Bluetooth is apparently used to communicate with and control the primary speaker in a group, so I remained within 10 to 15 feet of it at all times. Some speakers could become "Not Available" at any time. At start up, this meant that you were simply not going to be able to use them. During group play it meant that they were out of control. "Something went wrong. C3" was also a frequent one-size-fits-all error message that would pop up at any time. I get the impression that Bose is desperately trying to play catch up with its competitor, Sonos, which has been in the wifi speaker business for 20 or more years, and they rushed the Smart and Home speakers to market without completing app software development. After 4 or 5 days of 3 or 4 hours each day trying to debug this problem through product restarts, repeated set-ups, firmware updates, reloading the app numerous times on my iPhone, etc. I am throwing in the towel and returning them. I have an engineering background and still found all of this frustrating and disappointing, and unnecessarily time consuming. I can only imagine the infuriation of a consumer without technical know-how trying to make these things work as advertised. I would suggest trying Sonos instead.

It's also 360degree sound, so ideal for putting in the living room window to enjoy both in the house and the garden.I have come to the conclusion that it is more than just a decent speaker. Remember the huge HiFI systems people had in the 80's that could play cassette's, vinyls and the radio that took up the corner of the living room ? I've decided this is the modern day equivalent, because it can play your music from wherever you have it.

I think it took about three minutes to set up everything including connecting to my Amazon Music account. One feature of the app is that you can access Spotify and TuneIn radio right off the bat. TuneIn radio was interesting because I found local radio stations I hadn't tried before and they were right there available at my fingertips through the app.The app didn't have an equalizer for the speaker, but it has audio settings for bass and treble. This is important to me because I like to mess around with the music to make it perfect. Unnecessary for some because the speaker has a fantastic quality for such a compact speaker. The audio is crystal clear and you'll hear great quality straight out of the box. I had it on a dubschestral station and I could hear it about 25 feet from where it sat in the kitchen. I chose Google assistant but you also have the option for Alexa too and it's easy to switch between the two if you don't have a preference or want to use both from time to time. Google assistant and Alexa could hear my voice even when music was playing or when my family chatted loudly in the background.There were a few cons that I had with the speaker. It might be nothing for others, but I noticed that during really loud music you have to increase your voice level to be heard sometimes. If I ask repeated questions the smart assistants didnât always catch it in time so you have to repeat yourself again but that's more of a thing with the smart assistants and not the Bose speaker to be honest. I also think the treble or high-pitched tones can sometimes get loud (I'm more of a bass lover so thatâs a personal preference again) but the app can easily correct that by adjusting the audio settings to your liking.I also liked that Bose was thoughtful enough to add a "mute microphone" button on the top of the speaker. I'm okay with it but suppose that you feel uncomfortable with the thought of a smart device always listening in to what you say? No problem, Bose included the mute microphone just for you. So just press that mute button and it will disable that feature. Turn it on again when you like!My favorite feature is the six preset stations settings. There are 6 buttons available for quick changing on the top of the speaker. So, if you have one favorite station like Spotify then that can be the first setting and then if you want Amazon Music to be your second, and TuneIn can be your third setting and you can just switch between all of those (or with a quick touch on the top) depending on your mood. That's a lot of customization other speakers don't have available as easily as Bose does. It makes me feel like I'm in control of my music needs and wants. The smart assistants and app add to your music experience, making it so much more than just a bluetooth speaker.If you're looking for a powerful smart compact speaker with great sound quality and plenty of features that help you feel in control of your music then I think you'll really like the Bose Home Speaker 300.

Other than that, there is a safety sheet and a quick start guide, the latter asking you to download the Bose Music App.On first using the app, after finding the speaker, you are told that the speaker needs to be updated and will take approximately 15 minutes - 2 hours later it's still updating. Quick check on the internet and there is a full instruction manual on the Bose website and how to do a reset of the speaker. Reset done, speaker updates quickly and then all is done.The sound from the speaker can only be described as wonderful - comparing it to the Bose Solo I have connected to my TV, there is a phenomenal amount of bass from such a small speaker (and it is the first Bose product I have had that you can actually adjust the bass and treble on, even though it has to be done through the app and can be a bit glitchy) and the volume it produces is actually deafening, although even at high volume there is very little distortion.At the moment it is on the floor near to my TV, but it has also been on the dining table, a display shelving unit and outside in the garden. The sound quality in all these locations is excellent, and is improved if the speaker is placed away from solid objects so as to give greater reflection of the sound towards you.This is a fantastic speaker with excellent sound and build quality, and apart from the sometimes glitchy app, can definitely be recommended.
We absolutely love our BOSE 300 speaker. I have always loved BOSE products since I was young and they have really good sound. I have a bunch of BOSE products and this speaker did not disappoint me. I love it is easy to set up and only takes a few minutes to connect to the BOSE and ALEXA apps. It's a great addition to all the other speakers we have including other Bose speakers. This speaker packs a powerful sound in it's small size and I use it most for listening to music in our kitchen. It connects easily to the Bose App and Alexa apps. I am able to ask Alexa just about anything, add things to my cart, find recipes, get notifications and more. It connects easily via USB bluetooth, wifi, and airplay which is cool. My kids even like talking to Alexa and one of my kids even figured out she could play games with it on the Bpse speaker too although it's easy to mute Alexa. We are throughly impressed and happy with this speaker.

Especially as it has 360degree sound.Summary; Having had this for a few weeks now, I think I have come to the conclusion that it is not just a fancy speaker, but is more like one of those huge sound systems from the 80âs, only made to interact with the modern world and made far more convenient. If youâre on the market for something that can play music/radio/podcasts from a range of sources, I would definitely consider this.

Just a note, the provided power cord is proprietary and not any type of USB. There is a micro USB port on the underside of the speaker but it is solely for performing manual firmware updates which you will not need to do - the latest firmware gets installed automatically as part of the initial speaker setup through the Bose Music app (available for both Android and iOS).Setting up the speaker through the app was painless. Bose has had a year since the release of this speaker to refine the process and it went without a hitch. It was unfortunate that during setup I was only allowed to choose one virtual assistant! I have seen this limitation in another third-party speaker and I'm curious as to why Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant couldn't co-exist. After all, they respond to different wake words so why can they work together, simultaneously?After setup was completed, I was able to go back to the app and switched between Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant but each switch required me to go through the setup steps again so it was not a quick or simple swap. Whether it's a technical or contractual hurdle, not be able to use both assistants simultaneously made the Bose Home Speaker 300 less appealing to me.For connectivity and music streaming, the Bose Home Speaker 300 can accommodate Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5 mm AUX input and Apple Airplay 2 which is Wi-Fi streaming from Apple devices. Having Airplay is a nice addition as Bluetooth only allows for one mobile device to be connected to the speaker at a time (although you can store and switch up to eight Bluetooth devices in the Bose Music app). Chromecast audio for streaming from Android devices is noticeably missing as of this writing but hopefully a future software update will remedy that.Lastly, the speaker's AUX input allowed for a laptop or any device with a headphone jack to use the Bose Home Speaker 300 as a high quality external speaker. It would be nice for the speaker to memorize separate volume level of each input or device so Alexa doesn't blast out a song at maximum volume after I forgot to lower the volume from a weaker AUX source.For its compact size, the speaker sounded really good and it can get very loud without distortion. However, the pop songs could sound fuller and I barely notice any bass response. Happily, after a little digging in the Bose Music app, I found the bass adjustment option and maxed it out to my liking.After switching back and forth a few times between the two voice assistants, I stuck with Amazon Alexa for the long haul. The voice commands worked very well with this speaker. The six hidden microphones were very sensitive at picking up my voice commands even when loud music was playing. At times I would say that it worked too well as it responded to my voice commands meant for other speakers much closer to me.Probably worth mentioning was that in the Amazon Alexa mode there was an annoying 3 to 5 seconds of low volume between when Alexa stopped talking and when the music started playing at regular set volume. It's also a downer that not all of Amazon Alexa functionalities were supported for instant I was not able to change the 'Alexa' wake word or add the Bose speaker to Amazon Multi-Room Music to listen to the same music in different rooms at the same time. The Bose Home Speaker 300, however, can group with a number of other Bose Home speakers - just not with Amazon Echo speakers.The Bose Home Speaker 300 is a good sounding speaker with some limitations. It's worth your consideration if you just need a good standalone smart speaker or if you're a Bose fan who will only need to create multi-room listening experience with other Bose speakers. For me, the Bose Home Speaker 300 just didn't quite fit in with my other Amazon speakers. 3.5 stars out of 5.

We downloaded the Bose app to my son's phone, but as soon as the speaker was connected to our wifi, I could easily use it with the music from my iPhone. The sound is good literally in every direction around the speaker, not just in the front. He used the Bose app to connect to his spotify account and use it that way. We also downloaded Google Assistant to use with it and that is really neat as well. I've never used an "assistant" like that...I asked the weather and also how long it would take us to get to Myrtle Beach. You can control the volume either from your phone or on top of the speaker and, unlike most speakers, this is the quality of a soundbar. I like the sleek look of the speaker, definitely not an eyesore in your home. It's very smooth and modern. It does need to be plugged in and the cord is a little short, I think, but you could use a small extension cord if you needed. There are numbers across the top of the speaker which allow you to start playlists without touching your phone, my son loves this. We will use it a lot outside this summer when we have people over, that's why I wish it were wireless, but it's so nice, I'm not going to complain. We REALLY need a soundbar in our living room, so I'm hoping we can use this as well. I think it's a really versatile speaker with amazing quality. I think anything you buy from Bose is a safe bet.
