The most compact model of HyperDeck Studio is based on the Teranex Mini form factor. This modular design means that you can use a Teranex Mini Rack Shelf to rack mount 3 HyperDeck Studio HD Minis in a single rack unit, or you can combine them with other products such as switchers, converters or streaming processors. It might be small, but you still get powerful features, such as 3G-SDI in and out, HDMI output, dual SD card media slots, built in sync and timecode generators, front panel controls and both AC and DC power inputs. You can even connect the USB to a computer as HyperDeck Studio HD Mini works like a webcam so you can use any video software! The World's Most Advanced Broadcast Decks! The advanced design of the HyperDeck Studio family puts the powerful features of a professional grade deck into a compact size that's only 1 rack unit high. This incredible miniaturization is made possible because HyperDeck Studio records onto inexpensive, commonly available SD cards or UHS-II cards, which are a fraction of the size of professional media used in the past. The full rack width Pro models even add dual SSD slots in addition to the SD cards, so you get 4 media slots in total! The small size, combined with dual recorders, professional connections and familiar VTR style controls let you use HyperDeck Studio in ways that are simply impossible with a larger deck!

I have tested 3 units. None of them will carry a clean audio signal over SDI unless it is connected to another BMD device. I have tested this unit on multiple known working monitors and devices. All of them failed to cleanly decode the audio. I ran this through a BMD SDI to HDMI converter and a BMD SDI de-embedder and the audio plays fine. BMD support was not able to help me with this issue. I hope it is something that they can clean up with a firmware update. I have been running my 3rd unit for a week through a de-embedder and it has been working fine. It does already have a significant amount of screen burn. I wish there was a screen saver option.

The Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio Mini is a very good digital video recorder. The SDXC recording media used by this recorder is readily available and affordable. The HyperDeck Studio Mini is very easy to install and operate. The built-in video display helps to verify the video picture quality. I would give the video recorder five stars if it included a headphone output. I always like to very the audio quality with headphones during a recording.

This is a broadcast device, hence why its a mission critical device for us. At the moment (with firmware 6.0) is not reliable. Neither with the recommended cards. Sometimes the recorded files are perfect. Sometimes you've got a black (or broken?) video signal, but audio is perfect. And the worst thing is you'll see this after the event, because on the small LCD display everything looks fine. This isn't acceptable for a broadcast device, hence why is no go. 0 out of 5.

I have purchased two of these units for church and paid gigs. Over all I'm pleased with them. It is nearly impossible to find anything for the price point. I use one for recording and one for playback. I bought the two units within a few weeks of each other, but the screen on the second on is not as bright as the first. Recoding works great! Playback is more sensitive as you have to make sure all files are the same format. This is the reason I did not give them 5 stars.
I like this product a lot. So I bought 2 of them. it works so well with the ATEMs by black magic cueing video without skipping a beat. I like that it has POE+ so I don't have to plug it into the wall. What I will say is a problem with this thing or just kind of a drag it is to make sure that whatever is on your SD card is the exact same frame rate, resolution and file type or they will not work on the same card. So you do need to plan ahead and take the time to convert videos in exactly the same way or it will only read one file type and not the others. The other drawback is that it had kind of a useless USB-C port in the back that doesn't really do anything that the ethernet cord couldn't do. I really think they added the USB-C port as a marketing gimmick because it is only for firmware updates or some other waste of space. One thing you need is to get some of the better SD cards I really like the ones from Lexar with the silver label they are fast and reliable but for 256gb they are like 60 dollars which is only necessary if you plan on cueing lots of different videos on one card. Otherwise for recoding just get 2 124gb cards and swap them with the infinite recording feature where you can start a recording on one card and the recording will continue on the other SD card slot without skipping a frame.Last drawback, it has a top secret way of rewinding and fast forward. You have to press the JOG button 2 times and then you can't run the wheal but it is not fast forward it is more about the a chain of the playback speed for fast forward is really just 16x forward and rewind at the max is 16x back. I just wish there were dedicated buttons for this, but I am not really an AV pro so I could understand why it is nor really necessary for a device like this. That is assuming that you will have time to prep what you are going before hand instead of messing the FF and RW.Last thing that I really like about this if you have time you can just transfer files using FTP but I don't think it is that fast but it is nice not to have to take out and SD card every time you would like to play a file.
The Hyperdeck Studio Mini, is a great all around product. With many different codecs to accept and record from this unit is pretty versatile. We love that it has an output to simultaneously send a feed out while recording. Its build quality is strong and connections well fastened. But I believe this unit must be connected to a power rack (or strip) to consistently operate. We unplugged our unit by the cord too many times and caused it to have a power failure. We needed to purchase a replacement for it.
The Hyperdeck Studio Mini recorder is a solid and flexible record and playback deck for all levels of production. It can be controlled remotely via the Blackmagic Design ATEM 1 or 2 M/E broadcast panels with an ATEM switcher as well as with the ATEM software running on a Mac or PC. It can also play out a video with an alpha channel, so if you have keyed graphics that you want to play for a live show, you can record them on an SD card and play them via the Studio Mini. However, beware SD media... there are relatively few options (only 1 Lexar card and couple of SanDisk cards) that are currently recommended for the recorder. Curiously, the SanDisk 128GB Extreme Pro 95MB/s card is not recommended, but both the 64MB and 32MB cards are while the much Lexar 150MB/s is ... MoreThe Hyperdeck Studio Mini recorder is a solid and flexible record and playback deck for all levels of production. I bought this to work with an ATEM Mini Pro because the ATEM has only a single media player and it can only hold still images in the media pool. I wanted the ability to have moving content as either the upstream (or a moving background in chroma keying) or downstream (for animated lower thirds) keying. This works just as I had hoped and provides both capabilities. It’s a great feature augmentation to an ATEM switcher.
We use our HyperDeck Mini to record from our Black Magic Web Presenter before sending a Live Stream to YouTube Live.We have Cloud Storage to archive our Live Streams but when the Internet is down or it's slow the value of Cloud Storage approaches zero.We need reliable, physical storage to complement our Cloud Storage and the HyperDeck Mini is just perfect for that application.
In the past, we have used plenty of these, but the past year or so the quality has seriously divebombed. We ordered one to replace one of ours that died (several years old). The deck quickly malfunctioned on the first use. It stopped recording in the middle of a show, and then would not recognize any SD cards. We returned in for a replacement. The replacement did the same thing. We returned it for a replacement. I just received the replacement and went to plug it in so I could update the software, name the deck. Won't even power on. I hear that Blackmagic changed manufacturers or something. Horrible product right now.
