The constant striving to make even a really great acoustic guitar sound as good on stage (especially through other people's PA systems) as it does in a studio with a Neumann mic is probably like looking for a musical unicorn. I've tried LOTS of Acoustic pedals and amps, and the AD-10 is likely to get closest. It sounds fine through my PA, a Fender Deluxe Reverb, a Boss Katana 100 and even a little Bose S1 Pro. The upside is lots of functions (meaning you can tweak endlessly); the downside is lots of functions (meaning that it has lots of menu items to get your head around). The looper would not meet Sheeran requirements but it's handy if you want to solo over a verse/chorus pattern you previously played. So far very good, and the manual is reasonably easy to follow. Nearly 5 stars, but that's reserved for when a pedal is as good as a Neumann.

A great tool for live acoustic guitarists

This is a great little unit. I was looking to downsize my acoustic rig and the AD10 seemed a logical choice. I've owned many Boss multi-effect processors, and have always been impressed with their durability and their dependability. This chassis is very sturdy. It's all metal with solid switches and jacks, and the XLR ins/outs latch.It has some nice presets straight out of the box, but the power of the AD10 is under the hood. If you're into menus, are not afraid of tweaking parameters and building patches then you get A LOT of bang for the price of a couple of single pedals. The effects are all very useful and sound great. The emphasis is on the effects that most acoustic guitarists need such as compressor, notch filters, looper, chorus etc and not a lot of stuff ... MoreThis is a great little unit. I'd also like to have the ability to save my patches to my computer (given that it has a USB port)

I have been waiting for some time for the AD-10 to be available. I like the Boss AD-2 as well. But the AD-10 makes it so I don't need anything else. I can run AC or 6AA batteries for the power. Then adjustable gain in on 1 or 2 channels even 1&2 at the same time. Digital EQ on both channels. Adjustable Low Cut 10-990Hz , Mid adjustable 200Hz-5.0kHz, Treble, Presence, and Level of eq. Anti-Feedback Reduction, 2 notch switches. 3 Types of Acoustic Resonance (Think Aura) kind of. To me it sounds more woody and natural. You can adjust the tonal quality as well. It's a fully adjustable blend with the pickup. Option for volume pedal or switches. Smaller than a iPad. Just played with the mic and pickup on using a Bose Compact 3 ft away at 97bd w no feedback. Fits perfectly in my SKB iSeries case. I Gig with two nylon string guitars a Andy Culpepper Spruce Blanca Flamenco with a LR Baggs Dual Source Pickup (Element and Mic) I run the Element into input 1 and Mic into 2. I mix the signals at 60%pu and 40mic. I do eq each separately. My other guitar is a Cordoba GK Studio Limited with the Fishman Presus Blend pickup. It's two sources a undersadle and mic blend. The AD-10 sounds great with the GKSL . For most gigs I see myself bringing the Guitar, Smal Case with Boss AD-10, and Bose L1s or Compact, with a few cables. For gigs with no AC I'll use same guitars, Boss AD-10 with batteries and a Behringer Europort MPA40BT. Good for outdoor wedding ceremonies or smaller gigs 75-150 people. The Boss AD-10 makes my life very easy. I will try using two Line 6G-30 for wireless functionality soon.

Disappointed

I was disappointed in the sound this unit provided. Sounded good at home but was flat live. It pretty much cut my sound probably a quarter of what was normal to me. Had to turn it up which then caused feedback even with the double notch filter on. Had to tweak on the fly. I actually had to put a feedback killer in the soundhole of my Taylor to kill the feedback. This was all during my gig! Not cool. This box would probably be best for home studio stuff but I will Not gig with this unit ever again. P.s I love Boss. I own 2 Katanas and various pedals. I just don't love the Ad10.

Great Boss product! Highly recommended.

This is a fantastic acoustic pre-amp pedal with great features. Top quality construction just like all other Boss products. It's exactly what you'd expect it to be. The users manual isn't the greatest, but there are plenty of YouTube videos to learn from, if you're not familiar with how Boss pedals work. Adorama was great to work with and shipped FAST! I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

Perfect for Multi Instrumentalists, needs looper undo/redo

I own two of these units, and it's a great preamp/fx unit for my live performances. I use the Anthem system on guitar but it also handles: violin, mandolin, ukulele, U bass, cello and all my other string instruments well. Tough and has gigged over 1000 timesJust needs undo/redo for the looper!

Perfect for the Multi Instrumentalist, needs undo/redo loop

I own two of these units and have found them to be perfect preamp and FX tools for my acoustic performances. I play guitar, violin, mandolin, ukulele and bass with the AD10. The tone is great with all of them and I can store presets for each.It needs a looper update for undo/redo !

Review of Boss AD-10 Acoustic Preamp Pedal

Does everything promised and loads more beneath the hood. Give me a year to work it out. Used with the Fender Engine Room power supply I bought last year. It weighs quite a bit so I'd recommend extra Velcro on your pedal board. Fabulous tones from a Lowden, a Takamine and a Martin. Get this if you have ears for tone, or get a Tonedeq if you just want to plug and play

Solid and Quiet

Acoustic guitars are tricky. This pedal helps to control the dynamic window (lowering the bridge, while raising the water).You have to follow the rules in audio. Always front load your signal. INPUT SENSITIVITY knobs for channel 1 and 2 are on the back.They work at 0. Don't do that. Turn it up, pay attention to the color of the INPUT LED, it is very accurate (like a Jackson audio pedal). showing db level.When you add a pedal in front of the Boss pre amp, pay attention to the input LED for the same strong (orange) signal, but NO (red) clipping.Don't use "Memory Mode". Use "Manual Mode" so you know what it does. It will make no sense in memory mode, until you spend 10 minutes in manual mode.I added the LR Baggs session compression pedal. The LR Baggs is too noisy to use for recording. Very very tricky, moving it away from other items (powered with the battery).The Boss pre amp is quiet. Making it very easy to break the #! rule. Strong signal first on input. Then turn the Boss output up. Check the gain on the guitar amp (find the sweet spot), then turn up the master on the guitar amp. Then go back to the front end (boss pre amp) to be sure you have the correct input sensitivity. Then repeat. Turn up a knob on the guitar? Then check the input LED. If you don't follow the rules, the noise floor will kill you when you crank it up. Use the Anti-Feedback Reduction knob as a Roll-Off, when you crank it up. Quickly find the sweet spot for the low frequencies. Tweak in one second, changes everything. That knob has to be in reach at all times. It saves you. This also is not going to be your 'Big Verbe", just adding the ambience to the signal, on the way in (makes playing so much easier). You will need a good quality reverb to send out of the guitar amp FX loop, magic happens when when the stereo return of the reverb happens on the guitar amp, not the pre amp. Always remember the 'perfect acoustic guitar tone' plugged into an amp, does not exist. Someday I will have to accept that.
