If you've never had a cup of French Press coffee, let me tell you what you're missing. It's an uncomplicated, delicious way to enjoy your cup of Joe. This French Press is an excellent value for a great little coffee maker. Don't be intimidated by the word "French" in the title. It was a French invention that is actually rather simply to use. First, this little coffee maker comes with a coffee scoop. This allows you to choose the strength of your coffee. You simply place the grounds into the carafe, pour hot water over the top to your desired amount of cups (this size will yield two average American coffee mugs' worth of coffee), then give them a good stir before placing the lid on. Do not plunge your press all the way down just yet, though. You want to allow the hot water and coffee the chance to dance a bit, between 4 to 7 minutes is pretty ideal, then plunge down the plunger to cover the grounds and pour into your cup. The first thing you'll immediately notice with a good French press is how easy it is to enjoy great tasting coffee. The time it steeps gives it a chance to release the oils of the coffee bean thereby also releasing a better tasting cup than brewed in an electric coffee maker and richer than a pour-over set up which always includes a paper filter which traps some of the flavor the oils produce. This product does a great job of achieving all of the above. As tempting as it may be to re-use coffee grounds, remember they are really only going to be good for one use. Throw them into your compost heap if you don't wish to waste them. One tip about grinding your own coffee, use a coarse grind to really take advantage of your French press. A finer grind sometimes allows little bits of coffee grounds to escape through the mesh of some coffee makers which disrupts the experience. I will say, however, that even with a regular bag of Starbucks coffee picked up from a grocery store already ground, I did not see this problem. The mess on this pot is pretty good about keeping out the undesirable bits and only giving you what you want--great tasting brew. Cleaning most French presses is not super-hard, but also not always simple. To make my life easier, I just toss mine into the the top rack of the dishwasher (yes, this FP is dishwasher-safe) thus avoiding having to bend and maneuver the mesh screen. This can cause warping if handled too aggressively which allows grounds to seep out during the brewing process. The less you try to manipulate the screen, the longer this product is likely to last. I've enjoyed this press for a few weeks now and had zero complications in achieving coffee nirvana. It really does it's job. If you are looking for something to hold the hot coffee in in between cups, I suggest an insulated mug or carafe. That is the downfall of most French presses, but it doesn't mean the challenge cannot be smartly met. I really recommend this product for it's price, durability, and easy operation.

I was impressed by the look of this French Press so I got it in the gold/glass 8-cup size because I know the smaller size will not make a 12 oz cup pour. The quality of the pot is good and will last me a while provided I don't drop it. I like using a French Press that is transparent glass versus one that is not. The only thing missing and not the fault of the pot's design is a french press filter to keep the grinds out of the poured coffee. That's another reason I got the larger pot to not have to deal with the grinds falling into the poured coffee.

Elegant, Simple to Use, Improved Quality
9 February 2022

This afternoon, I purchased my fourth Bodum French Press. I closely inspected the product to see whether--in the years since my last purchase--the potentially dangerous, and ubiquitous defect (a stray wire fragment protruding from the perimeter of each of the metal mesh filters) had been corrected. My concern was not only the potential for pin-prick injuries, but that the fragment might break off and be ingested. I was pleased to find that the perceived defect had been addressed. The product is elegant, reasonably priced, easy to use, easy to clean, produces excellent coffee (coarse ground) and, in my opinion, now is safe to use. Perhaps the transfer of manufacturing to Portugal has resulted in better quality control?]

Good French Press

I decided to upgrade to this Boudin model of French press after my previous, basic Boudin got damaged in a kitchen fire. Ready to use out of the box, it performed well and produced some nice-tasting coffee after brewing for the suggested four minutes. The only disappointment was that I was trying to get a brewer with zero plastic parts. This one does have the expected plastic in the handle and top, while the carafe body is a Pyrex-like treated glass which handles hot liquids well. The girding around the carafe is solid stainless steel. The glossy silver top, however, is plastic made to look like metal—which came as a letdown (can you tell that I hate plastic?). At least the plunger rod and filter is solidly built metal and it works well. Great traditional French Press
13 August 2022

This has been great, so far. Prior to buying this Bodum Chambord French Press I had another model of the same brand. That model is less expensive but had a plastic piece holding the filter in place which ended up slipping off so that the press could no longer be used. I purchased another plastic version of the same brand from another vendor and it had the same plastic piece inside, so I returned it. After doing a lot of research and purchasing another press that had to be returned, I settled on this one. First, it's from Crate and Barrel, which stands by its products. Second, it has a metal piece holding the filter in place. It looks nice but that wasn't my concern when I purchased it. This press makes two large mugs of coffee. This is the best French Press I could find that was both traditional and sturdy. FYI - all French Presses are made of lighter weight glass than coffee pots. You have to be careful. Also, if you want coffee to be hotter, fill the carafe with hot water and let it sit while you are heating the water for the coffee. You can also buy a cozy if you want the keep the coffee hotter. Hope these tips help someone.

I wanted to get one of these for years because my bestie had one and I was always impressed by the flavor of the coffee from being made in one of these. It is almost frothier to me. Well, I finally got one and I love it. I always thought it was super complicated to use but it is easy and super fast. I found the best way is to boil some water let it cool for 30 secs. Add your coffee to the bottom of your press and fill it with 1/4 of the water and stir it. Let it sit for another 30 secs then add the rest of your water but leave room at the top for the press/lid. I put the lid on and let it sit for 4 mins then press it. It is that easy. And it will be the most amazing cup of coffee ever. I used to have a single cup brewer and when it finally broke i went back to a coffee pot and cant believe i ever had a single cup brewer because i was missing something with the taste of coffee. I still use my coffee pot during the mornings but love this for when i have time to sit and enjoy a great cup of coffee.

Pretty But Not Durable
22 April 2023

Daily use put this cheap French press in the trash in just over 30 days. It is pretty but not built to last. The handle and inside strainer are also plastic. I bought this because it looked plastic-free. It's not! The press started to get jammed after about two weeks, and now it's impossible to push down. the filter keeps falling off. the glass used to be secure in the frame but now it slips out so I have to be very very careful when pouring my coffee not to just drop the full glass of hot coffee onto the counter. spend your money on something better!

Replacing my Old One…
10 January 2023

My Bodum French Press I've used almost daily for 15 years got knocked of my counter (by me!) and broke into a thousand shards of sharp glass. I brew loose leaf tea or shredded cacao beans in a French Press often and had to get a new one. I searched for another Bodum brand press, but I guess they don't make that same one anymore. Plain. straight sided, flat bottom, firm-fitting lid and insert. I got the Bodum 32 oz Chambord because most of the others are mega-modern and I don't like the style...Sadly, the 4 or 5 times I've used it, it has leaked and it doesn't pour well. Not sitting flat on the counter, it sits on raised feet, part if its attached metal frame. It makes it wobbly. I wouldn't buy this one again.

This is the way coffee should taste
23 April 2022

I have had so many people over the year rave about their French press and how it was so much better than drip coffee or K cups. I have used K cups for a long time, at least 10 years and love the ease of use and thought French press coffee was more hype than anything. I was totally wrong about the last part. It seems intimidating at first to use this because it requires a bit of attention to details. You need to get your water up to the right temp, coffee needs to be coarse bagged or ground yourself from whole beans, and you need to do a bit of math to get the right water to bean ratio. If that scares you don't be, it's not that hard and it took me 2 - 3 uses to really get the hang of it. If that scares you don't be, it's not that hard and it took me 2 - 3 uses to really get the hang of it. The process has several steps but the results are out of this world, the coffee tastes so clean, so delicious, and after many uses I still haven't dumped a bunch of coffee grounds into my cup so don't worry about that either. Making coffee by hand like this feels like a luxury but it really only takes 15 minutes from starting to heat up your water to pouring your first cup. I love this model is large so I can make a few cups at a time and enjoy it. This 12 cup french press is high quality and easy to use and comes with a measuring tablespoon for your coffee grounds. Follow the instructions that it comes with and then start looking online for variations on how to prepare it. You'll find it's not very challenging and the results are second to none, blows away anything from Starbucks or Dunkin and makes K cups seem like hotel coffee, this is a true delight.
