While connected to your phone, the Flex can take calls, and the microphone is not bad if you are relatively close. It also allows you to connect to your phone's assistant to request music or other assistant features through the speaker. I did not notice any Bluetooth cutouts or interference issues. The rubberized housing is not just a thin coating it is a thick rubber housing that seems like it is built to last. The app actually gives you the ability to pair your Soundlink speaker to another Soundlink speaker in Party Mode. You can also turn on or off the voice prompt and change the language (which is fun) and set an auto-off timer to help save battery if you are concerned with that. The speaker is rated to have a 12-hour battery life, and while I haven't fully tested that out, I would say that I experienced a 10% drop off in the first hour, but then it evened out so I feel like it could easily last for 12 hours. However, if this is a concern for you, the USB-C port allows the speaker to charge very quickly. The Bluetooth range is average to slightly above-average. but not amazing. It seems to work about 30-40 feet before the sound starts to break up. Overall this speaker is incredibly sturdy and provides amazing sound quality. It is portable and easy to take anywhere you want to go. It is a great choice for a Bluetooth speaker and Bose has once again created a great companion to your music collection! When I listened to the Flex, I was comparing it to two BT speakers I have, one that is larger and cost twice as much, and a smaller one that is about half the price. I was curious to see where the Flex fell in between. I tested the speaker primarily with metal and hard rock since those are my primary genres. A key point is the speaker and its app has no built-in EQ. I was testing from Spotify so I custom EQ'd with a U-shaped curve (treble end higher than bass end). The speaker can either be laid on its back or sit upright which is my preference. The first thing I did was slowly raise the volume to check on distortion. I was quite surprised that I could crank it to full volume and with the EQ I had I didn't catch much distortion. I then backed it down to normal listening levels to see what this speaker could do. I was impressed with how clean the sound was. I could hear the highs better than expected, and not chest pounding but the bass (and mids) filled out the sound profile very well. This is a mono speaker where the L/R are blended. In order to get pure stereo, you can buy a second speaker and pair through party mode. I love this speaker. It doesn't have the oomph of a larger speaker and buries smaller ones. It leans towards a larger speaker for its size.

It does not affect the flow of sound, speaking of sound, The SoundLink carries the Bose name to the full extend showcasing some of the best sounding music any portable can achieve. You get very crisp clean sound from such a small package, hard to believe its coming from a portable Bluetooth speaker. There is clear separation with full fledge stereo sound that immerses you on the go. And battery life is great, it matches the full 12 hours it claims, i have been able to use it all day at work, and still have a solid 4-5 hours left to keep music going with Party Mode. This allows you to pair your SoudLink to other Bose Bluetooth speakers. Plus you can connect it to your Bose soundbar to synch the viewing experience outdoors with out missing a beat. Overall i would highly recommend the Bose SoundLink to anyone looking for a great sounding durable portable speaker.

Right out of the box the Bose Soundlink Flex had a great charge but I plugged it in to get a full charge before I started to link it to my phone. While I waited for it to charge, I downloaded the Bose Connect app. When I first saw the box I thought the speaker was going to be tiny because there is usually a lot of packing inside of shipping boxes. Not so with this speaker. No filler and the speaker was nice size and perfectly portable. The loop lets you hook it on to something as not to lose track of it. The buttons are easily identifiable and easy to push, without being too sensitive. I haven't had the opportunity to test how waterproof it is but it looks very tightly ... Back to set up, now that it charged and the app has been downloaded. Once you have the app open and the speaker on it really took minutes to sync the speaker and my phone. Only thing I forgot to turn off the speaker and scared myself when I was scrolling through an app and music began playing through the speaker, which I wasn't expecting. The sound is crystal clear and especially love the bass when listening to music. You can really get loud with your tunes and it doesn't distort the sound. I would highly recommend this speaker for anyone that appreciates a good sound and wants to listen at home or when they're out and not have to worry about the elements.
