I had one of these years ago and thought it was ok, just bought 2 for my kayak as they are not to cumbersome.For some reason the one I have on the right is a heap of trouble, nearly lost my rod a few times today and that was just on Australian Bass.The holder turns 90 degrees and the rod comes close to flying out.Pretty disappointed in honesty, they’ve been making these for a while now, don’t they ever field test?

These rod holders were recommended by our son. I purchased two a couple months back for my wife and me. They were easy to install in the boat and they are very easy to use. We traded or and installed additional bases in other locations in the boat. He used the other style base in his boat. Haven't found a style of rod that won't work in them yet. We especially like the easy rod insertion and removal as well as the height and rotation adjustments for different fishing situations. Great Product.

I recently purchased one of these to give it a try after having it recommended by a fly fishing guide. I used it this past week for the first time and liked it enough to order another one and two more for a friend. I have Scotty rod holders for my fly rods, and while they work well, it is not easy to get a fast hook set. These Berkley holders fit into my Scotty rod mounts, and are much better for fast hook sets. I've read several complaints about people not knowing how they work (?), so I've attached a photo so you can see how they set up for fly rods. Simply lift up and they come out of the holder.
Great product, have a few of these on my tinnie - any angle or position from the adjustable key-lock base allows you to position rods for tide against anchor when in the salt, or orientation when you're tied up to a tree for any breeze when in a lake or river. Quick to pick-up when a bite is seen, and lock the rod well when in the holder. Only criticism is that the lock arms aren't stainless, and they do surface rust, but still work OK. Just keep the pivot points lubed with WD40 andl all OK.
Works perfect. Easy set up and one hand operation. This is exactly what I was look for on my aluminum boat. Now I can run the outboard set the rod down when trolling.

My first trip out trolling for striped bass, I did not have the confident that my rod would remain in the holder if I got a snag. I was using a Berkley Big Game casting rod and it barely fits in the holder. I also went sturgeon fishing and the rod holders performed okay while the boat was anchored. PROS: 1. Inexpensive; 2. Small and light; 3. Okay to use while boat is anchored; and, 4. Lots of base configurations. CONS: 1. Not recommended for trolling for big fish; 2. No instructions on how to use the holders; and, 3. Will not fit a big game fishing pole. I would only recommend these rod holders for small fish like trout. Being new to rod holders I ordered a couple of different makes to see what looks good and feels the best. These Berkley ones are ok nothing special and will do the job but thought the tightening nuts and teeth were poorly made and wont last. I highly recommend the Brocraft American ones which are far better quality and come with all the fittings
Oustanding rod holder. Two brackets per holder make it very versatile and the holder itself is the best I've used. When a fish bites, the rod can be quickly removed to handle the fish.Not the least expensive holder but worth the money. I highly recommend this product.
This rod holder could not be more perfect for my canoe and kay needsHaving both side mount AND flat vertical mounts included is a huge advantage. I mount both on my canoes for variable access. I like that the rod holder can be removed from the base easily for tranportationWe fish Wisconsin inland lakes and rivers. A big fish for us would be 12 to 20 lbs. We are NOT fishing big marlin in the ocean. This rod holder is plenty beefy for our needsIt is so simple to use that I could not figure it out at first. TOO easy to use. Just flip the holder bale to one side and drop the rod into the carriage. The bail automatically flips into place. Easy fast operation to remove the rod when you get a bite too.I love mine. Perfect.
