I have been using my faithful Mackies for about 15 years and it was time to move out of the dark ages. It can be difficult lugging that equipment around on my own from gig to gig, so I am super excited to turn up with my new Bose and carry this into the venue! It is going to make my life so much easier. The app to control the sound is great, the sound is incredible for such a small set up. So crisp and clean. Cannot wait to use it at a gig. One common criticism is no master volume, that isn't too bad as you can use an app to control the system. I also have the T1 Tonematch mixer that I did not trade in (the old one - 4 channel) and "yes", it works with the L1 Pro 8, but you must connect with 1/4" cable, like with the old L1 Compact ... sounds great too me, but I'm not an audio engineer. I play jazz guitar and sing vocals with my own real backing track arrangements, all coming through the Bose with the assistance of a mixer to handle all three things.Now, with the L1 Pro 8, I know longer need to bring a mixer to a solo gig, because the base unit has three channels with on board mixers. I'm not sure how much it could take without damaging the unit, although I do set up in a way that discourages anyone from getting that close.So, in my opinion, this Pro 8 is a far more complete array system than the Compact, and is more versatile. Better bass, reverb, streaming, no external mixer needed. Fits my purpose well. If you have a situation similar to mine and are using the Compact, I highly recommend this upgrade.

I have been using the JBL Eon One system for a few years because the previous Bose L1 compact series lacked the low end punch I need. I was told that the Bose L1 Pro8 has improved the low end response over the previous L1 compact series so I purchased it. It's clarity for high and mid's is superior to the JBL Eon One but it still lacks the punch of the JBL. The clarity and crispness of my acoustic guitar is superior to the JBL but I find it overall to be a little too much on the high end as the JBL provides overall better response to "move" the audience in feeling the music even though the Bose L1 Pro8 does have more power. For stand alone acoustic players, it is very clear and does the job, but I would recommend you try the newer JBL Mk2 for comparison. It is the same issue on the JBL Eon One so you have to make sure the stack connections are fitted tightly together.

I bought one of these bad boys about 3 months ago and have tried it in several different venues. The sound quality is very clear and it works wonderfully as a monitor. My only issue is that when using it as a solo or duo performer, it does not do well in loud rooms or medium size venues. I have had several instances where I have my vocal channel pumped up to 75% and it starts breaking up or getting muddy. I have needed to bring my qsc k12 to bring extra horsepower. I have only played 2 venues where this has worked well all by itself. I generally only play small to medium venues so I am slightly disappointed, however the 2 venues that it worked for, it worked very well. If I could give it 3 1/2 I would, but I'll round up because it is a nice little system and I will definitely continue to use it where I can

An internal rechargeable battery would be great for ultimate portability, but it would increase the weight of the base unit, which is already 8 pounds heavier than the L1 Compact's base unit. The only negative I've found is the line out… Instead of the dual line outs on the L1 Compact (1/4" and RCA jacks), Bose downgraded this feature to just a single output — in XLR format. I usually record my gigs using using the line out and I sometimes run an extension from the line out to a second unit, so I had to buy an XLR to 1/4" adapter in order to plug in my 1/4" splitter for this purpose. Not a showstopper, but I'm scratching my head as to why Bose made this change. I still use my two S1 Pro units for small venues/audiences or where a power outlet isn't conveniently located, but the L1 Pro 8 handles the larger jobs and my L1 Compact is now my backup unit. I also use the Compact as an extension for the Pro 8 when I need additional fill in a large venue. The two units sound great together! Well done, Bose.

As soon as I start playing my backing tracks through it from my laptop or phone, it shuts off within 15 - 30 seconds. I tried multiple times, all with the same results.I returned it for another unit. Got it home and the same thing happened. I called Bose technical support and they had me return it to them. The Pro 8's were on backorder, so they sent me a Pro 16 at no additional charge. I thought, great! But no, this one had the same issue. It plays for a few seconds and then shuts off. I've tried it at home and at a venue where I perform. Same results, so it is not my power source.Totally frustrated as I really wanted this to work and need a bigger system (I currently use a Bose L1 Compact for my gigs) as I have a couple of upcoming gigs at hotel ballrooms. Figured the Pro 8 or Pro 16 would be perfect.If you buy either unit, I wish you the best of luck. As for me, I will look to another brand and hopefully find something reliable.
