These are fairly neutral. Bass response is awesome and it is not exeggerated at all. Only downside that they have a bit exeggerated treble. But not harsh at all. If you want a warm and smooth sound go elsewhere. If you like detailed and articulate sound these are great in mid budget. I played them with Mackbook Pro without any external amplification. Great tool for recording engineers and loudspeaker designers.

At the time I bought these headphones PMT had the best price for them online. From my own research and experience I doubt you will find a better headphone sub £1000. The amount of information you get from these headphones is incredible, in some tracks you can even hear the vocalist opening their lips to sing. Frequency response is completely flat meaning you have the same incredible quality from the lowest bass all the way through to the high hat. (Thus if you are a ‘bass head’ these are not the headphones for you) I paired mine with a FIIO BTR5 DAC/amp, which isn’t rated for impedance as high as in the DT 1990’s, however the sound is superb and you will have absolutely no problem with volume. Don’t just take my word for it though, I am yet to find a reviewer who would say that this isn’t outstanding value for money. Just as a warning however, these headphones are not designed for listening on the go, and require a quiet room as they are open- back. Personally I am more concerned with function than form, however these headphones have an elegant and robust design, unlike its competitors such as the Sennheiser HD 600s, which feel very ‘plastically’. For sound engineers, to anyone who just loves good music, I cannot recommend these headphones enough. And as long as PMT still has the best price (when I bought them they were £340), this is the place to get them.
