My husband and I wanted the Distance FLZ poles. He opted for the Distance Plus FLZ 105-125cm.The Plus FLZ weights similar to the regular Distance FLZ and folds up to similar length (15.5”). The difference is in the baskets it comes with. The Plus FLZ comes with bigger trekking baskets 2.5” vs the regular Distance’s 1.5”, and powder baskets. With its light weight and compact size, he keeps the poles in his pack all the time.

I use a lot of BD products. Jackets, headlamps, cams, skis, ice axes, trekking poles, and packs fill my gear room shelves. I've never had to use a warranty claim because their stuff is quality, and it lasts. With a $150 price tag for these poles I expect more than 15 months of use. I've purchased two sets of these poles. The first set broke after a couple years of use and that was fine, so I bought a second pair. They were used moderately and taken care of. Recently on a backpacking trip both poles broke unexpectedly at the joints between sections so I reached out to BD to see what they would do. Because I was past the 1 year mark there was no replacement but they offered a 40% off coupon. I love the z-pole design but they're just very durable. I had both poles break within one week of each other. Both broth on the metal section near the top of the locking mechanism. This was only after one season of use. Yes, I use them a lot but I feel like the product should have lasted longer given the price. Given that BOTH poles broke at nearly the same location makes me think there was a design or material flaw. Unfortunately, it was out of the terms of warranty so no luck in getting a replacement.

These poles are superb and fully meet all my requirements. They fold up small enough to fit in my backpack or short trip case. They are easy to snap together and adjust to my height and provide excellent security whilst walking particularly uphills.
I purchased these poles to help relieve strain on my knees while hiking / trailrunning. I’m a carbon fiber believer but chose the aluminum based off other reviews. One trip up and down Lone Peak made me a total believer. My triceps were sore the next day, and my knees felt great. The poles collapse down to a small enough package to be easily added to a small pack. I was using a running vest for this jaunt and found these poles could be attached easily to the outside. I hardly noticed they were there. Rubber tips are included for summer and they should double well as a backcountry pole. The poles stood up to considerable punishment as I descended the peak and I would say they are built well. Kudos to the engineering team that developed these tools.
purchased before covid and they lasted great through several hikes. Did no hike much through covid so they sat on a shelf n storage. First hike after covid the elastic broke disconnecting the last segment on 1 pole. Tried to contact customer support to see if repair was possible and heard not a word from customer support. Prior set of poles from black diamond have had great durability. Very disappointed that these only lasted for less 300 miles of hiking.
I loved these poles! I bought three pair (two for my use and one for my son). The last pair after one year of use an upper pole sleeve has been retracted into the upper sleeve and will not lock in. I read that same problem occurs to other customer too. Furthermore, I immediately found another defect. Humidity always stains the hands of gray color (production problem connected to the fixing of the paint). Now I have to buy another couple of poles and I have a big problem. What should I do?
I wasn’t sure about the Z Poles but once I unpacked them and snapped them together I was impressed with the quality! Only been on one hike so far. They worked flawlessly. They even survived my 7yo “using” them.Quality poles, quick to assemble, easy to break down, light weight, and compact size for storage. Perfect for my requirements. Great job as always Black Diamond!
These are a second pair of Z poles. BD has greatly improved the locking mechanism. The swing weight is pretty good. I used to always get carbon for the weight savings, but too many of those broke. The one improvement I could see is to provide an ergonomic bend to the handle. Otherwise these rock.
I bought these poles in March '21 & a strop broke 6 months later, at which time I learned that BD does not have a replacement! Before I learned that, I bought what an REI customer service agent said was a replacement strap, but then learned was not. A salesperson at REI, where I bought the poles, spent 40 minutes trying to retrofit the strap, but couldn't attach it properly to the handle. Having an unusable pair of poles, i contacted BD, requesting a credit toward anotha set of sturdier poles, for which I was willing to pay the difference in price. A BD agent concluded the broken, non-replaceable strap "was not a defect" (direct quote) and, therefore, the now-useless poles couldn't be replaced. I'm nII'm now our #150, without useable trekking poles!
