The off-road world is a dirty, tough place. Chunks of rock and dirt mean business when launched by roosting tires, and even when it's muddy, hitting the ground is always hard. The MX-9 Mips packs all these features into one helmet, delivering exceptional value and pro-caliber performance.

5 Star/ I've only owned Bell Helmets for the last 30 years. Usually only buy the "Moto" best series, but Bell was bought out long ago. But still. Bought a Dual Sport Bike and this was a natural go to. Glad I got it. I had my prescription Sunglasses on per questions answered here. Fit is perfect, just learned about MIPS, which my 2019 MX-9 Doesn't have. The visor and drop down shield is wicked cool. Didn't think I'd need it, but used it today and saved by eyes from a big old bug that slammed me at 50 MPH. Nice! Get it.

I've been riding for over 40 years and had multiple helmets. Currently I have a AGV modular, Sidici Modular, and the Bell MX-9 Adventure. I have a long oval shaped head, but very few manufacturers make helmets for long oval heads. This helmet fits me extremely well. It's true to size (unlike the Sidici that runs two sizes too small). The ventilation is excellent. I also got it with the Photochromatic Protint Shield, which I like very much. It's not perfect, but does what I want it to do. It could be a little darker. Also, when you have the shield up in the sun there are light and dark areas in the shape of the bill. Last week I road with a group of eight in very dry conditions on over 100 miles of gravel and dirt roads. My only complaint is the the wind and road noise, but for the price it's worth it. I would absolutely buy this helmet again. I haven't tried it with goggles, but that's next and I'll try to remember to update my review.

Chin vent broke on first use. Contacted bell and they said they would explore my options and that went nowhere. I just leave the vent open. Just be super gentle actuating the chin vent externally. Transitioning (tinting) shield adjusts in a few minutes. Creates weird dark areas when flipped up?. I open my shield when I'm below 30 mph?. The pattern from gaps in visor. Airflow is good. Head turns at speed don't expose you to extraordinary head wobble. This helmet is a solid B-grade. I bought XL and my head measured 61cm. I have owned Arai helmets in the past. I feel like I have more room for my ears with the bell helmet. I like how there are visors/brims? With color variations available.

helmet fits good. i wear a large and the large fits nice. It feels light. not carbon fiber light. but it does feel lighter than my old Arai VX-Pro.The visor.it attaches on the sides only. nothing in the middle. and it moves up and down too easy. i was riding in winding conditions last weekend. ( my first ride with the helmet.) and the visor was blowing all the way up. i move it back down where i want it and over time the thumb screws were loosening.So. I duct taped it in place.nice helmet for a very good price. just make sure and order some duct tape in the color you want, cause you will probably need it for the visor.
I bought this helmet because I wanted my next helmet to have MIPS, the price was right, and I thought Ryan F9's recommendation to try an MX lid for commuting was a good idea. I'd say this helmet is my new go-to for riding in town most of the time now.PROS: super comfy IMO, like the liner material, easy to get on and off, lightweight, works well with my glasses (tho the arms are pretty thin on them). I also really like the looks of the Grey/HiViz Offset colourway I bought, and with the visor on it is pretty visible in traffic without being a yellow gumball. The airflow is fantastic; feels nearly like wearing a 3/4. The visor can be adjusted easily while riding by smushing it up or down, and I didn't find it pulled my head around when shoulder-checking at any kind ... MoreI bought this helmet because I wanted my next helmet to have MIPS, the price was right, and I thought Ryan F9's recommendation to try an MX lid for commuting was a good idea. The airflow is fantastic; feels nearly like wearing a 3/4. The visor can be adjusted easily while riding by smushing it up or down, and I didn't find it pulled my head around when shoulder-checking at any kind of speed you would do in the City.CONS: Just like Ryan said, it's pretty dang loud without earplugs, and your face will get wet in the rain (duh). The shell is also bigger than my other helmet (HJC IS-17) despite the head size being identical, so it is a tad more bobble-headed looking. Taking the visor on and off feels fiddly and a bit cheap, but not unreasonably so considering how cheap the helmet is to buy.FIT: I have a 58cm intermediate oval, got a Medium, and it fits perfect. As mentioned, I can put my glasses on wearing the helmet with no problem. I bought a pair of 100% Accuri 2 goggles to use with the helmet, and they fit the shape of the eyeport perfectly - only small gap is below the goggles where the chin bar juts out.
This helmet has saved my melon a few times off road. Overall, I think the helmet is a good starter helmet. But now that I've been riding longer on/off-road trips in the cold and rain, I have a few critiques. First off, the helmet is loud. There is a lot of wind noise for sure. Secondly, no closable vents makes this uncomfortable in the cold and rain. Nothing a good hood or neck tube can't fix though. I love the transition lens visor I got with it, but sometimes it doesn't get dark enough on really bright days. Overall, for the price, this is a solid performing helmet but with some compromises.
This is my first dual sport helmet and it was worth the purchase. I traded out the clear lenses for some dark smoke. I also purchased the cold weather kit from Bell's website for the cold Appalachian mornings. The helmet is comfortable and beats any motor cross helmet on the highway. Very breathable helmet as well. And yes, you can run goggles perfectly fine. This helmet's visor can be removed as well so you can run it as a sport bike helmet which is sick
I got this helmet because of all the good video reviews of it, and I have to say, it immediately became my favorite helmet.I have an HJC C91, a Shoei GT Air-3 (got from Europe), an LS2 Blaze and this Bell MX-9 beat them all in all categories.I mean, the Bell has great ventilation, it is comfortable (and true to size), my cardo Freecom X4 2nd helmet kit, fit right in there with the built-in speaker recessed pockets and it is not heavy at all. What's not to like, not to mention that it looks very good.Overall, I am mad at myself for going with more expensive options (especially the Shoei that I hate, before getting this best in class for bang for the buck.
Bought this at the beginning of this season for off road single track and enduro riding. Unfortunately had a pretty bad mix up with a tree. I picked a fight with a Maple tree on the trail at about 40-50km/per Hour and the tree won. I was knocked out on the trail for about 25-35sec (from what my riding buddies told me), however I did NOT suffer any concussion symptoms after the crash , barely had a sore neck and some minor bruising on my face. I will be buying another to replace this one that saved me. (Remember if you crash once , replace your helmet) I cannot recommend this helmet enough to anyone and everyone. The transition visor is amazing as-well, and yes you can ride it with goggles comfortably. You get every single penny worth with this helmet for ... MoreBought this at the beginning of this season for off road single track and enduro riding. Please note: I use this helmet on a watercraft so my rating reflects specifically that type of use.High standard for fit and finish. Bell doesn't put their name on trash, even if it's not a flagship model. The graphics are okayish. I didn't want anything boring but didn't want super busy or flashy either and I found what I was looking for.The visor is flexible which I'm not used to in MX helmets. It's almost rubbery like those black and yellow sunglasses from the 80s. I don't know if this is good or bad. It will not hold it's adjustment under bouncy riding or being submerged at speed, but no helmet does that, if the visor even survives. This visor has survived a number of good dunkings, I'll give it that. The adjustment lets it go up suuuper high beyond field ... MorePlease note: I use this helmet on a watercraft so my rating reflects specifically that type of use.High standard for fit and finish. I wear a Med and I'm guessing it's the same outer shell as the XL. This also makes it heavy, especially when all that foam is soaked with water. My neck KILLS for days after a couple hours in this helmet. I don't have any off-road toys but the weight of this helmet dry is just fine, and would probably be fine on a dirbike or ATV. It's big enough that I noticed the extra girth, so maybe don't use it in a SXS or race car/truck, and for water it's way too heavy.
