I had a quick brazing job to do and didn't want to spend the $300-700 bucks to buy an actual cutting/brazing rig. I've come to regret not just making the initial investment. The O2 tank will only allow for about 15 minutes of torch time. This would be sufficient time to get a braze done with an actual torch, however, it's hard/impossible to get the heat needed quickly enough to get the braze done. I have no idea how you could ever get this thing to cut metal, but it says you can. For a small job I ended up going through three O2 bottles and at the end I've got nothing left from the $100 I spent.Summary: Will get the job done just make sure to buy extra O2 bottles. If you have the money just suck it up and buy an oxygen/acetylene torch.

I don't think I've ever purchased a product that was so bad at doing its job. Tried to braze 4 copper tubes for HVAC project. Could not get finished brazing 4 copper tubes despite buying 2 bottles of oxygen. very challenging to find right flame and flame constantly going out. DO NOT BUY

I wasn't expecting the oxygen to last forever.. but I didn't even get thru 5 attempts before the tank died. Maybe it was the inaccurate oxygen valve that used up all the O2. I'm used to gas coming out soon after it's opened..but the valve is Soo cheap,it took over a full turn and half to open... dangerous!!Easing the valve open with no results led me to the trouble shooting guide and it suggested to blow it against paper to see proof of flow....well I was amazed how many times I had to turn it to get flow! When trying to gradually ease the oxygen open, one never knows when it will flow, scary. The valves on both fuel and oxygen turned out to be less than accurate because once set..the rate of flow fluctuated!!!! horrible!By the time I got it to stabilize, the tank ... MoreI wasn't expecting the oxygen to last forever.. but I didn't even get thru 5 attempts before the tank died. I read the negative reviews, but thought I might get lucky, and I would be able to braze with it. Nope! The fuel would ignite, but the oxygen never seemed to add to the flame. If there was any! The oxy tank was much lighter than the Map. No surprise, since it says there's 1.4 oz in the oxy tank, and 14.1 oz in the Map! Yet, I understand that more oxy needs to burn, than the Map. But, as far as I could tell, the oxy tank was empty.I'm a person who reads the instructions. So, I was amazed to see the blatant typos! For the French instructions, where the info. that accompanies the illustrations says the two different flame sizes are both 5/16"! How sloppy and careless can you get? And, for a device that has such devastating potential!Of course, there's so much play in the adjustment for the oxygen, I doubt anyone could control within 1/16", anyway, even if they got the oxy to kick in, which I couldn't.Don't waste your money on this kit! It's worthless. I'll be returning mine.
Not sure why majority of reviews are bad. This little thing works excellent! Very easy to adjust to get a perfect flame. Maybe the other people just aren't familiar with how to properly use this setup. Had no problems getting some ½" thick pieces of steel red hot and melted brazing rod with ease. This thing gets just as hot as and oxy/acetalyne torch.
I used this same setup in the '80s for a few years and had it in storage. The hoses had deteriorated, so I had to toss the kit. I looked online for similar kits, and found Lowe's had best price (some other places had the item for $50 more!). I have been able to use the new kit as I did the old, to do light soldering of jump rings and the like. Yes, the valve settings are tempramental, but with practice they are fine. Yes, the Oxygen depletes quickly, but I have learned how to use a very low flame. Good buy in my opinion!
Just what I needed, a really inexpensive torch for brazing thin metal. I have read other reviews complaining about how short a time the oxygen bottle lasts. One must remember that since this is a light duty torch designed only for use for light metal brazing, the propane canister must be adjusted to a very minimal flame before VERY slowly introducing oxygen to the mixture. I have already done four brazing jobs with high temperature brazing rods and I still have oxygen remaining in my first oxygen bottle.
I’ve been on the fence for months thinking about this thing. So many bad reviews on it. I went ahead and grabbed one and took it home to check it out. My main use will be brazing. Just to test it I grabbed a 1/8” Thick washer and a 3/16” thick old wrench to see if I could stick em together. First off the remarks about it being finicky to adjust is somewhat true. No gauges to go by. But I quickly found what works for THIS one. There’s no doubt every one of these things are probably a tad different. Anyway I had no problem getting a suitable brazing flame and using their flux coated bronze rod I was pretty surprised. For what it is intended, light use, I think I will be happy with it. As others stated the canister stand is a joke. I made a stand/holding unit and now ... MoreI’ve been on the fence for months thinking about this thing. So many bad reviews on it. As others stated the canister stand is a joke. I made a stand/holding unit and now it’s a lot steadier without the bottles falling down. I’ll give it 4 stars. They could have done much better with the stand and the oxy cost is insane. I’ll add this to anyone getting one. Mark your knobs so you can keep up with where your adjustments are. Mine takes very little mapp but the oxy takes a couple of turns to kick in. Then I adjust to my needed flame. Approach oxy VERY slowly to avoid popping out. Hope this helps
First let me say that this is not an Oxy/Acetylene rig, but it is small torch kit for small home projects. Yes it is quirky to use in that the controls can be touchy to regulate the flame. Small adjustments are needed. It is not unsafe as others have pointed out. Yes it doesn't have flashback arrestors, but if one reads and follows the directions it is a perfectly safe torch to use. I found it humorous in the instruction when they talk about using the torch for cutting. Really guys/gals you are not going to be cutting with this torch. There is just not enough gas nor is there the correct torch head for cutting. What did tick me off was that it did not come with the specified brasing/welding rods that the box indicated that it came with and the picture shows. I thought gas for the Bronco was expensive. Wrong! If I were to use this in an attempt to make repairs or crafts for monetary gain I would quickly find any and all profits and time blown away in a whirlwind of brand new red cylinders, due to the fact that they contain an approximately useless amount of oxygen, compounded by the drift in the flame(the cause of which I am ~hopefully~ attributing to the rapid emptying, and therefore decrease in pressure of said red cylinders, and not actual valve drift...) causing further waste and poor results as adjustments to gas level are much to soon, and far to often required. I guess it's a good thing I'm just a do-it-myself-er who happens to be broke as a joke and had to beg and borrow for the opportunity to own this, and not a ... MoreI thought gas for the Bronco was expensive. That out of the way: for a beginner trying to learn, this is exactly the opposite of helpful as the constant adjustments and high cost of the short lived oxygen cylinders leave me with little time or resource to practice. I guess I should know by now to check the reviews and to not buy any type of tool that is anything more complex than a roofing tack off a hardware store shelf with the expectations of a quality product. Maybe as the son of an Ironworker I am just utterly spoiled, however one thing is sure: I have begun to really appreciate why my father always had such a big lunch box.
