A small capable Benchmade

Being a fan of fixed blades, I bought this knife to use for EDC as well as for a easily packable option for hunting/skinning. It is small and unobtrusive on the belt while still being big enough to be useful. Unlike some other Benchmade leather sheaths, this one seems durable enough. The handle scales are a little thinner than what I was hoping for but supportive enough for a decent grip for most tasks you'd tackle with a knife of this size. The S30v steel is a good one, and like my other S30v Benchmades came SHARP from the factory. You'll spend a bit more time on a whetstone re-establishing a fine edge than you will with other steels, but it takes a lot of use before you need to go that far. As far as EDC this knife is great for all the tasks I normally encounter on my day-to-day. For hunting use, the relatively deep and blunt profile may not be ideal for more delicate work on fowl & small game, but i expect it will un-zip a whitetail hide pretty effortlessly. With any luck i shall find out this coming fall. A good versatile little knife overall. American made is worth the extra cost, and the quality and performance vs a 20 dollar blister-pack foreign blade is easy to see.

We purchased this knife at our local store between 6-8 years ago (but can't remember exactly) and I wanted to share how well it has held up! It has gone on EVERY overnight backpacking trip we have done, including 2 weeklong ventures, and the blade has needed very minimal sharpening even after being a workhorse throughout adventures. Look at the sheath! The patina is so beautiful. If you are on the fence about getting it, I'd say go for it!

Great little hunting knife.

Great knife. This is my second Benchmade knife. Attention to details is superb. Sharp as a razor blade out of the box. The plastic blade guard / sheath is excellent but no belt attachment. So I made my own. Now it can also be carried on my belt. Knife is pricey, but you get what you pay for. No regrets.

Hunt series EDC in S90V. Get One !!

The nearly 3" S90V blade is perfect for its purpose. No prying, just slicing (skinning). The size and weight are just a perfect fit for me. It has jumping on the forward spine near the tip for precision work and is spot on, not too "bites" and not too smooth. The blade stock is a perfect thickness for this steel and keeps the weight way low. The design aesthetics overall is really nice as well. My only complaint is this thermoplastic sheath was done very poorly. For the price and more importantly, to respect the very high grade S90V steel, the sheath shout be tight and without any loose rattling, which this one has. It's plan B for a sheath now.If not for the sheaths flaw, I'd give it a perfect score. But I am very pleased overall. Knife good, sheath not as good

Benchmade is always going to provide a quality blade but I can’t say the same for the sheath design. Out of the box the knife is razor sharp without any defects and has great ergonomics for M/L hand size. The sheath gets sliced almost every time because it’s leather, unless you want to be very meticulous and take you time. Bought a custom Kydex sheath to replace the leather one.

One of the best kept secrets in hunting knives
17 January 2023

I think I passed over this knife a few times in looking for an ideal fixed blade knife. This was likely because of the size being considerably smaller than most in this category. That all changed when I had the chance to handle one and the feel of it in the hand and the deep belly drop point blade felt so utilitarian and I suspected I would really like to use it on either deer or elk that I bought one. Fast forward a few years later and I have used this knife on more deer and elk of my own and friends than I have kept track of. It's the best kept secret in hunting knives because the feel, grip and the effectiveness of the blade for skinning, deboning, removing large areas of meat like an elk hind quarter or a small part like a tenderloin...it doesn't matter, this ... MoreI think I passed over this knife a few times in looking for an ideal fixed blade knife. The blade remains sharp much longer than I anticipated. I once field dressed and caped an entire deer with this knife without sharpening. Super solid!

Probably the most perfect EDC fixed blade.

I got this knife not too long ago and have been very impressed and satisfied with it. Was extremely sharp right out of the box and holding the edge beautifully. Fits nicely in the hand, nice gimping on top of the blade. And I personally really like the look of the handle. I've usually always carried a folding knife in my pocket, but seen this in the store and really liked it. I've seen a lot of comments with the only negative being the sheath, not having any way to attach to your belt or pants. I actually like that they leave it "naked" and let you attach things how you want them. For only a few dollars you can get any attachment to screw onto the sheath, being able to wear the knife however you'd like. Hasn't bothered me at all while sitting and the blade is easy to pull out or put away.) Over all, id highly recommend the knife. It's comfy on the hip, in the hand, has a very sharp and durable blade, can configure the sheath however you'd like and it looks great. Nice job BenchMade. Look forward to using this for years to come.

Risky investment

This is a good knife (as most Benchmades are) but be careful, I just lost mine when it slipped loose of the kydex-like sheath. There is no clip to hold it in and relies entirely on non-adjustable compression and is why I rated it a 1 (a knife is no good if it's gone). Mine came out in a wilderness area and I was without a knife for a few days (I should have carried an extra but folders get lost to easily too). For me, it's not worth the risk to buy this type of Benchmade system again, especially if they slip loose of the sheath unpredictably. I used mine for backpacking and as a primary first aid kit knife and wore it on my pack. I think the compression sheath loosened over the course of the year I had it....and I used it a lot so that may have done it. Beautiful Knife, quality construction. Have not used it yet for it's intended purpose but plan to for dressing deer. The knife is small but perfect for precision cuts. Fantastic edge so far. The sheath is just ok. Probably not the best for wearing on person while hiking but inside a pack will be just fine.

Surprisingly outstanding

At first I was disappointed at the size of this knife. Its small for a hunting knife. We butchered a pig yesterday with this knife and my opinion quickly changed. If you hold the knife with your index finger on the blade as it was designed it fits your had nicely. The size allowed for very good blade control. I skinned the hog in half the time it took for the previous pig we did just a couple of weeks ago. Bench made knows what they are doing. Now that I have used it, I would definitely purchase it again.
