Beyerdynamic DT 150 Closed-Back Isolating Studio Monitoring Headphones

These are great headphones for clear and loud monitoring when playing drums or guitars where you need good bass response without distortion. They are also very comfortable to wear.

This is the first time I've gone for industry standard studio headphones having used £15 Sennheiser's for donkeys years and I'm not overly impressed. Yes, they can be repaired easily and they are rugged, but these were supposed to be the best of the range to block out surrounding noise, I don't think so, not great in that department. They sound very odd, boxy, even using Reference 4 to sort the curve doesn't help much, they still sound boxy. And they slip about on my head. I took the padding off the headband and it improved, but then not that comfortable. The only thing I can say positive about these headphones is they don't seem to distort too much at loud volume and they're likely to last me a decent while, mainly because I may not use them as much as I should. These are pretty nice cans for the price but considering there isn't many marketing done there you mostly pay for the components. Bass so low i got the hum and even some says they're not comfy, they are and a clamping force isn't strong either. built like a tank. Highly recommend it.

Needed a closed back option for monitoring. I have the hd-600’s as well and these are a comparable closed back option. They’re so loud.Price was the best I could find online.
I bought the DT-150 for recording in studio situations for their good isolation. Mostly for vocals but will use for everything especially live recording when recording demos in the same room as a drummer. my first impression out of the box was that they were uglier than i thought they would be. i like the look, sorta have that vintage look to them which i dig about them, but yea not the best looking cans..These headphones sound really nice, very very clear with good isolation for recording drums or vocals. I would give them a 5/5 for sound. Now I have given them a 4 because of comfort. If i had to choose a pair of headphones again, this would be the only reason I would find something else. I have to adjust these often to sit correctly on my head, and they dont always feel like they are centered. i would say they are better suited for people in the industry, who want strong headphones that will last a long time, they are great quality and will stand the test of time, which ofcourse they are made for these applications. they do sound excellent. But, i would try a pair of DT770's if i was looking for a set of closed cans, because the DT-150's get a bit annoying to wear comfort wise and are pretty heavy. but over all i dont feel like i have wasted money on these, they will be used alot and do exaclty what i bought them to do. 4/5. thanks B&H!
These phones are an evolution of the DT100s and as such are excellent. The DT100 is an industry standard for a reason; they sound good and are extremely well built. If its style and portability you are after, then look elsewhere; I have Bose phones for that. These are high impedance at 250 ohm and probably at the limit of iwhatevers can drive. Used with a Bluetooth headphone amp also gets around Apples refusal to accept anything that isnt Beats. Sat at home listening to movies or music, these aim to replicate the source to the best of their ability. My Dad had DT100s in the 1970s and spares are still available today. Its a pity some very well known brands fail to support products less than 5 years old....in that case, it was just the ear cushions! They will last for years and outlast any trends. If you value repairable product over replaceable ones, these are for you.
Unbelievable sound quality, amazing build quantity and very lightweight
I need to use these Studio Headphones for fifty hours before they are operating at their best. They are doing very well so far. I'm looking forward to this.
I had these DT150's before and sold them. Regretted it ever since. I've had Sennheiser HD 650, Denon D5000 & D7200, to name but a few. I purchased the Beyerdynamic DT250 last week......and promptly returned them. They are, as described on the box , flat response, but emphasis on mids with quite a lot of siblant top end. No where near the quality build of the DT150's either. I listen to dance, rock, techno, reggae, R&B. The DT150'S are punchy, especially picking up the low bass end without sounding like Beats or.....Skullcandy crushers....yes, I've even tried those! Of all the headphones I still have, these are the ones I end up using more than any others. I'm happy again now that I've got the DT150'S back in my collection.
I thought a lot before Rating and providing comments about these headphones so i will try my best to provide a balanced review! I bought these for DJ-ing with, having used Sennheiser HD25p phones for about 14 years and loved the sound quality, size and built quality of these. I have also owned a pair of Beyer DT100s which are built like a tank but have SUCH a flat sound they are useless for club DJ-ing. DT150s are more or less the same as the DT100s but have a wider frequency response and much lower bass end. So far so good. BUT... 1. Build quality in my opinion is not as good as DT100s 2. They are not loud enough for clubbing (much quieter than Sennheiser HD25p) 3. Are bit too big (think of Mickey Mouse's Ears!) and lack cool factor when DJ-ing 4. ... MoreI thought a lot before Rating and providing comments about these headphones so i will try my best to provide a balanced review! Speaker-bit/diaphragm (or whatever they are called in headphones) sit a bit too far from the ear, or maybe I am going a bit deaf... affecting the volume/power getting to your ear 5. Only have 1/4 inch jack (you will have to purchase a 3.5mm jack converter to plug into computer, iPod etc) 6. Don't fold well (have to squeeze them into my car's glove compartment which they don't like) For normal use, these 6 points might not worry you but, as a DJ, I would not recommend them if you intend DJ-ing in loud clubs etc. if you want to perhaps DJ from home or don't mind purchasing the 3.5 mm converter to listen to iPod or your HiFi then they will reward you with great sound. Build will be more than sufficient I guess for most users, even pro use, remember all parts are replaceable. I will probably keep mine for a while and look out for a second hand pair of Sennheiser HD25 phones, bit pricey but worth every penny. Why did I not buy these instead f the Beyer DT150? I don't know, moment of dumbness... To summarise, great headphones but not for DJ-ing in clubs.
