But more likely than not, it'll cover your entire event, no problem. I used it often while on a trip for a week - mostly at lower volumes - and never actually needed to charge it. It feels well built and substantial, despite being light enough to carry with you. Overall, really exceptional audio quality. You'll be amazed at the bass it pumps out - especially if you increase it via the EQ in the Bose app. Unfortunately, there is no AUX port, nor can you do audio via USB-C. Perhaps that can be enabled via a software update, but I wouldn't count on that, so you are limited to Bluetooth connectivity. There are certainly cheaper options out there for something like this, but you'll be hard pressed to find something with this level of audio quality and portability, so the price seems justified. If you primarily care about audio quality - and don't care about price or size or weight - the Max is the way to go. But if you want any real semblance of portability, you won't be disappointed by this. I don't have the Micro to compare against it, but this is only slightly more and seems like the right call.

I gravitate towards Metalcore, Rock, and fairly bass-heavy musical styles. As alluded to earlier, the larger SoundLink Max digs deeper, but the trade-off is a significantly heavier speaker (not to mention a much more significant dent in your wallet). One of the first songs I usually try is Post Maloneâs Rockstar to see how low a speaker goes, and for this tiny speaker, it performed remarkably well. I then try Bullet to the Heart - Revanent (played in F key with a significant double bass kick). You can hear each distinct slap of the bass kick pedal, and they do not get muddied at all (unlike one of its competitors, the Beats Pill, which failed to produce the same distinction). I then switched to Written by Wolves - Goddess to hear how it handles Rock meets EDM music â fantastic! For a blend between metal and R&B, Jeris Johnsonâs When the Darkness Comes fits the bill, and this was the most surprising experience. The Flex 2 SoundLink sounds fantastic during the lower beat hits post-chorus! Moving to slower music, Jelly Roll - I Am Not Okay tests against his signature growl and voice gravel. What an excellent little speaker!However, I think my favorite use case is a bit of an oddity â it is FANTASTIC for telepresence meetings (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WebEx, and Amazon Chime). I tired of my smaller monitor-style speakers on my limited desk space, which admittedly is dominated by my 49â Dell monitor, MacBook Pro, and peripherals. Linking this Flex 2 SoundLink via Bluetooth was a snap, and it fits perfectly below the monitor. I could clearly hear all the meeting participants. Other participants told me that the built-in microphone also made my voice sound warm and inviting on their end of the call.One small area that I would love to see more improvement is Boseâs newest Speaker Linking feature. It functions perfectly between two identical Flex 2 SoundLink models, but it does not work between dissimilar models within the same SoundLink family (for example, one Flex 2 and one SoundLink Max). Iâm sure there is a reason why this doesnât work, but I would love to have this functionality if possible.

I have been a long time user of the original Bose SoundLink Mini from 2013, and have shown off its quality to new friends as recently as last year. Very, very useful if I need to cover a couple of rooms with sound at the same time.If you are after something that can put out a lot of sound then the Max might be a better fit for you, but if you're after the best version of what most people would think of as a Bluetooth speaker, then you cannot do better than the new SoundLink Flex.

The sound is clear and amazing at any level and this thing can blast the sound! If you're having a party, this is all you will need for your playlist. With its shortcut button capability, you can pair it with another SoundLink speaker for even bigger sound. You can even use that button to create a shortcut - I chose to use it for Spotify and when I press that shortcut button, the speaker connects to the Spotify app on my phone. Bose claims a 12 hour battery life, which is long enough for a day in my life, though they do state that at maximum volume the battery will last approximately 3 hours.The Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd gen) is light to carry at just 1.66 pounds and has a nice feel with it's soft-touch, silicone-wrapped finish and it is dust proof and waterproof (rated IP67). This is truly portable because Bose built it to withstand, as they say: "drops, crushing, shocks, and rust", and it has a small hoop to hook it onto your gear. As I was writing this review, my phone rang and I was able to answer it via this speaker! There is a built in microphone so the caller was able to hear me, but said I was fading in and out, though I was sitting in one spot. I was able to hear them clearly. The other problem was that I didn't know how to hang up via the speaker - I had to have them hang up (of course I could have used my phone).This Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) Portable Bluetooth Speaker puts out absolutely incredible sound in a small speaker (H 2.06 inches, W 8.661 inches, D 3.78 inches). This is quality that I appreciate and that I know will last for a good long time. It is everything I want in a portable speaker and I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone in the market for an excellent quality small Bluetooth speaker.

This speaker does not have a 3.5mm stereo input jack like some competing products (and other Bose portable speakers) have.[ Ease of Use ]Pairing the speaker with an audio source over Bluetooth is quick and easy, with a nice bonus of Fast Pairing on Android devices. The speaker did a good job of automatically switching between two different audio sources which were simultaneously connected. The one gripe I have here is that the multi-purpose âshortcutâ button, which by default is used to pair two speakers, can only be reconfigured using the Bose app, which is a downright silly requirement. I should be able to press and hold the button and press a volume adjustment button (as an example, among other possibilities) to cycle through shortcut modes.[ Battery ]The battery usage feels on par with whatâs advertised (3 hours at max volume, 12 hours mixed usage), adequate for a highly portable speaker and serving my use cases. The 4-hour charging time seems a bit harsh, but if a charge lasts through the day, then it probably isnât an issue.

Talk about surround sound!DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS: This is a Bluetooth wireless speaker that comes in multiple colors: black, blue dusk, alpine sage (which is more like a lighter shade of blue with a tiny bit of green), and sandstone (which is a beige/gray color). This is not a speaker that has a built-in voice assistant; this is not a âsmartâ device that you can talk to. It wonât respond to the sound of your voice. There is no radio feature on this device. This Bluetooth speaker is purely for streaming audio. The Soundlink Flex 2 is enclosed in a hard silicone casing. It has a large speaker on the front of the device and a smaller speaker located on the bottom end of the back of the device. The speaker has six controls located on the top of the device: the power on/off button, the Bluetooth button, a âShortcutâ button, a volume down button, a volume up button, and a play/pause button. You can use the play/pause button to skip songs by using a double press. If you press three times on the play pause button, the Bluetooth speaker will go back to the previous track. I have not tested the âShortcutâ button of this speaker, but it can be used to link two Bose bluetooth speakers together; this is what the button is programmed to do as a default feature, but you can customize the button to include other features. NOTE: You can only link two Bose bluetooth speakers together if BOTH speakers have a Shortcut button.The Bose Soundlink Flex 2 is a device that offers versatility and options. It allows you to pair multiple devices to it that you can select from; specifically, it allows you to store up to 6 devices in the speakerâs device list. You can view your device list in the accompanying Bose app (hit the image of the Soundlink Flex 2, then hit the âSourceâ button on the app to see all the devices your speaker is connected to). Optionally, you can use the Bose app to check the Soundlink Flex 2 battery life, control the speakerâs volume, configure EQ settings, etc. The Soundlink comes with a USB to USB-C charging cable that can either be hooked up to your desktop or laptop or to a wall outlet via a charging brick/wall charger. The charging port on the speaker uses the USB-C side of the cable. When you turn on the device, even straight out the box, it will immediately tell you what battery percentage is left. The device will turn off automatically after 20 minutes of non-usage. To pair the Soundlink Flex 2 to your device of choice, all you must do is hit the power button to turn it on; subsequently, the Bluetooth icon next to it will begin to blink blue. When the Soundlink Flex 2 connects to a device, the light switches from a blinking blue color to solid white. According to the directions, if for some reason the speaker isnât connecting, click and hold the Bluetooth button on the speaker until you hear the speakerphone say, âReady to connect.âPROS: This speaker is easy to use. It connects to my iPhone without any issues. Itâs impressive how quickly it pairs to my phone. Similarly, it pairs to my Chromebook quickly. The Soundlink Flex 2 allows you to connect to multiple devices, six in total. I like that it not only gives me six options to choose from, but it also gives me the ability to connect to two devices at the same time. All you do is go to the Bose app and go to your device list or âsourceâ list. There are toggle buttons to the right of each device displayed in your list; turn on the toggle next to one additional device within the list and watch how seamlessly you can switch back and forth between the two. Whichever streaming source you are using will have the words âActive Streamâ listed next to it to determine which of the two devices is actively streaming on the Soundlink Flex 2. This dual functionality worked flawlessly between my chrome book and iPhone.You can get a lot of audio playing time out of the Soundlink Flex 2 if the Bluetooth speaker is fully charged. According to Bose, you can get up to 12 hours, but that length of time diminishes greatly when you play your audio at a louder volume for extended periods of time like me. I like it really loud, so I will get 4 to 6 hours max. Speaking of loud music, you donât have to max out the volume on this handheld device to hear the audio at a higher volume. This speaker is powerful. It handles music recorded with lots of base and drums incredibly well. The louder and stronger the volume the music was recorded at, the lower the volume this speaker needs to be if you want to avoid going deaf or feeling the base in your chest.Yes, this device is truly that powerful. As a base and percussion lover, this is a huge pro for me. I like my music to thump, and this Bluetooth speaker handles âthumpingâ music phenomenally. Pick a song with lots of base or drums to test it out, and I highly doubt you will be disappointed in the sound quality coming from the Soundlink Flex 2. The music sounds great, and it distinctly can be heard throughout my entire home. I also like to use the device while I am in the shower. Though the device is labeled as waterproof, I did not bring it inside the shower and instead rested the device on the bathroom counter. Even with the shower running and pounding against the tile, I can comfortably hear the music playing.This last pro is fairly obvious: portability. The Soundlink Flex 2 can be carried with one hand. It weighs 1.66 pounds, which makes it feel almost like a brick in on hand. Despite the weight on it, itâs smooth silicone design feels comfortable in the hand and itâs flat sides make it easier to grip. The width is almost 9 inches (8.661 inches) and it has a slender build. It feels both durable and light enough to travel with.CONS: My biggest gripe is that it comes with a USB to USB-C cable and that it doesnât come with a charging brick/wall charger. Most devices today are phasing out USB cables for USB-C. That means that most people are also not using their USB charging bricks anymore but instead are carrying around USB-C charging bricks. Some may find having to carry two different charging bricks to be an inconvenience. I would have preferred it came with a charging brick instead of just the cable. To me, it charges too slowly when using a laptop as a power source. I think it took me more than a half hour to fully charge it (it comes out the box at 30% battery power), and yes, I was using it while it was charging. Compare that to being fully charged in a half hour when I used an outlet and wall charger as a power source (while playing music), and youâll see why I prefer not to use my laptop as a power source. NOTE: if the Soundlink Flex 2 battery is less than 20%, the speaker may require up to 4 hours to fully charge. I think that is too long. It would be great if the Bose can improve on the speed of charging the speakerâs battery in the future or if they could include in the box a fast-charging wall adapter.The device seemed to have a hard time connecting to an android phone I was using to test it. Even after I disconnected the device from my iPhone AND turned off my iPhone, the device kept trying to connect to my iPhone and not the android phone. It took 10 to 15 minutes for the device to finally connect to the Samsung galaxy phone I was using to test the deviceâs Bluetooth capabilities. To be fair, I cannot determine if this issue was because of the android phone or the speaker itself. My primary phone is an iPhone, and it had zero issue finding the Bose speaker in my list of Bluetooth devices.Also, I have the black version of this speaker, and it is a dust and finger smudge magnet. I know Bose says the Soundlink Flex 2 has a dustproof design, but I disagree. Be prepared to wipe it off frequently. Fingerprints and dust will not display as easily on the lighter color options.This is a minor con, but I would have liked for the device to come with a travel case of some kind. It is a portable device after all. While it is designed to be shock resistant and be able to withstand drops from short distances/heights, I still feel this device is too fragile to carry from place to place exposed. Yes, the speaker is durable enough to take a drop and not shatter or malfunction; and no, the speaker doesnât feel fragile when you hold it, nor does the material seem flimsy. However, I am very clumsy, and mistakes happen. I wouldnât want it sitting uncovered in my suitcase or carryon bag either to avoid scratches. It does not seem like the hardware would scratch easily, but again, I donât want to take that chance.Lastly, if you live in an apartment, duplex, or condominium like I do, be mindful of the volume of the device. Iâm not exaggerating when I say this tiny speaker is powerful. I have thin walls and live in an older house; thereâs no way my elderly neighbors did not hear it. I try to be considerate of the time of day that I use this speaker for that reason. It can get about as loud as a low-end soundbar can; the bass will be amplified, and the sound of the audio will permeate the walls. For this reason, this will be a great speaker to use outside.CONCLUSION: My family and I enjoyed the overall performance of the Soundlink Flex 2. I think it would make a great gift.

There is an equalizer on the Bose app that can dial in the sound that you like! Thereâs also a directional IQ built into the speaker so it can tell if its vertical or horizontal and direct sound accordingly. Also built into the speaker is a Shortcut button that will allow you to either recall Siri, link another speaker together to create a stereo affect, or restart Spotify! The linking of speakers is a great feature as well as I have a Bose soundbar in my family room and the two can work in conjunction with each other to play music in multiple rooms!
