A very powerful device proving to be key for the live streaming we do. Very easy to setup and showing to be completely stable in the events it’s been used for so far (averaging between 1hrs - 3hrs each session streamed live to YouTube).Sturdy build and all buttons showing to be very responsive. Well laid out software included that is easily customisable and stable. It’s great that all Video/Audio inputs are recorded as individual channels within a DaVinci project making it very easy to edit afterwards if needed.Only negative is it doesn’t have an on/off switch so was to be unplugged to power off. Ours is part of a rig that are all connected to a multi socket supply that controls power going to all the devices so that doesn’t really affect us.Will definitely be ... MoreA very powerful device proving to be key for the live streaming we do. When it works, it works great, but occasionally it just doesn't. I do live streams via the USB-C output to a Windows machine. I have a monitor attached to the monitor out on the ATEM to get a status/preview and it works well, but maybe 1 out of 20 times when I go to start the stream from my computer, the USB-C output is just broken. I'll get no video, or glitchy video (audio is ok), and I need to pull the power and restart the device to fix it, causing my streams to be late. Unreliable is not a feature I want for my live streaming needs, I am currently looking for alternative hardware if anyone has suggestions. Also, something is off with the build quality, the internal fan appears to be loose and is very loud and rattles. First off, I would like to say that this is the very first Blackmagic Design product I have purchased and used. I was pleasantlysurprised on just how quick and easy it was to go from zero to streaming, albeit at a very basic level initially. It did not take long to figure out how to do some quick chroma keying and overlays. Then, as with anything you figure out the additional needs. Before listing them, I want to be clear, I have no complaints or dropping of the rating because of the needs, at its price point it has 100% value.I had three particular needs to tie everything I required together. This will very for everyone depending on your setups. This will very for everyone depending on your setups. First was thefact that I wanted my entire setup to me portable, my PC, TV and MacBook were already wireless, so without adding a switch and sharing internet, I just grabbed a wi-fi extender and plugged it in, followed by an easy setup. It streams flawlessly at high level. Secondly the ATEM and the TV, neither have headphone out. Easy fix was an HDMI audio extractor in line. Lastly, I wanted to run some condenser mics, but they required phantom power. That was an easy fix as well, added some in line phantom power modules. I have included pictures of all three solutions. Again, this is in my scenario, and there are many alternative ways to achieve the same or similar results.I have barely scratched the surface of what the ATEM Mini Pro ISO can do so far. I can tell macros will be one of my best friends. Andfor what little I played in Resolve with one of the recordings for it, I can tell I am going to be a Blackmagic Design junkie as I continue to grow my studio. As long as you are looking at this for what it is. It doesn’t have $ 10K live chroma keyer built in. It doesn’t run motion graphics from itself (you can if you are creative with the inputs from other sources). Youneed to have a PC or Mac running to use all of its functionality as there are limited buttons on the unit itself. And you have to physically plug/unplug the unit because there is no power switch. You will be pleasantly surprised and happy with your purchase.

While I already own one of the same kind, I bought another unit few days ago for another setup. However, while the old unit is working nicely to record ISO files for more than a year, I noticed a big problem in the new one I got. The ISO recordings were corrupted intermittently every few minutes. My video editor got hiccup so miserably. Then when I used my old unit, it does not have any issue. So, I have a serious question on the reliability of the Blackmagic ATEM switches. I returned my unit today. Actually, seriously, because of these I am looking for some other brand even more costly.
There is no headphone jack for you to listen to your audio inputs (mic 1, 2) on the ATEM mini. There is also no visual audio meter for you to reference when setting the audio levels, like a decibel meter. There are buttons to increase and decrease volumes, but no visual meter to tell you how loud your inputs are (i.e. a decibel meter that tells you if your audio levels are being sent at -12db, -6db or +3 db). This means that all of the audio has to be done in the computer software, which I don't like. It creates a disconnected workflow because you can't do both your video and audio feed all on the ATEM Mini - you have to do the audio on your computer. There is also no way to connect an external hard drive to record your ISO footage if you also want to connect your ... MoreThere is no headphone jack for you to listen to your audio inputs (mic 1, 2) on the ATEM mini. To record your ISO footage (the main selling point of the ATEM Mini Pro ISO) you have to connect the ATEM Mini to your WiFi network and then connect it to your computer wireless, and only then is the single USB port freed up to connect an external hard drive to record your ISO channels.
The process of getting this thing up and running was not without turbulence. I was not able to get the OWC Envoy Pro 1TB SSD to work with this, despite being on the compatible drives list from Black magic. However, the OWC Envoy Elektron 2TB SSD did work. Mysterious.Secondly, and this isn't the ATEM's fault, but more of an FYI for you: I struggled to get a split signal from a computer out to the ATEM and a TV (through an HDMI splitter). Turns out you either need to output from a PC or need one that bypasses HDCP if using a Mac. Again, this is not the ATEM's fault, but hopefully it saves you some heartburn and time figuring it out.Overall it has worked perfectly well after getting the bugs worked out. HDMI ports on these units frequently fail. In the past year, I have owned an ATEM Mini, two Pros, an ISO, and an Extreme ISO. Of these 5 units, 4 had HDMI input ports fail. Randomly, in the middle of production, a port will fail. Source goes black, and it never works again.BlackMagic support is polite enough, but their warranty workflow is unsuited for production environments. One time (of the three units I have sent to them), I spent five weeks waiting for a replacement unit, without an update from the company. When I emailed them to ask about it, reminding them I was trying to produce content for my job and hadn't been able to work in five weeks, they told me it had only been two weeks if you counted in business days.I lost money because I chose this product, ... MoreHDMI ports on these units frequently fail. They make the best promises, but their low prices must give them inadequate manufacturing oversight & inventory for warranty repairs. This creates a situation where, if your unit breaks, nobody cares. Enjoy not working while BlackMagic has your stuff. I'm about to send my fourth unit back to them, and just... oof. Dreading the money I'm about to lose because I can't find a switcher that actually works at a price I can afford.
First, let me Begin by telling you how I am using this product. I have a YouTube cooking channel that I star in and film by myself. I use it with three black magic design pocket 6K cameras and an external monitor. I connect a Samsung t5 SSD drive to the unit as well. For my audio, I am using a pre3 sound devices recorder. My first complaint, is that the audio time code does not sync exactly with the audio I record on the mix pre 3. It is very frustrating to line everything up in post. My second complaint is that when I finally get the audio time code to sync with my raw footage, and I am filming in blackmagic raw, the audio does not line up with the ISO files, that are recorded on my SSD drive, which I use to save myself the hassle of generating proxies in Adobe ... MoreFirst, let me Begin by telling you how I am using this product. My second complaint is that when I finally get the audio time code to sync with my raw footage, and I am filming in blackmagic raw, the audio does not line up with the ISO files, that are recorded on my SSD drive, which I use to save myself the hassle of generating proxies in Adobe premiere. My third complaint, is that every once in a while randomly, one of the cameras is not triggered to record by the device. I am never comfortable to hit record and not walk around to the other side of my studio to make sure that all three cameras are actually recording. Even though the light on the front of my cameras turns yellow, the main camera light is always red so I don't know if that's recording or not it's like a gamble. My fourth complaint is that it never keeps all the settings from your previous session. It does remember the file name that you assign to the project, but it always resets the white balance for all of the cameras to 5600k. If I forget to go in and reload my profile, it will always revert to 5600k and that's not what I shoot at natively. I have filmed hours of footage and had to change the white balance on all of my cameras because of a simple mistake. And finally, my last complaint is I brought all of this to the attention of black magic design, and it seems like they have their hands full ith other things and have done nothing to address this. I've owned this unit for well over 6 months, and the only reason why I use it is so that I can see the cameras on my monitor.
I have purchased this switcher when it came out and HDMI output for multiview has failed after the warranty ran out. I've shipped the unit to Blackmagic for a repair estimate and they said we can't service it because the unit is too cheap and it would be pointless. No other recourse, even though I had paid $895 for it. The technician said One year warranty is long enough for you to recoup your investment and left it at that.Don't make the same mistake. Unless you're okay with a 1 year device, go ahead and purchase it. Blackmagic will not fix it out of warranty. They also take several weeks to get back to you.
This switcher is brilliant. The fact that it does nearly everything you need a switcher to do, plus creates Resolve edit files makes it completely revolutionary. After a shoot, I open the file and can start tweaking the live switch. Everything is lined up and ready to cut. I really can't believe these are as inexpensive as they are. My only issue (and this is not an issue on our particular environment) is the fact that it only has one output that you can switch between viewing the individual inputs, the program our, or the multi-view screen. You cant use the multi-view and also output a master program feed. It does record a switched master in addition to all Iso, and it can stream a master file over ethernet, but a dedicated program output would make this switcher ... MoreThis switcher is brilliant.
