These are fairly neutral. Bass response is awesome and it is not exeggerated at all. Only downside that they have a bit exeggerated treble. But not harsh at all. If you want a warm and smooth sound go elsewhere. If you like detailed and articulate sound these are great in mid budget. I played them with Mackbook Pro without any external amplification. Great tool for recording engineers and loudspeaker designers.

At the time I bought these headphones PMT had the best price for them online. From my own research and experience I doubt you will find a better headphone sub Ā£1000. The amount of information you get from these headphones is incredible, in some tracks you can even hear the vocalist opening their lips to sing. Frequency response is completely flat meaning you have the same incredible quality from the lowest bass all the way through to the high hat. (Thus if you are a ā€˜bass head’ these are not the headphones for you) I paired mine with a FIIO BTR5 DAC/amp, which isn’t rated for impedance as high as in the DT 1990’s, however the sound is superb and you will have absolutely no problem with volume. I would highly recommend this set up as one that for a price of under ...Ā MoreAt the time I bought these headphones PMT had the best price for them online. Don’t just take my word for it though, I am yet to find a reviewer who would say that this isn’t outstanding value for money. Just as a warning however, these headphones are not designed for listening on the go, and require a quiet room as they are open- back. Personally I am more concerned with function than form, however these headphones have an elegant and robust design, unlike its competitors such as the Sennheiser HD 600s, which feel very ā€˜plastically’. For sound engineers, to anyone who just loves good music, I cannot recommend these headphones enough. And as long as PMT still has the best price (when I bought them they were Ā£340), this is the place to get them.

I'm using with a Presonus StudioLive AR8c and it works perfectly. As expected it is necessary to push a litle more gain to hear it good given the headphone have 250 Ohms. I was looking for a set to upgrade from my DT 990s. Since I do like the sound profile Beyerdynamics has, I decided these would be worth looking at. Immediately from having this hooked in, there’s a much more refined aspect to the sound from the 1990s. Trebles compared to the 990s maintain clarity while not being ā€œoverpoweringā€ (which was never an issue to me on the 990s either). Bass sounds much more whole as well.Overall construction is also a massive step up and it definitely looks the part. It’s not the lightest pair but it’s pretty comfortable to keep on. The clamping force was definitely a bit high for the first few hours but I’m not sure if it loosened a bit or if I got used to it.Overall this pair is just an amazing listening experience. ...Ā MoreI was looking for a set to upgrade from my DT 990s. These headphones with the balanced pads on are absolutely fantastic. Theyre built like a German tank, comfortable without too much clamp, and the sound is absolutely top notch. These are detail monsters with so much quality, deep and impactful bass. The mids are silky smooth and everything sounds so good. Using them for gaming? Oh yes. Hands down the best gaming headphones Ive ever used. The imaging is astounding, they create a real sense of virtual 3D surround, and things really sound like theyre behind, above, below or in front of you. Superb for FPS games. These are a huge improvement over the dt 990, they dont have anywhere near the same level of sibilance, in fact I dont find these remotely sibilant. Dt 990 are slightly comfier though. So I was about to give these a 4 star review because the comfort of my denon ahd5200 are just a little better.But... as I am typing I am also listening to Thriller on vinyl. The song starts and to the left of my recliner is my front door. If you know the song it starts with a door creaking open in the left channel. To say my heart stopped would be no understatement. It was eerie and I thought someone was coming in my house. The dt1990 could be a small bit more comfortable (maybe pad change), I'm not a huge fan of single sided cables, and Like every headphone the sound is subjective.Another But I think they sound very clear, quick, dynamic, and I like the tone. At $600, this is a no-brainer. On sale, it's a steal! You will be hard pressed to find any headphones with this level of detail and excellent German build quality for the price. It's an open back design which does not isolate you from external noise, as does a closed back. Try listening with both sets of pads to see which is best for you. Both are comfortable but will change the sound signature. Overall, these headphones are comfortable and adjustable to fit most heads. Because of their robust build quality, they are not considered to be light weight..yet to me it's a welcome trade off. The ear cups are generous, not creating a hot spot on my ears. These are not airplane headphones...etc. If you get listening fatigue from bright highs, you may want to consider the Beyerdynamic Amiron Home. Beyerdynamic designs and builds quality headphones throughout their product range. Lastly, I will share what equipment I use to enjoy these headphones. Hiby - R5 DAP ($350) Schiit - Asgard Headphone Amp w/ True Multi Bit DAC ($450) I highly recommend the Schiit Amp with these headphones. You can always use your phone as a DAP and save money.

i have never owned good audio equipment. i started with "akg n30s" then got a cheap amplifier called the "btr5" which soon made me realize that the n30s suck and my old studio sonys sounded better powered correctly. then i moved on to goodwill speakers (lol) because they sounded better. "altec lansing acs5" and "cambridge audio soundworks 12v 1997" are my mains. but the "dt 1990 pro" really does dump (lol newegg and its "unacceptable words") on all of them. the sound is precisely what the creator intended for you to hear. i can also hear the bad in the tracks that arent mastered as well even though theyre pulled from tidal, so if your setup isnt good (file->dac/amp->headphones) then youll know for sure with these. i cannot recommend beyerdynamics enough. if you ... Morei have never owned good audio equipment. i started with "akg n30s" then got a cheap amplifier called the "btr5" which soon made me realize that the n30s suck and my old studio sonys sounded better powered correctly. then i moved on to goodwill speakers (lol) because they sounded better. "tuning the strings" by nathan micay, "Sæglópur" by sigur ross, "dust in the wind" by kansas but it has to be from the live album "works in progress", "rooster" by alice in chains but its the live mtv majestic theatre 1996 version, "the sea" by floex but remixed by c418, "august" by feverkin. i have more but these are the best and i would love to see more suggestions in audiophile comments
