Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro | Studio Headphones (Semi-Open)

The DT 880 PRO is the semi-open-model in the classic range and offers impressive natural and neutral sound. These benchmark-setting studio headphones, available in three different models, boast extremely detailed resolution and very transparent sound. The wide stereo image, neutral sound and the extremely high resolution make the beyerdynamic DT 880 PRO headphones a reliable benchmark-setter for studio use. They are a recognised tool amongst sound enthusiasts and a loyal companion for producers. As stereo headphones they help professionals pick up on errors immediately making them ideal for mixing and mastering. The semi-open-back design means that these headphones offer unparalleled spaciousness. They reproduce audio tracks neutrally without changing the tone of the sound. This allows optimum vocal positioning in mixing and ensures every slightest nuance is transparently reproduced. The robust spring steel headband design ensures that the over-ear headphones offer a secure fit. The single-sided cable allows the headphones to be put on and taken off frequently without cables getting tangled, and soft, adjustable ear cups provide for added comfort.

With all of the headphones that I have owned for my life, all I have to say that this is probably the best headphones I have ever bought and tried with my own ears. I love the neutral sound signature that these headphones produces and the sound reproduction from these are accurate that it is indeed for professional use and casual listening at the same time. I have heard some people having issues with the highs from these but for me I did not had any for the lows, mids and trebles are being given equal opportunity to sound at a level that an audio enthusiast can get his/her hands on. I love the build of these headphones for I know when I got it with my hands I can feel that this would last long, due to the fact that it is made in Germany with German engineering being ... MoreWith all of the headphones that I have owned for my life, all I have to say that this is probably the best headphones I have ever bought and tried with my own ears. Comfort, is also a cool factor from these for I have literally worn this from 4-8 hours when I listen my music collection and there are times that I just thought I am not wearing these at all. Recommended!

I love these headphones, let me be clear. They sound amazing, fit very well, and are extremely comfortable. I wear them essentially all day since permanent WFH started over the summer, and it's a common thing for me to get absorbed in what I'm working on and realize that the music stopped 10 (or was it 15?) minutes ago, and I'm still wearing the headphones. The sound is detailed and full, with nice clean bass, solid mids and clear, unharsh highs. The high-impedance design is great; I primarily drive them from a Soundcraft Signature 12MTK mixer's headphone jack (spec'ed at 300mW @ 150Ω) and there's plenty of clean, clear headroom. Two things keep them from five stars for me: first, the coiled cable is too short for desktop listening, annoyingly gets in the way, and ... MoreI love these headphones, let me be clear. I first resoldered the end to a natural 1/4" jack and ultimately bought the BD 3meter straight cable and resoldered it in the 'can. Now I rest easy and do not hate the cabling.Second, the designation of them as "semi-open" led me to believe they would have _some_ isolation properties. They do not. They are effectively open-back headphones, meaning people can have a full, normal voice conversation with you while you're wearing them, but unfortunately you can hear others' conversations whether you want to or not. With those caveats in mind though, I'm strongly positive on these headphones. They look and sound great, and the long-term comfort of them is unmatched in my collection.

After intensely researching many headphones for my first real pair, I determined that the DT880 was the way to go. From what I read they were the perfect balance of what I needed. They are semi-open-backed, and they have a flat reference curve with a bit of emphasis on the high end. I have used these headphones for a few months now, and I am happy with my purchase.A few things to note:Although they haven't given any evidence of breaking, the part to adjust earcup length feels very loose. I believe the cups wobble a bit to conform to the shape of your head but the clasp mechanism holding them in place is plastic and seems like a weak point in its structure. The sound is well balanced with an emphasis on the high ends. The sound is sparkly with some decent bass. ... MoreAfter intensely researching many headphones for my first real pair, I determined that the DT880 was the way to go. They are comfortable and sound great.

Needs some EQ (directly running from a macbook pro 2017) to get working properly I think. I use eqMac and take the oratory1990's presets as starting point. Also eqMac itself directs to certain presets you can use. With those, bass becomes more for my taste. Although you shouldn't really listen metal with these, hard rock and similar things are okay, but I think this shines more when you have high mids. I really enjoy listening Yes, Rush, etc with these. And reviews you see where it says "feels like nothing", they are right. Listened for hours on end, never felt any discomfort. May be hot in the summer but sitting in a home at around 76 degrees, didn't feel hot.And noise bleed is not too much, of course not suitable for an office setting, but you do not need to ... MoreNeeds some EQ (directly running from a macbook pro 2017) to get working properly I think. Still, you can hear a lot with the headphones on, so you may want to shield yourself from noise anyways. Outside noise interferes a lot.

At $600, this is a no-brainer. On sale, it's a steal! You will be hard pressed to find any headphones with this level of detail and excellent German build quality for the price. It's an open back design which does not isolate you from external noise, as does a closed back. Try listening with both sets of pads to see which is best for you. Both are comfortable but will change the sound signature. Overall, these headphones are comfortable and adjustable to fit most heads. Because of their robust build quality, they are not considered to be light weight..yet to me it's a welcome trade off. The ear cups are generous, not creating a hot spot on my ears. These are not airplane headphones...etc. If you get listening fatigue from bright highs, you may want to consider the Beyerdynamic Amiron Home. Beyerdynamic designs and builds quality headphones throughout their product range. Lastly, I will share what equipment I use to enjoy these headphones. Hiby - R5 DAP ($350) Schiit - Asgard Headphone Amp w/ True Multi Bit DAC ($450) I highly recommend the Schiit Amp with these headphones. You can always use your phone as a DAP and save money.

i have never owned good audio equipment. i started with "akg n30s" then got a cheap amplifier called the "btr5" which soon made me realize that the n30s suck and my old studio sonys sounded better powered correctly. then i moved on to goodwill speakers (lol) because they sounded better. "altec lansing acs5" and "cambridge audio soundworks 12v 1997" are my mains. but the "dt 1990 pro" really does dump (lol newegg and its "unacceptable words") on all of them. the sound is precisely what the creator intended for you to hear. i can also hear the bad in the tracks that arent mastered as well even though theyre pulled from tidal, so if your setup isnt good (file->dac/amp->headphones) then youll know for sure with these. i cannot recommend beyerdynamics enough. if you ... Morei have never owned good audio equipment. i started with "akg n30s" then got a cheap amplifier called the "btr5" which soon made me realize that the n30s suck and my old studio sonys sounded better powered correctly. then i moved on to goodwill speakers (lol) because they sounded better. "tuning the strings" by nathan micay, "Sæglópur" by sigur ross, "dust in the wind" by kansas but it has to be from the live album "works in progress", "rooster" by alice in chains but its the live mtv majestic theatre 1996 version, "the sea" by floex but remixed by c418, "august" by feverkin. i have more but these are the best and i would love to see more suggestions in audiophile comments
