I find. Birkenstocks to be rigid and uncomfortable. I bought a pair last year and hardly wore them because of the hard plastic they use to go in between your toes. So when I bought a new pair the other day I returned them a day later thinking “why spend more $ on a bad product”. I don’t get why their so popular when they are so uncomfortable

So I was hesitant to order these given the mixed reviews with sizing. The red (which is currently on sale) came back in my size so I decided to go for it, and I'm glad I did! I have pretty narrow feet as it is, so the sizing of these work for me. That said though, they obviously don't work for everyone's feet. I typically wear a 7.5 so I ordered a EU 38 and they fit me perfectly. My feet are snug in there. I plan to start slowing breaking them in but my initial reaction is that they're really comfortable. I have collapsed arches so my feet hurt after awhile; I have a feeling these will provide at least some comfort! The red color is super cute - I like all the colors but the red is kind of dull which I like. It does for me, but I can see why others prefer the wider ones, which it seems only Birkenstock actually sells (I looked elsewhere, all have same sizing as REI except Birkenstock specifically).

It’s hard to find cute Birkenstock Arizona’s in the regular/wide size. They seem to only be making the cute colors in narrow these days or they sell out quickly . So when I found these at Orleans shoes, I was very excited! They are exactly what I was looking for. Ordering was easy and shipping was fast. I will definitely be shopping with Orleans shoes again.

This is my 3rd pair of Birkenstocks and I am finally satisfied. The Gizeh and Madrid styles are semi-comfy, but I never understood the appeal of Birkenstocks with them. I finally decided to try the Arizonas and was very pleased.STYLEThey are traditional Birkenstocks - embrace your inner love child, take a stroll through the local co-op, jam out to Grateful Dead, and you'll be loving life. It worked for me.FOOTBEDREI sells the soft footbed (blue writing) in the narrow style (solid black picture of a foot), but they don't make this obvious. My foot is average/wider and the narrow style fit me perfectly. For reference, I have the Gizeh in wide and the Madrid in narrow and both fit me, but I prefer the narrow Madird (and now narrow Arizona). Also, I like the soft footbed more than the traditional harder footbed.SIZEI am an 8.5 / 9 in all other brands, but I am consistently a size 38 in Birkenstock.STRAP MATERIALREI offers the Arizona in both the oiled leather and suede leather. I tried on both and purchased the suede leather. The suede felt like butter - so soft and forgiving. No break-in period needed! The oiled leather was noticeably tougher and would take some time (and band-aids) to break in.I wish REI sold more than just a handful of colors.
Finally I got it right. I'm a narrow 37 soft foodbed with leather or suede straps kind of Birkenstock foot. My first pair of Birkenstocks I ordered a 37 Granada wide soft footbeds. The wide Granadas flopped around on my foerot from side to side but I wore these sandals for 2 years because I didn't realize I could find a better fit. Then I ordered a pair of narrow 37 Arizonas with the regular footbed and electric pink Birko Flor straps. I missed the soft footbed and the straps got scratch marks easily. I finally won with my 3rd pair. Narrow 37, soft foodbed Arizonas with taupe suede straps. For reference, I wear Asics 7.5 wide athletic shoes. The european size says 39.
I've been wanting to try a pair of Birkenstock's for sometime. Normally, I am a size "7". At REI, I tried both size 37 and 38. The 38 felt too big and I was in the last notch of the buckle. I opted for the size 37. After wearing them around the house for a couple days, they feel too snug in the footbed. They will go back. I think that I'm between sizes and they are just not going to work for me.
The description claims “The Arizona features an A-B width, which is the more narrow last from Birkenstock, but is equivalent to a regular width by industry standards.”This is simply not true. The Arizona normally comes in the “wide” Birkenstock width; narrow is *not* the default.Their statement, which proposes the narrow as the new default, only adds to the tall skinny athletic outdoor woman stereotype of the outdoor industry. This is disappointing. I’m quite close to the outdoor athletic climber stereotype, and I even have average to narrow feet, but this narrow is too narrow.I love REI (I give them soo much $$). The is a mistake that could be easily corrected by properly labeling the item, updating the specs, and removing the inaccurate statement. ... MoreThe description claims “The Arizona features an A-B width, which is the more narrow last from Birkenstock, but is equivalent to a regular width by industry standards.”This is simply not true. Unfortunately, I will not be able continue this particular transaction with REI by exchanging the narrow fit Birkenstocks for the regular width as REI does not offer them them. REI, why don’t you offer the regular width, why aren’t you catering to a more diverse clientele? C’mon REI. I expect better.
This is my first pair and I'm anxiously anticipating when they are broken in. I usually buy a cushy type of sandal/shoe but keep coming back to these for the cute style. It's the exact look I wanted I almost purchased Dansko sandals that look like Birks but are a cushier footbed. In the end, I preferred the color in the Birkenstock. I chose the mocha with the rose gold buckles. These will be my go to sandals this summer so I hope I chose right. I'll give 5 stars because I know they are quality but I'm still unsure how supportive or comfortable they will be wearing all day. Wish me luck!! Happy Birthday to me!! Btw, I'm 58. Old feet!! I wear size 8 or 39.
PLEASE SYNC YOUR SIZING AND DESCRIPTION WITH BIRKENSTOCK website and packaging!! It's confusing. I wasted my dividend buying something I thought was "Regular" width but all REI offers is "Narrow". Arizona sandals are unisex - both men and women buy them. (Ditto for all Birkenstocks, although some styles are more likely to be purchased by women or men.) They're sized EU 35-46, and they come in "Narrow" (filled in footprint) or "Regular" (open footprint) width. It is NOT true that Narrow is good for everyone who wears a B width, as your website says. I wear a B and I own many pairs of Birkenstocks, all Regular width. To be fair, the description of this sandal does sort of say in the fine print that it's narrow, but I missed it, and some other styles carried by REI ... MorePLEASE SYNC YOUR SIZING AND DESCRIPTION WITH BIRKENSTOCK website and packaging!! I agree with other reviews of the Birkenstocks -- they run a smidgeon long -- about a half size or so. I'm a 9 or 9.5 and the 40 is my size, but on the verge of being too long. The narrow width is also right for me and all my friends who have this. I have a high arch and they work well, and other friends who have flatter feet just adjust the straps differently.I would warn that the suede tops curl after a while, so if you have them cinched to the tightest notch you will have more curled leather at the end. The oiled leather ones are much less prone to have the straps curl (but they are a bit longer to break in). I have both, and find I wear my black leather ones out and about and the suede ones for scuffing around because they look a bit more slipper-ish. But that's just me.Oh and be really grateful that REI sells the soft footbed version... you really want that one... if you are getting these for comfort (as well as style) definitely make sure you are getting the soft footbed. And if you're a newbie to Birkenstocks... be careful of a couple of things: The shoes with the blue writing on the inner sole are the ones with the soft footbed, and the ones that have the outline of a foot that is solid are the narrow width (really a regular width for Americans) -- the ones that have the line drawing of the outline of a foot are the wider (medium) width ones. REI sells the soft footbed in the narrow width. Good choices both for most buyers. They are definitely the ones I like best.AND if you are considering buying from elsewhere, and want real leather uppers, be really careful about what you are getting... unless the uppers are either suede or oiled leather, they are made out of partly or fully synthetic material... which not only doesn't look as good after a while, but they break in differently (e.g. Birko Flor/Nubuck)
