against it, is all now discolored from wax melting off the sleeve and onto the paint! There is a big sleeve-shaped blotch on the wall of my closet. Then I did something dumb to get it away from the paint. I boxed it up with other clothes that didn't fit me, but were too good to get rid of. And...yes...because of the warmth of the closet, now all those other clothes have wax on them. They are all now unusable because the wax won't launder out (I tried). The Barbour coat is probably still viable, but because it rarely rains in Virginia, there's no need to bother testing it. It's now in a box all by itself, waiting until it's needed, or until I discover a worthy recipient in a rainy climate. So: it was a great jacket when I needed it - overkill for anywhere but the PNW, maybe - but be careful where you store it because the wax certainly will soften and spread to anything it's touching. Also note that when I got it, I was a size 10, and got the size 12, and it was great. Now I'm too big to wear a size 12, which is another reason it took me so long to discover the melting situation.
I purchased the Barbour Beadnell with the Fleece Betty Liner vest for fall / winter / spring use. I loved both and was truly torn about the Beadnell but ultimately returned it because I had also purchased the Barbour Classic Defence Jacket for comparison and the Classic Defence won out, due to style and having a bit more of a form-fitting look. If I could afford it, I would definitely keep both, with the Beadnell to use as the more casual jacket. I did truly love it, and would recommend you purchase this high quality jacket if you’re interested and considering it. One thing I’ll add is that, based on the reviews, I purchased one size up. I’m normally a medium so I first bought a large and it was too large through the torso from front to back. I’m normally a medium so I first bought a large and it was too large through the torso from front to back. I repurchased it in the medium and it fit me very well, even with the Betty vest layered underneath. On the other hand, I agree with the reviewers who say that the sleeves are too short to enjoy the rolled back cuff showing the tartan lining. If I’d kept the jacket, I would only have been able to wear it with the cuffs fully down.
Beautiful jacket, but extremely unhappy with fit. I sized up one size as recommended. The body fits perfect, however the shoulders and arms are restrictive. You cannot reach forward without the jacket pulling. The shoulders feel tight when letting the arms hang loose. There is no room for a sweater at all. I am 5'7" with a thinner build. I do work out but you cannot call me muscular. For this amount of money a jacket should fit to specified measurements. I went up one size and it still did not fit as described above. Going up another size would lead to the body being too big, so I am returning this. Huge dissapointment. Not Orvis's design, so no complaint against the company!
