Whether the footbed is EVA or cork, there’s something about the Birk fit that just can’t be duplicated. I picked these up for a summer beach trip as an easy off and on/end of day shoe that I could dress up or down. The reality is that they have become my rental house shoes, my recovery shoes after hikes, and still are my going out to dinner shoes. The footbed rises to meet my high arches (just like on a standard Birkenstock foot bed) but I can be just a tad bit rougher with them. Great comfort and have a fair bit of breath ability when you wiggle your foot about to keep any one spot from getting too sweaty. The green colorway is a bit more complex than an army green and is an excellent neutral in any wardrobe. While these are unlikely to feature the same durability and all day comfort of their cork bed cousins, I am still very happy to have them as a kick around sandal for casual summer.

After some research into how to reduce my plantar fasciitis, including speaking to my podiatrist father, wearing insoles in my hiking shoes, and stretching my feet before and after exercise, I decided to try wearing sandals indoors. I've always been a bit of a no-shoes-inside kind of person, perhaps why the plantar fasciitis developed to begin with, but I wanted sandals just for schlepping about indoors that supported my insteps and heels. It was either these Birks or Oofos and I went with these as I've worn the original more rugged Birkenstocks for years and like their comfort and sturdiness and have a strong preference for their look over Oofos. I bought these because I wanted an affordable way to try out Birkenstocks but I also loved the monochrome black look of these more than the original.I ordered my normal size. I found it to be true to size but I did have to tighten the straps quite a bit. I consider myself to have average width feet and this is supposed to be the narrow width but I still found it quite wide. However, the sizing was not an issue for me because the straps are adjustable and I think if I were to go down a size, it would have been too small length wise for my foot.My major complaint about these shoes is that they just make too much noise. When your feet are dry, they'll occasionally make a farting noise. It made me quite self conscious and I don't think I'll be using these as much as I intended.In terms of comfort, I wasn't too impressed. Heard great things about Birkenstocks and maybe I just need to get used to the foot bed but I actually thought it hurt my feet, especially because I wasn't walking comfortably because I was trying to minimize the sound of the squeaking!Also I don't think they're that flattering when worn, the top of the sandals has an irregular shape.
