After you finally get everything setup and the device updated (30 minute process), connecting it to your TV is straight forward. It is all down hill from there. I set up Alexa which does seem to work fairly well but only from the App standpoint. I tried playing some music through it, the sound of the speakers is completely disappointing if the sound bar is anywhere over 60% volume it sounds like a cheap radio that was taken to the beach got wet and left in the sand. (I wish I could add some of the videos I have taken and not just pictures). I mean just absolute rubbish nothing like you would expect from Bose and nothing you expect for $900 dollars. I will be at the doors waiting for the store to open tomorrow morning. I can't take this thing back fast enough. This experience has completely tarnished the Bose name for me and I have been an avid fan for decades of their products.

I just cannot get over how much more immersive the sound is over my old surround sound system! Setup was a breeze, plug the soundbar in, run the update (it takes a good 15-20 minutes) and then set up the bass module and surround speakers. Go into the app and add them (you do it in the soundbar settings), then run adaptiq and prepare to be like the memorex guy! I did run into some weirdness where AdaptIQ kept saying it couldn’t hear anything, so I ended up removing and readding the base module and speakers and it sounded great. One other important note, if you have a WiFi router near the soundbar you will likely get a popping sound from the bass module. I just plugged it into the soundbar directly with a shielded cable and it works perfectly. All in all I am EXTREMELY happy with this purchase!

These surround speakers complement the soundbar 900 and the bass module to generate a satisfying cinematic experience. One minor point deserves mentioning. Although the BOSE Music app does its job for the set-up and control of the system, it still needs some fine-tuning due to somewhat frequent glitches. In conclusion, I am very happy with purchasing the BOSE 900 system and recommend it for small to medium-sized rooms.

Compact yet powerful sound.

Bose Smart Soundbar 900 is a very compact size soundbar. A stylish modern design with a nice glass-type top surface should find its place in any room. The small size hides truly powerful sound. The initial setup is very intuitive thanks to Bose Music mobile App. HDMI ARC connected directly to the TV provides the highest quality audio signal to the Soundbar. It also turns the bar automatically on with the TV remote control. The sound at the beginning wasn't as impressive as I expected however after room calibration with the additional mic, that is included in the package, Bose Smart Soundbar 900 starts to shine. Waiting for any kind of movie gives this extra 3D impression. Gaming with this soundbar is pure, please. Gaming console fans will be pleased for sure. But how does it sound in terms of music reproduction? Well, it's pretty good as for the soundbar. with a few tweaks on the EQ via the mobile app you can get a really good outcome. The highs are nice and crisp, the midrange is in place, and low frequencies from such a small size soundbar are more than I expected. To take the setup to the higher sound impression-level you can add a subwoofer and two rear/effect speakers, all wireless connection to the soundbar, but even without them, the soundbar sounds good. I am absolutely happy with the quality of the build as well as the sound reproduction for all kinds of content, music, video or gaming. I'm planning to extend the setup with the subwoofer to get more low frequencies and more bases for movies. That's for sure a good choice.

Frustratingly difficult to install.

Note: we are tech savvy with very a fast internet. The Bose SB 900 and Bose app/adoptiq was very difficult and complicated to setup/download/install. The Bose app must be installed before you can use the SB 900. The entire app installation process took hours to complete. Had purchased the Bose wall bracket ($40), so we mounted the SB on the wall with the bracket, while waiting on the app to download/install on my Samsung android phone. The physical install on the wall went well and took about an hour or so. Upon finally opening the Bose app hours later, we learned that we needed to attach the included headphones in order to run the adoptiq...too late, the unit was already mounted on the wall; could not get-to the input on the SB 900 to plug the headphones in. So was never able to use the adoptiq. Fortunately, we had already attached the power cable, HDMI eARC, and the Bose wired subwoofer cable. Note: be sure to attach all cables to the soundbar, before mounting it on the wall. Once the Bose app was installed, we encountered multiple software conflicts with my Sony TV, (current model), and its Netflix, YouTube, Hulu apps. The Bose app seemed to override the TV settings, and there was no sound at all. Finally resorted to restarting/reinstalling the Sony TV back to its factory settings, and the sound returned. I am still fiddling with the SB 900 app to try and get an optimum TV sound. Had I not already mounted the SB 900 to the wall, then I would most likely be returning it today. Conclusion: Frustratingly difficult to install. It should not be this complicated. Does it sound $600 better than the Bose TV SB it replaced...yes perhaps it can; I still working with the Bose app settings, etc. At this point, I cannot recommend the Bose Soundbar 900.

Sound quality is superb with high clarity and perfect balance of bass/treble. Honestly, I would be giving it a 5 Star if it was still the first 48 hours after purchase/install. Here’s when the rating decreased to a 3 Star; Day 3. We only stream (no cable/satellite) by utilizing all of our apps on our LG TV. The issue (which at first thought it was just firmware updates) was when changing from one streaming app to another OR pausing/replay of a show, the sound would just stop; this happened roughly 60-70% of the time. Along with the firmware updates, also replaced HDMI cable (connected via ARC), WiFi issue (hardwired connection to eliminate this), and then began questioning if it was our TV. With this said, we’ve had 2 other soundbars connected to the same TV (Bought 12/2019), and had no issues like this. We brought our old Klipsch bar (2015) out of another room and there were no issues. At this point, I knew it was the Bose soundbar that was the issue. If it wasn’t for this issue on top of the issues of a constant popping noise from the Bose 700 subwoofer, we wouldn’t of taken this back and bought another brand. We truly loved the incredible sound quality but paying $1,600 for the combo, didn’t feel as if we should be experiencing this. I hope Bose figures out this issue and the issue with the subwoofer (common issue I found when researching online) because if they do, we’ll buy Bose again but until then, I’d save a little and go with another brand. My suggestion, do an hour of research on different ones at the price point before buying.

After exchanging the soundbar and the satellite speakers for the small surround speakers, the system was a bit easier to install the second go around but still not simple; app can be frustrating at times. The sound is great from the system, now that it’s finally hooked up and working and the components are much fewer and smaller than our old home audio system but I am disappointed that the level of adjustment doesn’t appear on the TV screen and we are always guessing how high or low the level is. We are both techies and not shy about reading and following instructions or troubleshooting but the lack of the aforementioned was extremely frustrating. We found ourselves trying to research forums to see what was wrong with our initial setup. That should not happen with a brand new product. The money Bose saved on printing instruction booklets and developing an online instruction guide made for an extremely frustrating experience. We wanted ‘the best’ and bought top of the line but our experience was soured..

Phenomenal even for >25 Feet Living room setup
2 February 2023

This soundbar 900 produces the phenomenal sound in the segment. My TV is 25' distance and the AdaptIQ headset barely able to reach the couch, however, it tunes wonderfully, I watched YT, Prime, Peacock and other contents and Bose TrueSpace technology works superb! I got the OpenBox excellent which is even cheaper that 700 price, 125 cheaper. Man, the speaker is super heavy, and a true piece of engineering from Bose, solid sturdy, and glass top is elegant! The holes in the Glass make your room filled with Sound Bubble, Dolby Atmos! I am using ARC, not eARC and still can play Dolby Atmos content (You can check which content is playing on TV by going to Bose App and it shows Dolby Atmos, for example, if playing Tomorrow's war in Prime), so yeah, eARC is NOT must to ... MoreThis soundbar 900 produces the phenomenal sound in the segment. I am using ARC, not eARC and still can play Dolby Atmos content (You can check which content is playing on TV by going to Bose App and it shows Dolby Atmos, for example, if playing Tomorrow's war in Prime), so yeah, eARC is NOT must to have, ARC can do the job for older TV owners.. As I said, I bought it OpenBox Excellent from Manassas BB outlet, I checked the condition at the store to ensure I am getting the excellent condition piece, it had all needed accessories including brand new Batteries, If I needed, I still could return it (within 60 days I guess), But I am NOT returning this great grab. It's 125 cheaper than 700, made the great deal overall! Now, the Bose APP, it has Dialogue Mode setting, when it's ON, it provides best dialogue speech from TV. Well for Bass, it's more than enough with low thump for my 25' x 30' large living room. Bose greatness truly showers the sound with full details, not missing any beats from contents, I discovered many new sounds from the same songs even I listened those songs 1000s times in non-Bose products!. In Bose App, I tuned with- Dialogue Mode: Off, AdaptIQ: ON, Center channel: 10, Heigh Channel: 90, Bass: 40, Treble: 40. With this tuning, I get the best surround sound even I did NOT hook up any other speakers other than just this beast 900. It is the true power of the Bose that it can sustain and produces best overall sound just with a single Soundbar 900. My couch is touching the wall across the TV, distance at 22-23 feet with recliners, and still can feel the sound is reaching to my left and right! The height channel is strong which I experienced in Prime's Quiet Place 2 movie scene, when creature jumps in to the tunnels/underground, the effects feel that it jumped over from my roof to my living room ha! And in the same movie, in frist 10 min, the dog barks when he shows alien ships entering the earth, that fire ball sounds terrific, and dog barking felt he barks from my kitchen. Yes, My TV facing couch, and the side has openings for Kitchen, thoguh, doesn't deteriorate sound quality when AdaptIQ is ON. Now setting up AdaptIQ, you need to plug the Headphone cable, little ackward position across the power cable, but works for me, sit down at your fav spot on couch, run the IQ technic, which throws some sound on your walls, multiple directions, the AI technology grabs the distance of the wall and your siting position, and then analyze for throwing frequency on the wall off to you!. Hope this review helps, and get one, you will bless yourself!!

Surround speaker issues

After a couple of hours of troubleshooting, the end result was still speakers not working, the tech advised replacing both speakers, so now I’m in the process of packing up the old speakers to send back for replacement. The tech did get my bass speaker working and with the sound bar and base, the quality of my tv’s sound system is really incredible. I can only imagine what the surround speakers will add to the experience. So except for the time required to get the system hooked up and the inconvenience of packing up and returning the speakers, I’m still happy with my purchase. Because of the hassles described above I’m giving giving this system a 3, once I get all the bugs worked out it may be higher, the tech support gets a 10+.

The Soundbar 900 is well worth it.

Hi everyone, Having owned the soundbar 900 now for 3 weeks I thought it would be good to share my thoughts to those considering upgrading from the 300/700, or jumping right in as a newbie to the 900. Prior to the upgrade to the 900, I already had the full 700 setup which included the 700 Soundbar, 300 bass module and 300 rears. Prior to the soundbar 700, I had the 300. If I were to summarise, the 700 setup was solid for music and reasonable for movies, but the 900 is a solid performer across both areas. Summary of the 900 performance: • The power of 900 Soundbar is markedly improved over the 700. • Voice dialog on the 900 is markedly improved over the 700. • Stereo separation on the 900 is excellent, and the reflection of sound left and right of the Soundbar is ... MoreHi everyone, Having owned the soundbar 900 now for 3 weeks I thought it would be good to share my thoughts to those considering upgrading from the 300/700, or jumping right in as a newbie to the 900. • Stereo separation on the 900 is excellent, and the reflection of sound left and right of the Soundbar is greatly improved, actually it’s amazing. • The sound stage of the 700 is narrow compared to the 900. • Atmos adds a level of depth to the sound which must be heard to fully appreciate. You are now enveloped in sound and the placement of sound within the room is much more accurate. You no longer feel the sound is coming from the Soundbar beneath the TV, but it is elevated and is more in-line with the activity on the screen. • The simulated Atmos for non-Atmos movies by the Soundbar, which I believe Bose call TrueSpace is excellent and makes standard Dolby 2.0 or 5.1 movies a pleasure to watch, rather quite immersive. • Significant difference was the clarity of audio and how it made the 700 rears and base module come alive, the rears now actually perform as they should. • The Bose Music app now shows the audio format the soundbar is receiving. • The 300/700 bass module and 300/700 rears have come alive using them with the soundbar 900. The handoff of audio between the Soundbar and the bass/rears is more seamless and I don’t hear gaps in sound for the left and right areas of the room. One firmware bug however and it’s worth noting. The very first 2 seconds of audio isn’t heard, the soundbar is fine then after; no audio dropouts or sync issues at all. It’s like the soundbar is sorting out what signal it’s receiving. I have reported to Bose support who have advised it will be resolved in a future firmware update. No timeframe given on this from Bose support. Soundbar out of the box updated to firmware 3.0.18 and is now currently running firmware 3.0.22. The Soundbar 900 is well worth it. I hope this helps someone who is considering upgrading or purchasing for the first time.
