Despite reading a negative review, I went ahead and bought this pen anyway, I chose a fine nib. I have to say I'm absolutely delighted with it. It is a brilliant pen.The nib performance is exactly the same as with the regular black Lamy 2000. I can't fault it, it writes perfectly, starts first time every time even after sitting with the cap on for many days. And when used with Caran d'Ache Cosmic Black ink and Oxford Optik paper, there's absolutely no spreading, no feathering, and no skipping. The line comes out the thickness of the nib, no more and no less. (I guess being stainless steel, it might look odd if it did.)The Lamy 2000 nib writes beautifully, but does have a rather narrow sweet spot, so you might need to practice a little to get the writing angle just right. Also, it takes a while to get used to the metal bumps which are just about in the same place that your fingers want to hold the barrel of the pen.Filling is done by rotating an almost invisible cap at the top end of the pen. Once filled, the reservoir lasts ages.Finally, just to mention that the pen comes in a huge presentation box. Very nice, but feels wasteful if you're only buying the pen for yourself.

The brushed metal grip is comfortable for me. The piston filler is smooth and works well, and the cap really does keep the pen wet longer than you'd expect. I write fiction, and it's hard to pick a better long-session writer.

The Lamy 2000 deserves all the accolades it collects. This is a classic in appearance, form and function. This timeless beauty can be used with confidence anywhere, be it at home, on the road or in the office. Just make sure someone doesn't wander off with it "by mistake" after sampling it. The build quality is incredible and its smooth-writing performance is on par with my Custom 823. I had heard about some having trouble adjusting to the nib's sweet spot, but it required no adjustment for me. Addictive Writing Experience

This pen is an astonishingly good writer, when writing the way it is supposed to. Be aware, this pen DOES have a sweet spot! Due to the way Lamy grinds these nibs, if you have the pen rotated in your hand too far to either side, it will not write at all. However, despite that, with just a couple days of practice I find that I almost never got a false start from having it in the wrong position. Writing with this pen for several months now, I do not even notice that the sweet spot is there. Your hand will learn to naturally find the spot every single time. And once you find that sweet spot, oh how sweet it is. I find myself reaching for this pen about 90% of the time. I was surprised by the hand feel of this pen. From viewing the pictures, and seeing the pattern they sand into this, I expected it to be a little more tactile, but it absolutely baby bottom smooth (not the nib though. No baby's bottom there!). The seam from the black polycarbonate body to the stainless steel grip section is completely indiscernible to my hand, as is the seam on the back of the pen for the filling mechanism. In fact, the seam on the back of the pen is completely indiscernible to the naked eye. At $220, this is not the cheapest gold nib pen you can get, but it is on the lower end of that product price line. For that $220 you can a pen that is 10 times the quality and value of many more expensive options. If you do not own a gold nib pen, this is the one for your first. If you DO own a gold nib pen, get this one too. If you only ever buy ONE pen, make it this one!

Believe the hype!

I've been fascinated with the design of the 2000 since the beginning of my interest in pens. I've had a ballpoint for a while, but the cost of the fountain pen version seemed hard to justify. I finally sprang for it and I couldn't be happier. Fit and finish is exceptional, the piston is very smooth, and it has the most satisfying capping/posting feel I've experienced. My fine nib is very smooth and I haven't experienced a single skip or dry start. It's the perfect nib for my daily writing: wet enough for a pleasant experience but not a firehose, and a comfortable line width for 5mm dot grid. I find the unibody grip extremely comfortable, and the deep posting gives it excellent balance in the hand. Good pen, frustrating nib

I have had this pen about a year now, and generally like it a lot. I have an extra fine nib. The pen works beautifully and as advertised, writing smooth as silk.What I don’t like is that the extra fine on the lamy 2000 Writes like a medium to Broad nib on a pilot or twsbi pen. I also have a lamy studio, which writes more like a fine but not as broad as the 2000 EF nib. I commonly Rotate the pen so that it is writing on the top of the nib versus on the nib 'plate' and that works for a little while until it runs dry, then I rotate the pin to write at the correct angle. Great, but serious burping issue

The pen smooth to write with, very clean design, quick to use, and would have been perfect for everyday carry and use... If it didn't burp so much. I had two; one inked with Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji (red) and the other with Iroshizuku Takesumi (black). The red was smoother than the black pen, but at some point it started burping a lot and left a mess inside the cap. The black burped quite a bit too, but the mess wasn't as bad as the red. I couldn't trust that I could I carry the pens with me everywhere without leaving a mess in my jacket, bag, or whatever since they did not have a screw-on cap, so I had to retire them from EDC use. They were too wet for journal and short story use, and once I bought the Pilot Custom 823 they were completely retired from use for me. I put off purchasing this pen because of all the bad reviews about a sweet spot. My pen has no discernable sweet spot and writes fantastic. While I enjoy the look of a traditional nib it is the only thing I can say about this pen that isn't exactly what I am looking for. Well balanced with a snap cap that works well posted or not, quick notes I can pull the cap off and hold it in my other hand but for longer writing sessions I will post it. Initial feel is the pen is super durable, which is great since it is my do it all pen. I like smooth nibs and enjoy piston fillers because with a fine nib I can tend to get a week of normal use at work for notes unless I have a longer than normal journaling session that week. It's Growing on Me....

Bottom-line is that this is an excellent pen. It has taken me a couple weeks to become more comfortable with using it due to the nib (EF) being exacting in how it best operates, and not having a lip or other reference point for holding the pen when writing. However, I have become accustomed to it and love the way it writes. The EF nib is a Medium if comparing to, say, TWSBI nibs but it writes very smoothly. It fills and cleans easily and I've had no problems. The aesthetic is minimalist, as we know, and honestly it's a bit homely IMO but I really wanted it because of its universal acclaim and design heritage. I would recommend this pen to anyone with the qualifier that it takes a bit of effort to become comfortable with it. I'm now comfortable with it!

Juicy Mid-Century Modern Icon

Wow, I knew I'd be using my LAMY 2000 quite a bit after receiving it, but I didn't think I'd be using it THIS much. I can't put it down. It's a super-juicy medium nib, and really lays down a big, bold line. Iroshizuku Kon-Peki looks awesome with it! I can't wait to try Noodler's Southwest Sunset. It really feels amazing to write with. The way that the barrel and section come together makes it feel great in the hand. And the applied texture adds to the grip. I tend to favor colorful pens, and I thought that the solid black would be too boring, but holding it and looking at it makes me realize just how beautiful simplicity and minimal design can be.
