I'm using the UltraStudio to Transfer Video Cassettes to digital via BM's Media Express. The Teranex Smart Panel gives a mini display of the input video plus audio meters (no audio sound). The knob and buttons on the panel have no function. All the panel does is duplicate what Media Express software shows on the computer screen.

Let's start with what this is NOT. The buttons on the panel do nothing. You can press them all day and nothing happens - no menus, no lights, no functions. We added this panel to our new UltraStudio HD Mini, based on sales info that it "supports the Teranex Mini Smart Panel." What it DOES support is a very tiny little video output monitor with audio levels displayed. But that's all it does. We were hoping that the buttons replicated the settings/functions for the UltraStudio HD Mini that are accessed on the Desktop Video Setup app. Nowhere in the info does it say that is not possible. Perhaps the panel buttons function when mounted on another piece of Blackmagic Design hardware? The info should be more clear on what it does and does not do.

In all fairness, this should have been built into the BlackMagic Web Presenter from the start. This add on is not necessary to use the basic functionality of the presenter, but it's an excellent addition with the options to easily swtich between two sources, confirm you're getting a proper audio & video signal from your sources and more. It could not have been easier to replace the Web Presenter's original front cover with this interactive panel. it's worth the added functionality for sure.

Really a no-brainer companion to a Blackmagic switcher that lacks its own streaming capabilities. The only unfortunate thing is that its maximum broadcast resolution is 720p. Still, with its simplicity and reliability, I would rent it again.
I never hook up my teranex products to a network so I really like the convenience of the smart panel to make quick changes to settings. I get them for everything.
I added this to my BMD UltraStudio HD mini and I love it. Being able to get to the menu and make appropriate selections easily sure is nice. Also, it is nice to be able to monitor the input video and audio levels from my source. Very easy to install and a great enhancement. I highly recommend it.
OK, so this Smart Panel is very nearly a necessity for the Terenex converters. This unit allows the user to make signal setting adjustments locally. In other words, you do not need to use a computer connection to make setting changes. This is most likely important to those who only need one or two Terenex units. The panel becomes less needed in a live truck or very large production house where many units are used, and therefore require remote adjustment via a connection to a computer. Very solid build, however, the screen color looked off compared to my Hyperdeck Studio Mini screen. They don't match. Hmmm.... Still, a very good unit.
Bought a Web Presenter just as the coronavirus shutdown began to help take my church’s public services online. I went ahead and ordered this Teranex Smart Panel thinking it would probably come in handy. So far I love the little monitor screen and the ability to switch sources with physical buttons. Some buttons do seem utterly useless (and the rotary knob), but perhaps another season will reveal some use for these as well.
Nice add-on to the UltraStudio HD mini to add a screen to the device.Note: the buttons do not function when install on the UltraStudio HD mini. Controls for the UltraStudio are all done in software on the host computer. The buttons do work with some of the other Teranex products though so do your research.
Connects in seconds but provides no additional utility. The controls on the front panel are inoperative and serve no function. You get a tiny window showing the video image and an audio level but that’s it. No audio out so you need dual audio out on the playback deck in order to monitor the audio via other connection. Looks cool on edit desk but it’s fools gold.
