Bought this online with option to deliver to store (Hanley). Projector arrived promptly and as ever the staff at RS were great (as expected). Iv had a W1070 for about 7 years now in the main room and fancied a gaming projector in the study - given the quality of my 1070, I had no hesitation in buying the well reviewed 585 - set up was a doddle and iv got an 80 inch screen from about 8.5 feet throw. What I have noticed is the brightness of this compared to the W1070 - wow - I'm on lamp save mode (apparently can give 14000 lamp life hours) and its still plenty bright enough in the day with the blinds closed - iv hopefully attached two images showing a bright day with blinds closed and open (and one with normal lamp mode with blind open) Gaming is superb and fan noise ... MoreBought this online with option to deliver to store (Hanley). This was my 5th projector having gone very budget previously with projectors from Goodee, Bomaker, Yaber, Wimius etc. Common thing with these was the claims of 6000-6500 lumens of brightness when the truth would have been nearer 1000-1200 probably.Decided to spend more and go for one of the big 3 in Optoma, Benq or Epson. I didnt want to spend above £500 and checked out reviews and Youtube for all the contenders. When I saw Richer doing the Benq TH585 at an £80 discount against most of the others I went for it. I am so glad I did as this 1080p projector is superb. 3500 Lumens actually means it with great brightness even with just blinds closed and sunny outside. I am not a gamer but daily watching of Blurays played through my LG 4K Bluray player are excellent. Added bonuses of the lens aims upwards so my tripod is at its lowest instead of 53 inches up in the air to get the picture squared above the sofa. A 110 inch screen from 10-12 feet is perfect for the room I use it in. Another bonus with blinds closed is you can easily use it on Lampsave setting and get 15000 hours on the lamp instead of 4000 on Normal setting. Also at all lamp settings the fan is much,much quieter than my previous budget projectors. Just a couple of downsides, one being no lens cap supplied to keep dust at bay and pretty awful sound from the 10watt mono speaker. I routinely connect my LG Soundbar and Subwoofer to the Bluray player so no problem there. All in all very happy and will keep this till I can afford to move up to a 4k Laser Ultra Short Throw model.

I purchased this as a replacemnt for a much older Infocus HD projector which developed a fault. I already own an older Benq 1070 which is OK and was good value. The Benq TH585 is also good value but the image, although bright with good colours is not perfect. The deep blacks/shadows are not well detailed at all and although dark seem like dark blobs. At this price level I don't expect extreme shadow detail but the blacks do sometimes dominate. I use the projector on cinema setting for watching blurays. The main problem is light splash/spill. The projector shines light outside the HD image both horizontally and vertically. This can be seen outside my projection screen black boundary. My other projectors did not do this. I am sure that the projector would be better for games as this is its main design aim. All this having been said there is not much at all at this price level which is any good. If I had been able to view the projector prior to purchase I would probably have gone for a more expensive option which gives a better performance.The projector was not availble in store to view (not stocked in store) and the Richer sounds sales assistant that I spoke to had never seen one in operation so I was buying blind.So the Benq TH585 is a decent product but be aware of its limitations.
