I, like many of us, started climbing with Friction Labs, but found it to be too expensive and not that long-lasting. I switched to Black Diamond hoping to find a better alternative. I find this chalk to be very long-lasting and much more affordable. Now, all I use is Black Diamond and I always get complements when I share my chalk with other climbers. I have loved this stuff for years and don't plan on changing any time soon.

Chalk feel is personal preference but I feel that my hands are drier/readier to go when I use the white gold. I got Friction Labs Gorilla Chunky chalk as a gift recently and my hands feel kind of slippery right when i chalk up, even though afterwards they dry well ... For the price though, White Gold has the highest performance:value. Love it, and bought some more even though I havent run out of friction labs ...for reference I have sweatier hands than average id day and definitely feel the need to use Rhino Dry during the warmer seasons

It has a small chunks, and turns it into a fine powder when you crush them.Chalks really depends on the personal preference and the situation. This chalk seems like it has good quality, and it does make my hand really dry. However, I find it a bit expensive, and I prefer the Friction Labs more than this chalk. It is really nice of BD to make a 30g size, allowing us to test it in a small portion.I prefer you test it before buying a 300g.It might be a good option to blend this with other chalks, I need to test it out.

Only complaint is the bag is not easy to reseal.I haven’t exhaustively tried every chalk out there, but I’ve tried a few and haven’t felt like the more expensive ones were noticeably better. (I’m climbing 5.12 and have sweaty hands). The best way to climb harder is to climb a little more, but if you’re set on buying your way there, get some high-end downturned shoes instead of worrying about chalk brands.
Just ran out of this today and had to grab some of cheap brown bag brand most gyms sell, and it made me really appreciate the BD chalk. Has a smooth consistency without being overly fine. Breaks up easily. Really good grip for common chalk.
The thin profile of this belt is great for slipping under a harness while climbing. It’s fantastic if you will be in and out of your climbing gear for a couple hours. However, when it doesn’t have a harness over it, the tail can slip out of your belt loops easily and become annoying due to the thin, light profile. Wouldn’t recommend it for everyday use. Seems durable enough to last a long time.
Probably the best of the cheapish chalk brands. Is friction labs better? Maybe marginally, maybe placebo, but either way not 3x the price better than this stuff. In the same price range, metolius has too many harsh additives for my skin, and flashed absorbs too much atmospheric moisture and becomes useless after the bag has been cracked for more than a week.
BD chalk is great. Some chalk out there is too fine and I find it to be slippery. The White Gold is classic chalk and isn't slippery IMO. I like the little chunks in the chalk. I don't like purely powder chalk.
I agree with the below review that it depends on your preference/skin. This chalk isn't the cheapest option, but I tried it and really ended up liking it. Actually, I like it more than friction labs unicorn. I do not have super sweaty or dry hands, but my skin can get glossy/smooth especially if I'm using a lot of alcohol based chalk or hand sanitizer. If you are on the line, try a sample or buy a smaller package to start off with!
I was not very impressed with this chalk. I am new to climbing so this is only the second brand of chalk that I have every tried. The first brand was a cheap starter chalk that came in a resuable sock. I was very satisified with it. Once I ran out I figured that getting black diamond chalk wold be an upgrade. I was wrong.Pros-Coats your hand very easily. This makes it great for a quick re-chalking when you are midroute.-The chunks are mostly intact and are of a good size. I like to alternate between using a sock and just putting this right into my bag. The chunks made it easy to refill both without making a big mess.- It does a decent job wicking away moisture.-A lot of chalk for the price.Cons-Does not stay on my hands very long. I need to reapply ... MoreI was not very impressed with this chalk. I am new to climbing so this is only the second brand of chalk that I have every tried. I need to reapply more than I did with my previous chalk.-The chalk isn't very "sticky". My other chalk I used seem to make my fingers cling to holds like I'm spiderman. This chalk almost makes holds feel more slippery.
