The NS2 effectively eliminates noise and hum of the input signal while preserving the original sound's tonality. The natural attack and envelope are unaffected thanks to Boss's unique noise detection circuit that precisely separates the guitar sound and the noise components. When connected to an AC adapter, the NS2 can supply power to 7 other Boss effects units via the PCS20A power connection cable(optional). h3About Boss Pedals/h3The history of Boss reads like the history of guitar effects. From their legendary CE-1 chorus pedal (the big gray box that started it all) to the world's favorite line of compact pedals, they've been responsible for more guitar innovations than just about anyone else. Boss's compact pedal line-up began in 1977 with the classic OD-1 Overdrive. Its warm, smooth overdrive sounds and breakthrough Boss pedal features (heavy-duty construction, rubber pads on top and bottom, recessed control knobs, silent switching, a built-in LED, and easy battery replacement) immediately set it apart from other stomp boxes on the market. It established the masterful design for all other Boss effects pedals since. Throughout the years, Boss has continued to define the cutting edge of guitar effects. Double-layer circuit boards allowed pedals like the DD-5 Digital Delay to deliver studio-quality effects comparable to rackmount units. They recently brought bassists and guitarists the first bass synthesizer in a compact pedal, the SYB-3. On their 20th anniversary they proudly introduced the OD-3 Overdrive, a pedal that takes the smooth, dynamic overdriven tones of the legendary OD-1 to a different level. Like all Boss products, it is a level of sound quality and durability that is unrivaled.

The Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor is the #1 Noise Suppressor on the market and has been for a very long time. The only other Noise Suppressor I can compare it to is the "ISP Decimator". The ISP is a mighty fine unit however it only has one knob. It does work well however the Boss NS-2 has (3) knobs and is more versatile. I have always found it amazing how the NS-2 can really clean up your guitar signal. You can make hiss and hum a thing of the past. Some guitarists say this pedal sucks tone but I completely disagree. I suppose it depends on how you set the pedal? One important note is I use my NS-2 right after my Boost, TS808, and OD-3 but before my modulation or time based effects which are a Boss CH-1 Super Chorus and my Boss DD-7 Digital Delay as both pedals are ... MoreThe Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor is the #1 Noise Suppressor on the market and has been for a very long time. Any noise I get is from the OD's. It also depends on what type of guitar and pickups I'm using. Don't forget "high quality" guitar cables are the way to go.

This is a must have if you have a multitude of effects esp. overdrives, distortions at high gains and volume. Any nuance of movement on a string and the cats are climbing the curtains and your pissing off your neighbors :-)BUT! with this suppressor your sloppy metal play is crisp and tight full of clarity and your sound is cleaned up.Must have for overdriven metal heads...

I play single coils, P90s with the occasional telecaster. So most situations I’m dealing with a hum of some kind, and when I saw a deal on this pedal I decided to try it out. Even though I’m not a high gain player, I set it up the recommended way with my drive pedal, compressor and wah in the loop, and I can not believe how transparent this thing is! The decay is smooth and natural and it is doing more than a simple noise gate. I recorded samples in my studio and it removes noise from the tail of chords but does not affect the tonality of the original signal at all. This is far better than I was expecting, and I feel I got an additional bonus getting a non-factory sealed discount. Knowing what I know now, I would gladly pay MSRP if I needed another. It’s that good!

It’s a boss so built to last a lifetime. Does the job of noise suppression perfectly. Cuts the noise from noisy pickups or pedalboards really well. I prefer this approach to others that cut abruptly at a point. The noise suppression is smoother at transition as opposed to a noise gate.
It's a huge compliment to any pedal board. If your tired of excessive hum, buzzing or just white noise especially when using multiple pedals on a pedal board this is the solution. I mated mine with a BOSS LS-2 Line Selector pedal at the start of my pedal chain so every pedal is covered by it. It allows instant quiet after quick aggressive picking starts and stops while using heavy distortion. It's a "Fire and Forget" pedal for the most part if your running the same gear regularly. It's a must have if you want clarity and certainly worth the space it takes up on your board. It's the magic behind the curtain.
You might be reading this after doing all the right things; good cables, isolated power supply, elimination of ground loops, etc., and yeah, that's exactly where you should start this journey in my opinion. Get rid of the cruft that's causing the bulk of your noise by building a quality system. However, once you start down that path, you're committed to it, and at some point you'll be looking for a solution to suppress the gain hiss that you'll be left with. This will do exactly that. It's simple, inexpensive, and works perfectly. Once the noise goes away, you'll realize just how much it was annoying you. Seriously, it's just night and day; I absolutely could not be without this pedal.
It's not a bad option in a pinch to substitute for an acoustic part when needed and you can't use the real thing. A song here and there only!! The trio I jam with on an occasional Saturday gave me a thumbs down because it doesn't cut thru the mix!! It does sound thin compared to a real acoustic guitar. As a result I doubt I'll keep it!! The acoustic effect in my Zoom MS50 stomp is almost as good....
I had watched some videos about this pedal on YouTube and I must say that I was not at all disappointed. What I especially like is that it is a quality, reliable pedal (BOSS) and this puts my mind at rest. And the price is great, too. Highly recommended!
This Boss NS-2 Noise Supressor is pretty amazing, by any standard! While typical "Noise Gate" pedals or pedals with a built-in noise reduction feature do somewhat adequately address the issue (you work out a compromise setting of noise reduction vs. tone reduction), the NS-2 is considerably closer to "no compromise". I view it as a "must" when using Hi-Gain pedals (esp. units like the Diezel VH4; which, besides now being noise-tamed, offer increased tonal range and adjustability); but it's so transparent, I can leave it on for clean tones with little penalty! While I did find the "threshold" control to be not very "progressive" (little effect until almost "dimed") while running a basic in/out series configuration on my pedal board (it may respond differently when ... MoreThis Boss NS-2 Noise Supressor is pretty amazing, by any standard! While I did find the "threshold" control to be not very "progressive" (little effect until almost "dimed") while running a basic in/out series configuration on my pedal board (it may respond differently when working with an amp "effects loop"), it turned out not to matter due to the aforementioned "tone retention" properties. I HIGHLY recommend!!
This is a modded NS-2 courtesy of Alchemy Audio. Magic might be too strong a word for how well this pedal works, but not by much. Its simply amazing; cuts the hiss right out of the sound when the boost, compression and/or OD pedals are engaged. Strongly recommended. The pedal costs $100 and Alchemy charge $50 for the mod; I bought this one for $75, used but who cares. The LED's are very, very bright - might need to put some tinted transparent stuff over them as I have with another Alchemy pedal - no biggie. Amazing value.
