Bought this online with option to deliver to store (Hanley). Projector arrived promptly and as ever the staff at RS were great (as expected). Iv had a W1070 for about 7 years now in the main room and fancied a gaming projector in the study - given the quality of my 1070, I had no hesitation in buying the well reviewed 585 - set up was a doddle and iv got an 80 inch screen from about 8.5 feet throw. What I have noticed is the brightness of this compared to the W1070 - wow - I'm on lamp save mode (apparently can give 14000 lamp life hours) and its still plenty bright enough in the day with the blinds closed - iv hopefully attached two images showing a bright day with blinds closed and open (and one with normal lamp mode with blind open) Gaming is superb and fan noise ... MoreBought this online with option to deliver to store (Hanley). So its a definite two thumbs up from me and hopefully I shouldn't have to replace the lamp for many a year :)

This was my 5th projector having gone very budget previously with projectors from Goodee, Bomaker, Yaber, Wimius etc. Common thing with these was the claims of 6000-6500 lumens of brightness when the truth would have been nearer 1000-1200 probably.Decided to spend more and go for one of the big 3 in Optoma, Benq or Epson. I didnt want to spend above £500 and checked out reviews and Youtube for all the contenders. When I saw Richer doing the Benq TH585 at an £80 discount against most of the others I went for it. I am so glad I did as this 1080p projector is superb. 3500 Lumens actually means it with great brightness even with just blinds closed and sunny outside. Sharpness and colour are fantastic on watching Wonder Woman 84 on Bluray particularly the opening 10 mins of IMAX footage. I am not a gamer but daily watching of Blurays played through my LG 4K Bluray player are excellent. Added bonuses of the lens aims upwards so my tripod is at its lowest instead of 53 inches up in the air to get the picture squared above the sofa. A 110 inch screen from 10-12 feet is perfect for the room I use it in. Another bonus with blinds closed is you can easily use it on Lampsave setting and get 15000 hours on the lamp instead of 4000 on Normal setting. Also at all lamp settings the fan is much, much quieter than my previous budget projectors. Just a couple of downsides, one being no lens cap supplied to keep dust at bay and pretty awful sound from the 10watt mono speaker. I routinely connect my LG Soundbar and Subwoofer to the Bluray player so no problem there. All in all very happy and will keep this till I can afford to move up to a 4k Laser Ultra Short Throw model.

I purchased this as a replacemnt for a much older Infocus HD projector which developed a fault. I already own an older Benq 1070 which is OK and was good value. The Benq TH585 is also good value but the image, although bright with good colours is not perfect. The deep blacks/shadows are not well detailed at all and although dark seem like dark blobs. At this price level I don't expect extreme shadow detail but the blacks do sometimes dominate. I use the projector on cinema setting for watching blurays. The main problem is light splash/spill. I am sure that the projector would be better for games as this is its main design aim. All this having been said there is not much at all at this price level which is any good. If I had been able to view the projector prior to purchase I would probably have gone for a more expensive option which gives a better performance. The projector was not availble in store to view (not stocked in store) and the Richer sounds sales assistant that I spoke to had never seen one in operation so I was buying blind. So the Benq TH585 is a decent product but be aware of its limitations.

Great home theater projector but...
13 August 2022

Purchased this as I was on a budget for a home theater projector. Clear images, works in bright light, easy to setup and use. The only issue I have is that there is a big black border around the projected screen that is not usable. It is very noticeable in dark scenes, especially when projected onto a fixed frame. I did some research and found that the type of "chip" used in this projector causes this and it is unavoidable. If I had known about this beforehand, would not have purchased. But overall, very good quality projector for the price if you are not bothered by this.

High quaility projection
20 September 2022

I bought this a week ago , which is my first projector ever and i am no expert on this. Its really good for playing games in my ps4 console and watch movies. And this is really a good quaility projector. Easy to connect and setup.I can play games connecting to my ps4 and watch movie from chromecast from my phone.Sound quality is ok but you can connect extra speaker if you want quaility sound.Really bright during day and night of course. But needs to put around 3 to 5 mtr from projection wall for best image quaility. Happy with the purchase .

On my 3rd unit after dead pixel problems. Otherwise great.

I love this projector but I don't trust it. It's bright and affordable and can be used for gaming with its low input lag. Colors are great and it was easy to match fairly closely to my MacBook Pro display. I use it in my living room attached to a FireTV, Nintendo Switch and Gaming PC and for that purpose, it works flawlessly. The zoom and throw ratio allows for a 120 screen in my 11' wide room with the projector mounted on the ceiling behind my couch and the screen on the opposite wall. Overall, I'm happy with the image quality, brightness, noise level and low input lag, but I don't trust it in terms of quality control and reliability due to hot pixels.I've had to have 2 replacements from BenQ under warranty so far for hot/dead pixel problems. The first unit got a dead pixel after 11 months and was replaced. The replacement unit also got a dead pixel after 8 months and I'm currently waiting for another replacement from BenQ. Luckily BenQ support is very responsive and the unit has a 3 year warranty. That said, I have no faith that the projector will last past the 3 year warranty without getting another hot pixel after a few months.

There's nothing better at this price point. After sunset, this baby produces a picture that is top-notch.Hooked up our appleTV and streamed the Olympics on YouTubeTV, and had a camp-out movie night with the kids. The picture quality, color and motion is phenomenal (with sports or animated content). Thankfully, No blooming or rainbow-effect was noticeable to me, (that's a big pet peeve of mine from early DLPs.)This projector makes a NOTICEABLY better quality image than the epson vs260 i am used to (higher res, brighter, and MUCH better motion). Feeding it a 4k signal (a UHD .mkv file) I couldn't even notice the scaling. No HDR here, but no sweat. At least benQ isn't trying to fake it or just lying about it's viability at this level.Obviously at 3500 lumens, it's not going to outshine the sun, so daytime movie screenings outdoors aren't happening, but in our dimly lit basement, or after dusk this thing is amazing. Can't wait to try out the high refresh rate and low latency of this projector playing some video games on here. Also, it is so nice that there are multiple inputs/outputs on this model. (More than you can say for a similarly priced optoma projector) 2 HDMI, 1 VGA (plus a monitor out), 3.5mm audio in AND a 3.5mm out (you WILL need this since the speaker is rubbish), plus a 1.5A USB port (power or slideshow)I wish it came with a bag or case, but honestly, for what they're charging, there's nothing better.I'm projecting onto a budget 100 roll-up screen from elite. From my results, I can say that it would have easily handled 120 or more.

Very pleased - Good picture - very easy to set up

Bought before Christmas for family movies. Replaced previous projector. Very easy to set up especially the keystone though only keystone one direction (can't remember whether vertical or horizontal) but a wiggle lined it up fine. Very bright and much quieter fan than old projector. The image also seems to be positioned higher/upwards compared to our last prj. So we had to prop it up at the back or we would have needed to move it down a shelf which would have meant people causing shadows if they moved. Image is fine though. It is smaller than our last one which means it fits the shelf better although doesn't seem to be as robust as our old projector but good enough and a very decent price. We are really pleased with it. Hope lamp life is as promised!.

Very quickly impressed
28 July 2020

This is my third projector, having two previous Optomas. This TH585 replaced my 8-year-old Optoma HD20 and blew it away immediately. A lot can happen in technology in 8 years.I shopped for the Epson C2100 and Optoma HD27 before being attracted to the BenQ price quite frankly. After looking at the specs and reviews, it looked like I gave nothing up in the sub-$800 cost of the TH585 vs the $1000 for the Epson. Now, I'm sure the others have some great things going for them, but I'll never need to find out as I'm perfectly content with the BenQ TH585.Set up was easy. I have it placed behind me for a 108" diagonal picture. I have it placed behind me for a 108" diagonal picture. The brightness, contrast and vividness vs my old HD20 (mind you, after a couple of bulb changes of dubiuos non-factory quality), went from looking like it was a projector screen to looking like an actual LCD 1080p TV.Fan noise is much improved over my Optoma.I teetered on looking for a 4k projector, but then I would have had to change my receiver to pass 4k HMDI through it, and I still am not a fan of the soap-opera look of some 4k programs. The 1080p of this projector is great even for my PS4 gaming. Super crisp and clear. Switching from the baseball game and it's red-brown dirt and green grass, to a newscast with blue graphics and I felt like all the colours were bang on. Yes, the factory settings from any manufacturer can be a little too vivid, by I really haven't changed a thing on any of the factory picture modes at all. I love them as they are.As I have a dedicated basement home theatre room with minimal light, I actually felt it was too bright in "normal" light mode and was able to turn it down to ECO mode to save bulb life. When light does come in during the day through the one window that is there, this projector is still plenty bright even in ECO mode. Setting it to full brightness in a windowed room I would think still be a great picture.BenQ wasn't even on my radar 8 years ago when I got my last Optoma, but with my first major purchase, they've made me a big fan very quickly.

let me preface this review by saying i'm not a techie. i'm just a regular girl who wanted a decent projector for a reasonable price. i didn't have thousands of dollars to throw at this set-up so i did a ton of research and decided on the benq. never heard of the brand before but apparently it has a great reputation in the projector world. i do not regret my choice. fan noise is minimal and the screen is super bright. i've been using it in my house with skylights, regular lights on and the picture is deep, sharp and bright. the sound from the projector itself is lacking but i was able to use the media stick's bluetooth to connect to my jbl speaker and it's awesome. no lag in sound. overall, i'm SUPER please with my decision and of course buying from B&H is always the ... Morelet me preface this review by saying i'm not a techie. i'm just a regular girl who wanted a decent projector for a reasonable price. i didn't have thousands of dollars to throw at this set-up so i did a ton of research and decided on the benq. never heard of the brand before but apparently it has a great reputation in the projector world. i do not regret my choice. fan noise is minimal and the screen is super bright. i've been using it in my house with skylights, regular lights on and the picture is deep, sharp and bright. the sound from the projector itself is lacking but i was able to use the media stick's bluetooth to connect to my jbl speaker and it's awesome. no lag in sound. overall, i'm SUPER please with my decision and of course buying from B&H is always the most cost effective and seamless way to go!
