I have used this product very successfully in the past and recently bought 6 containers. One container was completely void of fluid, the others were sealed properly but the shad were hard, as if they had gotten dry before being packaged and were packaged and sold anyway. Bottom line is all were unfishable (or at least would have really poor action in the water because they were not soft like they should be). Also, I tried to give Berkley this feedback by email through the "contact us" and their ridiculous "I am not a robot" would not let me through even after at least 12 tries. Then my attempt to reach them through the 800 number was abandoned after being on hold for 15 minutes.Too bad. This is an effective bait when handled properly at the factory and delivered ... MoreI have used this product very successfully in the past and recently bought 6 containers. I use gulp for summer fluke. I fish side by side with a natural bait only guy and I do outfish him frequently. However, when there's an abundant natural bait bite it does limit artificial success. I often reuse baits for multiple catches getting right back into the action.

The jerk shad work well for back country reds, trout and snook. The baits themselves can curl in the packaging, making them spin on retrieve. The formulation also sometimes makes them too soft resulting in tearing when you put them on a jig or on a twist lock. Some have also been pretty stiff making them difficult to attach to those rigs.

I have been using this product for a few years now. I like to stock up on the winter. There is no jerk Shad that has the same action and sent! I. Like them in the lake ans well for the largemouth. Bass Only draw back is that they are not as durable as I would like them.
I use these gulp saltwater jerk shad for fun drop shot fishing off Southern California coast. What i love is it seems to fish best deadsticked so i can effectively fish two rods at a time and when bite is on it keeps me very busy.I like to use a lockspring on a octopus style hook so that bait lasts alot longer and has more natural action. The cool thing about gulp baits is fish will go in for a quick taste an then usually comeback an wallop it and get the hook.Very effective!
These are a bit expensive but they work! This was the first year I started using these from surf to target fluke. Put them on a 3/8 or 1/4 jig head and it is deadly if you know how to work them. I've caught more fluke from shore with these than from my boat and kayak combined using the traditional bucktail/gulp/teaser combo. I loaded up on these for next season as the 6 inch are hard to find in peak fluke season.
Great bait for fluke. But it has a couple downfalls. It doesnt hold up as well as some other products out there. My biggest complaint is in the packaging. Some of the product will have irregular bends in the tail that wont staighten out when using and ruins its action. Make sure you look them over before buying.
Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Go directly to your nearest BCF and load up on Berkley Gulp! 7” Jerkshads and in Pearl White/Blue Pepper Neon. Ultimate plastic, enough said.
Gulp is a 5 star product however, the new plastic is not as hard or durable as it once was...as why its now a 3 or 2 star rating. Recently this summer'23 I bought new gulp to replenish my stock of it before going out to fish and noticed the old ones are much harder and durable. I just thought Gulp was mimicking another brands softness or I thought a supply chain issue and it would change back but I am seeing all styles (grubs, mullet, shrimp, jerk shad) shifting to this softer less durable formulation. While it does catch fish, it can't handle staying up on bait hook barbs and slides down. This was the reason for using bait holder style hooks to fish soft baits and its no better than a plain hook now and need to keep checking the gulp if its slid down to the hook ... MoreGulp is a 5 star product however, the new plastic is not as hard or durable as it once was...as why its now a 3 or 2 star rating. You used to be able to withstand a few hard hits from tearout but seems less likely to be able to with its softer plastic. You will need alot more Gulp if you don't mind the price increase and your wallet is no object.I hope Berkely/Gulp changes back to its original plastic formula. Otherwise, I have to switch soft baits to another brand I know is 4x more durable for the same price and does catch fish...other brand even can withstand a few bluefish hits and catches unharmed...old or new Gulp never could.Gulp has been my staple for years of saltwater fluke fishing...I am changing my mind about it...and many others may too.
I've been using Gulp for both fresh and saltwater fishing for years now. I'm willing to say it works as good as fresh live bait and sometimes it's better. I don't think color makes any difference so I just keep on using the same chartreuse, and new penny colors. No reason to try anything new with the great results this bait supplies. I do have some issues with the packaging. The bags and the jars leak, eventually. You have to treat them very carefully to maintain the seal.PS got this beautiful Drum on a 5-inch new penny Jerk Shad. Little bait, big fish. Tight lines.
