Boss Katana Artist MKII Guitar Amplifier

Cut through the mix with the Katana Artist MKII New for 2020, the Katana Artist MKII is part of the next generation of Boss Katana amps. The Katana Artist MKII is a professional 100-watt, 1x12 combo, with an analogue class-AB power amp, that builds upon the previous generation of Katana amps, with enhanced tone and exclusive features. Featuring a custom-designed 12' Waza speaker, the Katana Artist MK II gives you that classic British stack tone, with enhanced power handling. Thanks to the Boss Tube Logic design, the Katana Artist MKII has much more power than you would expect for an amp of its class and size, with presence and punch that cuts through the mix. The Katana Artist MK II also features a semi-closed back, for tighter and more focused tone, with rich low end. The Katana Artist MKII is the perfect choice of amp, no matter what style of music you play, with five amp characters (Acoustic, Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown), each of which has five variations, plus three variations each of Delay, Reverb, Mod, FX, and Booster. With the Tone Studio editor software, you're more in control of your tone than ever before - customise three switchable Global EQ settings, as well as over 60 Boss effects. Other features also include a switchable Solo function, series/parallel effect loop, speaker outs, power amp in, eight saveable Tone Settings, Power Control, Mic'd cabinet emulation, optional footswitch integration, and USB and phone/recording out.

Simply stunning amp. From clear cleans with loads of head room, to genuine dial/pick in dirt (really dynamic and responsive) to crunchy stack rock to Nuno-esque metal tones with crisp and sharp bottom end to all out thrash dirt. Probably even djents, but I don’t ;)Great at genuinely neighbour-friendly volumes and loud as hell if needed. Power control works great with 0.5 W, 50 W and 100 W modes.Simply to use stand-alone, but easy to run from computer and then millions more tones available.

I had heard many good things abot the Katana so i decided to try it for myself, and I wasn't dissapointed. It has a very responsive feel and reacts very mich like a valve amp in some respects, especially on the clean chanel. The options for this amp are endless when used in conjnction with the Boss Tone Studio. The only criticisism I have is that I spend a lot of time playing arond with different sounds and not enough time actally practicing, but that is more a fault of my own than the Katana's.Highly recommended.

This amp is fantastic. For someone that is so used to having different modellers, tube amps, multi fx and stompboxes this is now all I need. I've been meddling with allsorts kf gear for 17 years in my search for tone. I feel I am now at the end. Managed to dial in 4 very usable great sounding patches in minutes just using the front panel, something I've not been able to do with any amp or modeller in a while. It djents, it can do blues crunch, it can do straight rock grit, chimey clean, and just big standard chuggy metal very well. It's quite light, but when you turn up the volume you can feel air moving, like you can with a much bigger cab or with a valve amp. For a 1x12 it isn't boxy at all, very open sounding. The Waza speaker is very harsh in the top and highs to begin with when you first switch it on, but after a few hours use the speaker breaks in and the harsh highs all disappear. For someone that has always used Celestion V30's this Waza speaker is just amazing and I'm definitely leaving it as is! The dynamic response to picking and rolling your volume knob down is just how a valve amp responds - light picking = cleaner tones. Dig in with your pick and the amp comes alive.Fantastic all round amp, Boss really have nailed it with this one.

Boss Katana Artist MkII - Amazing!
9 September 2021

I've owned many amps and my main gigging amp has been a 1968 Deluxe Reverb for the past 20 years. Does it sound as good as the Fender? No, but it is very very close. This amp can do any sound you want and really feels and sounds like a tube amp in my opinion. I bought it because I wanted something more reliable and was tired of worrying about the Deluxe Reverb breaking down during a gig. I highly recommend the Boss Katana. It is not only great for the money that you pay, it is just generally a really great amp and a great value.

Do It All Amp
26 April 2022

Paired this head with my Zilla Cabs 2 x 12 and the sound quality and versatility is excellent. I have 4 well known valve amps, but I find that the Katana is more useful for home playing and practice, mainly because it's easier to get good tones from it at home volumes. It's handy having the Boss effects built in, certainly some of my dedicated pedals sound better but for home practice and recording, the Katana is a simpler plug and play solution. This is a great example of something that conforms to the 80/20 rule, if it does 80% of what I need, why waste time chasing down that other 20%? In fact, I'd say it's more like 90/10 in this case, the Katana MkII is a a great Swiss Army Knife of an amp.

BOSS created the product like a boss, and confirms it's the boss on this market.I own the old 50 watt Katana and the Katana Mini. Both are great. I bought a week ago KATAlist from some multi-Line company, and I am sending it back. That thing is good only for couch, while Katana is great for practicing, recording and life shows (assuming you will buy the foot controller). To summarize:- great sounding- very flexible- very nicely priced- relatively small and lightweightYou can't go wrong buying it.

I'm very impressed with the amp and it's certainly a massive upgrade to my previous one which served me well for many years. The tone and most importantly the feel of the Boss is way beyond what I expected and it is a joy to play through. A great purchase from a great retailer !!!

Max fun per buck
14 April 2021

I mean, why should you trust me - I don't know anything, I'm just an advanced beginner. BUT, what I can say is that this thing is just so much fun. It sounds awesome, goes stupidly loud, but still sounds great (to my untrained ear) at low volumes, and has so many effects that with this and a looper (and maybe an expression pedal at some point in the future), I really don't see how you need anything else unless you're a semi-pro. Fantastic investment and makes me want to play more and be better.

The SAK of amps.
19 August 2023

This amplifier is like a Swiss Army Knife! It has loads of sounds and potential settings and would keep knob twiddlers happy for days. I’m still getting to know it in truth but YouTube videos really help to explore what is possible. The amp itself is an amazing feat of engineering but then, add the on- line aspects such as the Tone Studio and the sky’s the limit; from clean, to crunch to Marshall vintage - it’s all there….. somewhere. The stock tones are great but I think that once I’ve settled on tweaking them to what I like, I probably won’t do much adjusting after that.

Using at home specific issues
30 November 2020

It is very good, but I have some problems with finding a good place for it at home. It requires access from all sides. Operating elements are on the top (and closer to the back side) and on the back-side surface as well. The biggest problem for me is power cable, it sticks out from the back side surface (standard PC power cable) and does not give to put it by the back side on the table or to the wall. In combination with that it is opened type (loudspeaker is open from the back) and if you have small children as well….it is a problem. Actually, it is designed for placing on the amp stand. Any way my comments are quite specific…..
