Connect your laptop to the system with a cat5 cable for a connection that can't be interfered with in high RF rooms. Use your tablet or phone to adjust room mix from out in the room as needed If you choose to record use a hard drive not a jump drive as jump drives have no buffering system and files are saved in WAV format (large files). This one has it all:- Customizable effects, including compressor and reverb for home karaoke as well as recording.- Snapshot feature to save all the settings so that my wife (who doesn't know much and audio and configuration) can start singing/recording on her own easily.- Good and quiet enough preamp for recoding. I was sold after seeing the Behringer XR-12 in a local music shop here in Central Texas. I was wanting something that would accommodate backing tracks consisting of drums and orchestra (symphonic death metal...) We have been running direct from a DAW/Interface into a small mixer.-to-PA..With this, we were able to stop that. It is small and portable, easily mounts into my rack unit, and has 3 different options for connecting a computer, tablet or your PHONE!!! This technology is fairly new to me, so the ability to control a full mix, as well as individual aux-outs/in-ear mixes blew me away (each person receiving a bus mix can control their own mix with their phone or tablet!!!!)...and that was just the tip...the ability to add FX to individual channels was absolutely ... MoreI was sold after seeing the Behringer XR-12 in a local music shop here in Central Texas. Our practices get LOUD! 2 guitars running 100w each, mixed with a 300w bass stack in a 19'x13' room with PA speakers is DEAFENING! This mixer has allowed us to turn it down a bit and really focus on sound, rather than fighting for air. We haven't used it live yet, but I have ZERO doubts that this will perform to any and all standards. Because of our backing tracks, we would normally have to rely on a PC or MP3/WAV player to take up 2 extra channels (and it is still probably a good idea to have this as a backup..), but the on-board USB player/recorder is stunning. We bounce our mixes to a 16-bit, 44.1khz WAV mix, on a thumb-drive it goes, and into the mixer - BAM...that's it! Playback is controlled via PC/Tablet/Phone, and if you take the time to set up a nice set w/ music/sound-FX in between songs for tuning purposes, etc., this thing will eliminate the need to keep running back and forth and hitting play (practice makes perfect!). I LOVE this mixer, and would replace it if it broke - I don't foresee that happening - Behringer sometimes gets a bad rap, and I have no clue why! They are a great company! Generally speaking, this is a great product, especially for the price. Any complaints I have about it are minor:- Headphone volume blocked by line 17/18 input cables- No direct-to-USB record is irritating as sometimes you don't want to use a PC to do the recording- WiFi (I think mainly due to in-built aerial) is awful- Ability to mute main mix channels without affecting aux mixes would be good- I'd prefer the power switch on the front and (likely more divisive) the power input on the rearOverall, I'm very happy with the XR18 and none of these issues are causing me significant issues.
If space is often a struggle at your gigs this is a great solution, it’s got a very small footprint for the amount of inputs and it’s packed full of features. I often don’t have the option to have my mixer front of house but with this I can set it up neatly out of the way and mix freely from anywhere in the room with the iOS software, which seems easy enough for a novice to navigate but is also packed with features and options for the more experienced of us too. The software has been very responsive so far with minimal lag and the WiFi range is quite good, though for larger spaces with lots of WiFi traffic I’ll be using a separate router just to be safe anyway. It’s lightweight but still feels rugged and well built enough to deal with life on the road and regular ... MoreIf space is often a struggle at your gigs this is a great solution, it’s got a very small footprint for the amount of inputs and it’s packed full of features. I’ll be using the X Touch controller with it too for certain applications and that offers lots of room for expansion and can be hard wired to the X18 via an Ethernet cable so it doesn’t have to rely on WiFi as a fall back option. The only negative I have for it so far is that I’d like to see the option of having rubber feet to help stop it sliding on a flat surface. (Not that I’ve had this problem yet) but this is a mod you could easily do yourself if you’re not squeamish with a drill, or you could always glue some on for a less permanent option. All in all, if you’re looking to dip a toe in to the wireless mixing world you can’t really go wrong with one of these.
I purchased the XR12 last July after waiting 5 months (!) for the item to be shipped. I believe I was one of the first users of this particular version of the Behringer digital mixer line in the US. I use the mixer for my rock band (mostly for vocals), and it has resulted in improved sound for us, primarily because it has per-channel parametric EQ and compression. Along with its compact size and wireless remote control, it is really an excellent choice for us.I am only rating the product a 3 because of the poor documentation and app support. The product comes with no user documentation at all other than some information regarding I/O and basic wireless setup. The product comes with no user documentation at all other than some information regarding I/O and basic wireless setup. Of course, you cannot use the product without additional software and you cannot use the software without documentation. I had to create an account on the Behringer website and ask questions on a forum to find out that the only software documentation was a Behringer web site wiki (meaning you cannot download a local copy). Even then, the documentation is minimal and only describes what the controls do, not why you would use them. There is no documentation for effects. I spent hours with a signal source and speakers, tediously tracking the signal paths in the mixer in order to compensate for the lack of support. The terms used for different controls and buses changes from app to app and are not common. Finally, I only recently learned that the iPad app is not fully functional and only allows control of a small subset of the mixer options. Sure would have been nice if Behringer would have made that clear in the documentation, but then, they would have had to provide some.I have used many, many products over my lifetime and I have to say that the XR12 is one of the most poorly document products I have ever used. The only way to properly use the product is to experiment with it. If you are up for that, then it can do some amazing things for the price.
I'm professional solo artist with about 200-220 shows a year. I've used the X-Air at every single gig with no issues. I use an iPad for odd requests so having the mixer app open simultaneously is super easy. My rig doesn't change much so I bribed a sound engineer friend with Jameson to EQ my setup during a set. I saved his settings (compression, eq, effects, etc) as a baseline so that at every gig I have little to no changes to sound great. The only downside is the built-in wifi is garbage. I plug in a cheap external router and then no worries. I definitely suggest buying the Gator carrying case for protection. If it's worth gigging with, it's worth casing. The 4 AUX outs are great. In band situations I use one AUX for a subwoofer line and still have 3 different monitor mixes that each musician can control from an app on their phone. "You want more you? Do more you."At this price point it's a no-brainer. Save each venue as a separate, recallable scene. Was skeptical about the Behringer name before I bought this 3 years ago, as a B-stock no less, but now a full fledged cheerleader.
We use this as the heart/brains of our live PA setup. Coupled with 2 active 15's and 4 active 10's this unit delivers a lot of versatility and GREAT sound. With no knobs or faders to worry about we can hide it practically anywhere we need to because you dont need a space for a soundguy around it. I hand off the tablet to a buddy who sits inconspicuously somewhere and sets up a good sounding mix for that particular venue, then we save the snapshot and never touch it again. New venue? Repeat! Setup and soundchecks are easy as pie, literally just plug everything in and walk away. Its FX are great and useful, of course some are a bit.....obscure, lol but there regardless. Routing options are extensive. The documentation is rather basic, more or less a quickstart guide. ... MoreWe use this as the heart/brains of our live PA setup. If youre new to digital mixers as i was you may find its capabilities confusing at first, but Behringer has a series of videos on youtube that show you how to get the most out of it, id highly recommend watching those as well. For wireless control youll need a tablet or smartphone running the XAir app (free on google play store) and the XAir program for PC is also excellent, though markedly different from the Android app eg. its GUI is different and requires a bit of relearning if youve gotten used to the phone/tablet version. I cant comment on its use with Apple products as I dont own any. Bottom line, the XAir series is good quality, good sound, powerful features, and in my case, changed EVERYTHING about how approach live sound, and i liked its concept so much i bought its sibling the X18 Desktop Mixer for studio use. Couple this unit with 2 (or more!) active spkrs and your live sound rig just got dropkicked into the 21st century.
This is a really hard review to write! When I first got the unit I had no difficulty downloading the software and updates. The first, and only, gig I used it on the PA never sounded so good. Learning the software was a non-issue for me as I am a licensed Pro Tools HD engineer, just a matter of learning the navigation. The functions and effect library are impressive! And this is where all the good stuff ends. I decided to use it at rehearsal, now the trouble starts. First, it would not save scenes, the entire system would freeze and I would have to do a hard reboot. I contacted Behringer, they suggested a hard system reboot, hold the reset for 10 seconds, now it failed to connect at all. I contacted Behringer, they suggested a hard system reboot, hold the reset for 10 seconds, now it failed to connect at all. I tried to do my own troubleshooting thinking it may be my Winbook 10.1 running Windows 8. So I downloaded the software to my old Windows 7 laptop, no go. I downloaded the software to my 8" tablet running Windows 10, same story. Behringer suggested it could be a faulty unit. Contacted Musicians Friend, they sent me a replacement. Started fresh with the Windows 10 tablet, fresh downloads, made the connection now the system would freeze when I tried to update firmware, another hard reboot, no go. Musicians Freind sent me a third unit, same deal all over again.. Went back to an analog board which Musicians friend sent as a replacement. A little research found the original software was for Android, then Mac. I think I read that the Windows software was a third party write. I'm not sure but after all that wasted time and effort I think I'll stay with real wires and knobs! all those bells and whistles are great, but worthless if it doesn't work!!PS I have used the Mackie, Mac system in the past but I don't have that kind of budget.. Besides, working with computer's the one thing I know after 30 years they will crash eventually!!!
Good design for small venue or event mixer. Really wish Behringer would integrate with larger X32/M32 consoles! I agree with one of the prior reviewers and believe the product deserves one less star because of some quirks and limitations. Here's our pros (+) and cons (-) list. Analog stage boxes can be drop kicked and survive, the X-air XR12, not so much! However with a bit of care and insuring you aren't competing on a busy WiFi channel, the remote control is very well done. The factory refurbished XR12s are hard to beat for their value!
