Great book, very enjoyable read. Maybe not as good as The Talisman but I love Stephen King so I'm definitely biased! I couldn't put the book down, very intense all the way through it. Highly recommend this book.
I originally had purchased "The Tailsman" by Peter Straub and Stephen King not knowing it was a set. When I purchased the "Black House" I didn't read the blurb as I love anything Stephen King, so when it arrived after reading the first paragraph on the back I WAS EXCITED!! I thought the Tailsman was so well written, suspenseful and as usual, the imagination of Stephen King never let me down! Stephen King and Peter Straub make a brilliant team, you become invested in the characters and the storyline with every page turn! HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOTH BOOKS, Fingers and toes crossed... There will be a third!
Jack Sawyer is now an adult, a homicide detective who can't remember the journey he did as a child to save his mother. He is called into a small town by friends, to help solve a string of murders that cannot be solved by local police. A excellent set of new characters, and a good setting, but not quite as good as the first novel. More emphasis on description, it makes you feel like you know the characters, but can sometimes stagnate the movement of the story. You need to read 'The Talisman' to know what they're talking about in this novel.
You have to read the 1st book The Talisman (1984) first and this is the 2nd book to that one. I have said to people King is a great writer but when it comes to writing a follow up to a book. Better off not writing them. This was written 15+ years later than the first one. This book has jack older which is fine but has no flow and seems like he just typed 600+ words to get a book out. To many other great works of his to read.
