I had a looper built in my Zoom G5n but had a hard time with the timing. I could never get it down. The RC-10R has visual aids with the LEDs which really helps with the changes.At first this unit was a little daunting but after a youtube tutorial and reading the included manual as well as another Boss has to download, I'm getting the hang of it. I've only had it for a couple days but it's no longer a head scratcher getting it to work. There are some settings you have to be aware of to get the unit to work the way you have in mind. It would be great if we could load in .WAV loops but all in all I'm happy with the unit.I'm still working on getting the timing just right but I am now able to loop and loop and loop. I'm surprised at how much this unit encourages me to improvise. I can see using this as an idea pad before I record in Logic.It will take a lot more time with this unit before I'm good enough to use it confidently in a live situation.I'm glad I bought this unit. Boss has a good product here.

A God send

This thing is great!! Syncs automatically with the push and hold of the rhythm switch! So easy to use. I don't know what these other reviews are doing but this thing is a God send for guitarist. So many beats to choose from. You can pick from 16 different drum kits to play them! 808+909 sounds too! Every a reverb for the drums.The looper is Boss. So you it's good. 6 hours is what you get. 99 slots to save loops. It has a 2 loop/rhythm function that makes it so you have a 2 part loop. More like a song then just a loop. The fills are a littler boring/mechanical. Only 2 per patch. Can use drum machine alone without a recorded loop. Just to jam. Or, just the loop for acoustic stuff etc....I'm buying a second one for my electric board! Ditched my BB and Rc5. This ... MoreThis thing is great!! This looper makes being home alone seem more fun than the movie. The addition of drums to a looper is great for those of us without davidos drum pad busking skills. Boss hooked it up with the ability to control loop and rhythm volumes separately as well as split the signal to a separate out for both or combined. The midi control is essential so glad they added it but the 1/8" trs is ignorant and the placement stinks too. It's a STOMP box. Why use the tiniest connectors that can break the easiest? Also pedalboard real estate is like beach front property. It's limited and you got to squeeze it all in. They put the instrument jacks out the top but dookied the bed when they put these ports in. Best option is you migrate this pedal to an edge of the board and hope your cable don't get sheered off. If not you'll have to get some 90 deg adapters to go with your special midi cables. Dont waste your time looking at a guitar center. You'll spend most your time looking at the empty racks tags to see if what you want is sold out or just poorly organized in another part of the store. Or you could ask a employee that isn't busy and is knowledgeable... let me know when you find one. You'd think they'd sell the cable that goes with all the boss pedals like this that they sell, about half a dozen of them, but then again you are thinking like a customer with convenience in mind and not an accountant with inventory issues. I dont know the percentage of people that utilize the midi feature but gc inventory says it aint enough...so chances are a used one hasnt had these ports used and stomped on. They are meant to be stepped on too so they are tough. No need to buy new. Especially because there are a lot of these online. This pedal is awesome. You should try to find one used online, while looking for cables and adapters.

Essential piece of gear!

It's been awhile since I've had the creative juices flowing; this looper has definitely helped! After doing exhaustive research, watching videos and reading reviews, I decided this was the one. Why? Sound quality and reliability. Sure, at first it might not be the easiest out there the use but one you get the hang of it, it works! I like the stereo capabilities. Worked like a champ with my pedalboard and now experimenting using it with my Helix.was able to capture my idea for a song and take with me to a friends place for a jam. Love the storage amount too! Is it perfect, no but it will get the job done. Wish it were easier to create a "drone" type background for progressive rock type music.

The unit is tricky to use. It requires a good bit of practice to get it to do what it is supposed to. I have not used all of the functions yet but as an out of the box looper with rhythm, I am a little disappointed. The drums do sound good with useful realistic fills. I also use a beat buddy and I intend to use both. As a solo acoustic musician, I don't always need the loop effect and the beat buddy has a larger library and a faster menu to negotiate. The looper is tricky to use in that you can't be off at all on your timing as it won't sync. The other thing I found is you need to use longer loops so that you don't drift out of time with the drums due to accumulative loop recycles. In live performance, you do need to practice with the unit because if your off, you have to erase and start over which could be embarrassing. Also on the other end, if you are off time ending the loop too soon it will throw it out of sync as well. It is a good practice tool though. Im not sending the unit back because I think I can work with it for my needs. I have not tried to build the sequence as depicted on the Boss sample video so I would suspect that would be even more tricky to get right. Lastly you must be purposeful on the buttons as the unit can get confused if you don't hit the buttons solidly. In as far as quality, it is a Boss built like a tank pedal and will likely last for many years. I have Boss pedals that I have had for well more than ten years of hard use and they still work great.

Nice little practice looper

This thing is great for practicing on your own. The drum patterns are great, but I downloaded the software and could import my own MIDI drum files from Logic, and that just made this thing 1000x better. You can record one section for a verse, and then record a second section for a chorus and easily switch between the two sections. I'm sure people could easily perform with this thing too, it seems a solo artists could come up with a decent set based around this looper.

Super fun looper with lots of applicability

This looper is really easy to use. I was making loops with it 2 mins after plugging it in. The built in drum beats sound amazing- it's great for jamming with yourself or writing music. Its also really useful in a live setting. I used it as background music during the end of a service, letting the loop take the chord progression so I could play and sing on top of it. It took me 15 seconds to get the loop set up. The individual volume controls for the loop(s) and the drums make it viable for use when performing so you can get the mix just right, even as a solo performer from the stage. Great product and 10/10 would buy again!

The Rhythm part alone is worth it

I use this product to create loops to gig with. The sound quality is superb. I like tracking to the MANY drum loops and the kit selections make it suitable for just about any style. The drum and percussion patterns are widely varied and useful. It's is a great drum machine and I like using it in the studio for easy creation of rhythm parts without getting lost in a huge list from wav packages. The downside is, it's not ideal for creating apart with drums live because of all the menus to scroll. It takes a couple hours to get the hang of navigation but the level of customization of each loop is amazing. With all these selections come at the price of time and in live situation you just can't spent time in setting up all the parameters. Very good rhythm and looper pedal for songwriters.

I had a BeatBuddy as a drum machine and HXStomp is used as amp modeller and looper. In this configuration I struggled to sync them when recording a loop. The RC10R solves this problem in sync mode. There is a large range of drum bears to choose from as well as the ability to create your own beats which I haven’t tried yet. I deducted a star because the drum performances are not as varied, dynamic and articulate as the BeatBuddy but I’m happy with the compromise to aid in songwriting. I have a midi controller and aim to program it to control the loop functions but I’m struggling because there isn’t a decent video showing how to do this on the RC10R. Boss are not very good at producing tutorial videos.
