Overall:Loud! On batteries and LOUDER plugged in!Straight out of the box; I was amazed at the quality of sound, and the accessibility of features from the unit control panel.…that’s just the beginning!Controlling the Katana Air with my iPad is simply amazing! There’s a sound library with pro settings, which are changeable and save-able!I recently used this live with a microphone. We had several loud people on stage. The sound tech was very impressed and I could hear myself just fine! The wireless guitar function has been flawless!Using the cable input option makes this a great pedal platform. Sometimes I use a CryBaby and the amp sounds exactly like I want.I use this just about every day and I’m very happy to own it! Highly recommend

The good: small, portable, can run off batteries. The wireless connectivity is really nice. Sounds decent for what it is. The bad: The interface on the unit itself and the app are confusing to say the least, and you are pretty limited in the use of effects. The ugly: all those free Katana patches being posted on the Boss site? Incompatible. All the patches for regular Boss Katana amps WILL NOT WORK on this unit. Thanks for that Boss.

First, you need to like the bottles of the boss katana. If thats the case, you will like this little lamp. Great Bluetooth connectivity, the ability to stream drum tracks, and the ease of operation of the app for the AmpKit self make it super easy to use. Phone is good volume can get way past what you need it to be for this style Amp, and its just a lot of fun. Its just a little big to fit in a suitcase unless you pack conservatively. If you do, this is great to take on the road with the travel with guitar and use as your Bluetooth speaker your Bluetooth phone, or your white noise machine at night, in addition to being a great little practice amp. I have had several occasions where I have been playing and have had people ask me to come over and sit with them outside ... MoreFirst, you need to like the bottles of the boss katana. I've been seeking a modern, portable, reliable practice amp that can satisfy BOTH Acoustic and Electric guitars since Line 6 introduced their Amplifi series. I loved the Amplifi's techie saturated concept but no matter how bad I wanted it to work... it was always a low-fidelity 'noise' amp first without the ability to produce clear, hi-fidelity sound for either my acoustic or classical guitars. Designing an amp that can accurately reproduce hi-fidelity, low distortion sound begins with a good designed, quality build and above average components. As the old proverb states, "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear", you can build a noisy amp but don't ever expect it to reproduce quality sound. Amplifi is the sow's ear. As the old proverb states, "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear", you can build a noisy amp but don't ever expect it to reproduce quality sound. Amplifi is the sow's ear. I thought about testing their newer Amplifi 30 but after many bad experiences testing a 75 and reading that I was not alone ... I lost all confidence that they could do HiFi right. The Katana Air checks many of my must-have boxes and it worked without a hitch. It was designed as a small practice amp and not a single solution for all your gigging needs. Adding in the convenience features like smart-on and multiple wireless features that include power/updating/tuning/modeling/backing tracks/guitar, makes this the practice amp I have been waiting a long timefor. Finally, I can take an amp sailing without worry of 'butt cleats' or adding more hazardous lines to my boat.
This is my go-to amp for practice. Completely wireless, great set of sounds out of it. Truth be told I’ve barely touched the sounds app once I’d dialled in a good crunch tone. Bluetooth for backing tracks is also great as you can play along at a reasonable volume which helps with my time keeping haha. Yes you are paying for convenience but it does certainly take a lot of headache out of setting up for practice. Great little amp.
Overall:I may be mis-reading the manual but I've yet to figure out how to keep the wireless transmitter charged. I'm not new at this having gotten Line 6's wireless transmitters when they first arrived on the scene. They were easy to use and worked as advertised. While I am a huge Roland/Boss fan, I'm thinking they may have missed the mark in the "ease of use" category on the Katana Air. From a sound perspective, the amp, when plugged into a wall socket sounds great; just what you'd expect from a Katana amp. And when the transmitter is fully charged, the same can be expected. The problem arises when trying to figure out how to keep it charged. When running the amp on batteries only, this seems this seems to be problematic in that the amp stops charging the ... MoreOverall:I may be mis-reading the manual but I've yet to figure out how to keep the wireless transmitter charged. The problem arises when trying to figure out how to keep it charged. When running the amp on batteries only, this seems this seems to be problematic in that the amp stops charging the transmitter when the batteries are low. The problem is you don't know the transmitter is dead until you try and use it.My most predictable approach is to plug in the amp with the provided DC cable and do my charging while the amp is "hard-wired" to the juice coming from a wall socket.Once the transmitter is fully charged, in this manner, I can disconnect the amp and run it on a fresh set of batteries. This will afford you a "temporary" wireless operation. The transmitter that I received didn't have any where's near the claimed lifespan. I'd be curious to see how other's experience with the Katana Air played out. I will keep fiddling with the KA and if I discover what it takes to make it truly wireless, I'll get back to you in a follow up review. Strangely I did keep this item, hoping for a downloadable software cure. There is a nice free ap that accompanies the KA.....It allows you to change all of the amp's audio settings and to download free patch sets. This works well with my iPhone 7+.
A fantastic amp- was undecided between this, yamaha and vox. I'm a yamaha guitar person so know yamaha would be good but lacked full tonal range, without buying all 3 thr and the vox is more click a sound, click an effect and that's about as deep as you can go excluding a few odd tweeks on each.. plus yamaha and vox either not wireless or only partly with the vox being Bluetooth. The air is amazing with 50 plus really useful effects and now 4 can be used at any one time.plus up to 3 pages of adjustments for each effect and the ability to arrange the sound chain. This allows the air to produce any sound you want with great tone and loud enough to fill a 14x14 foot room.If you want to just click a sound and effect you can do, making it easy or go to virtually ... MoreA fantastic amp- was undecided between this, yamaha and vox. Went into music shop the other day and it hit me that these big old tube amps just look like dinosaurs all of a sudden.Wireless works perfectly and Bluetooth stable and with app giving infinite sounds and once Bluetooth paired no need to touch the amp again. It's easy to start to play.Tones -with my eyes closed can match my hughes and kettner valve amp no problem.if you want to gig just add an frfr speaker from line out and choose output cab settings. No mucking about with amps pedals etc which I couldn't be bothered to do.Literally a perfec amp for me and won't be going back. Not sure why Internet has some weak reviews it's brilliantly good.
Small, but mighty for what it is. Tons of tones, good sound, decent volume (louder than my wife is willing to put up with), and the app is nice so I don't have to physically go to the amp to change things. This is extra handy thanks to the wireless capabilities. Being able to just pick up and play is really nice, and I find the convenience of this amp to be top-notch. I am a very novice player, but also very open minded. I like this amp, and it was cheaper than the Yamaha THR30 ii wireless by almost $150 (after you add in the, not-included wireless transmitter).I'm taking off 1 star for the following reasons.1. This is very expensive for what it is, especially considering the amount of plastic used in the body and the cheap chromed handle. There are amps that ... MoreSmall, but mighty for what it is. This is very expensive for what it is, especially considering the amount of plastic used in the body and the cheap chromed handle. There are amps that are better at most anything the Katana Air can do at a cheaper price point... but no cheaper amps that do everything this does. This isn't a "one amp to rule them all" solution, but it just might be the amp you use most... depending on your needs.2. There's no pre-amp line out, other than the "recording/Headphones" 3.5mm port. I would have really liked to have been able to run this to another Amp, or maybe a Realtone cable for Rocksmith. Also... being able to hook up a looper pedal would have been nice.3. The wireless (which may be due to location in my house with a nearby 2.4Ghz router) will have an audio crackle that shows up when I first start using it. I read in the manual that the Katana Air will monitor the 2.4Ghz radio band, and change it's frequency in that range to get best performance. I don't know if that's what's happening or not, but about 30 seconds in or so, the crackle disappears and it's smooth, wireless, no-lag playing from then on.Bonus Note: There's a certain youtube video about the Boss Katana Air that shows how one might add some powered speaker out ports, so you can run larger cab speakers (in the 4-8 Ohm range). I've not done this, but it's on my list to do.
Having two popular competing models (small size/form factor modeling amps), I can confidently say I prefer the Boss Katana-Air. It just sounds great! It does not have the fullness and bass response of my Spark nor the cool factor and ultra-spacious reverb of my THR30 (MK1) but, to me, offers the best and most satisfying sound experience with different guitars/types.I love the wireless connectivity but always experience static noise during around the first minute of operation. Then it goes away. Could be interference with something in my house. The phone app (interface) is not great (I prefer the Spark) but it is adequate and always connects without issue.
