This is a great live unit. Gave it 4 stars as not quite clean enough for high-end recording. Also I'm not using this for vocals - I use it as a processor for flute to add reverb, echo, compression, etc. This unit works great for any instrument that plays into a mic like woodwinds, brass, symphonic instruments, etc. It gives you the ability to cater your own sound and unlike most instrument FX units, it takes a standard XLR mic input instead of the usual TRS/TS connections like on guitar FX units.Very flexible and portable for working musicians.

Bought as an effects pedal for saxophone. Had read good reviews but exceeded expectations. Very robust. Easy to understand instructions and intuitive settings. Very pleased with the actual effects.

After a few mediocre and one downright terrible vocal processor, the Boss VE-20 manages to have great effects and good editing features while also being simple to program yourself provided you read the manual. The presets are good and get you singing right out of the box, the looper feature is operated by literally three button presses, and navigation and menu diving is streamlined to be as hassle free as possible. The real shining light for me has got to be the distortion effects. Ive never been able to run distortion on vocals without getting huge amounts of feedback from the PA. I dont know why, I dont know how, but as I brought the Boss to the studio a couple days ago, the volume was cranked and I received absolutely no feedback from the monitors. I think there ... I think there might be some kind of gate within or a limiter of some sort, but Im just happy it works so well!

This pedal is a must have for vocalists anywhere. It really makes your voice shine right out of the box, the basic effects are already good enough for many occasions. On top of that, it has a huge capacity for user created banks and allows all kinds of adjustments and effects to be put together. It also has a loop function! Hard to be better. Down points? Maybe it is not that easy to understand/use at first impact and the screen is kinda small and simple, but that is just me trying to find problems where they don't exist. TL/DR this is a BOSS/ROLAND product with all the quality you expect from these brands.
I've always had a hard time adjusting my vocal EQ to cut through the other sounds going through the PA, and with the presets of this pedal I was able to do just that. Plenty of people that have seen my band perform said that my vocals sounded better than ever. The pedal is easy enough to use in a live setting. I can change the presets and user settings by long holding the right pedal and then moving up or down with the appropriate pedal: left down, right up. The main effect that I use to boost is the duplicator. The harmonizer works well, but I would need to dial in the key of the song that I'm performing, and I don't have the time between songs to do that. The menu has a bit of a learning curve, but once I found the pattern I was able to adjust a lot of the presets ... The pedal is battery powered or AC with the recommended special Boss adapter. I'm powering *it with my daisy chain power supply to my other pedals. If anyone wants to do that, make sure that your power supply mA is greater than the pull of amps from the combination of all of the pedals on the chain.
I really love the effects on this pedal, there is various sounds that are fun. One thing you need to be aware of is that the batteries do die quickly so it's best to buy the cord that's designated for the machine. But I really love it and it adds a lot of flair to my sets. I would recommend most definitely. I hope to win the thousand dollars. I am funny.
Tested this for both live performance, and recording. The overall Product was disappointing in both situations.Recording: The electronic, Kanye style, pitch correct was fun to play around with, but the chromatic pitch correct was unreliable, so I guess you've gotta only sing notes that are in the key you choose.Live performance: This product bills itself as being user friendly for the instrument playing vocalist, but that is only true if you are going to sing in the same key for an entire set. Changing the key is kind of a complex process, especially if you are using pitch correct AND harmonies, but it is to big and heavy to set on a standard music stand.
Overall:I love to sing at church but also like to sound as good as possible. Never owned a pedal like this but it had such great reviews and thought I'd give it a try. Has alot of features that are worthless but the ones for vocals is pretty amazing. Not having a chord to plug it into is a drag but at least it came with batteries. I love this thing and the way it makes ur voice sound when u put it on the vocal controls is what makes this thing worth the money. It is fun to go through all the functions but I only really use the vocal control for the pedal and that alone was worth the money. I am very very pleased with this product and would Highly encourage anyone looking for a vocal pedal to get this one.
This pedal has very limited uses if you are planning to use this on stage. I was initially excited to play with this thing and hoped it would add a new dimension to my vocals but when I started going through the presets I realized that none of them were very practical. It gives you a ton of reverb options but as anyone who has ever played a show knows, there is already reverb in the venue so using your own on-board reverb on top of that is just going to muddy up your sound. The harmony presets are all useless to me and sound fake anyway. The "pitch correction" was another feature I was excited about but it doesn't do a great job and will often lock on to the wrong notes unless you have perfect pitch (Which i definitely do not). So with all that being said what is left is the chorus effect, doubling effect, flanging effect, tremolo effect and delay effect that are actually useful live. So I guess if you use a bunch of flange, chorus, and tremolo in your vocals, this pedal might be alright. Oh while I'm at it another thing I didn't think about that I wish I had before getting this pedal. If you're playing guitar and singing at the same time (like myself), changing presets is a pain in the butt and near impossible. You have to hold down the 2nd pedal for 2 seconds and then you can scroll through the presets then holding the pedals down again to lock on to the new preset.. you have to ask yourself.. are you really going to have time and coordination to do that while right in the middle of a song? Probably not... I'm sad this thing didn't meet my needs because I was excited about it but it's just not very practical at the end of that day.
I reccomend downloading the manual. It will be much easierto read and work with as this pedal can do a lot.I am a solo guy with guitar. Country, blues, popular songs.I just need one good batch of settings for my voice all night.I have been using the Boss VE2 for several years.I like the simplicity and the harmonies sound good. However for whatever reason I would like more variationson the reverb, delay, pitch correct, compression, (Yes dynamicsis compresson)This pedal is a vocal pedal first and harmony pedal second. The pedal has every possible adjustment you can make to your voice. If you are not familuar with studio adjustments the presets will help youfind something quickly but there is so much more you can doto find your perfect voice with it.As ... For example I have a song that goes E, F#m, G#m. I won't be using it on that song. Standard 1,4,5 type songs it's not bad. But it does have several adjustments to each seperate voice of your harmony. So for example you can have the doubleharmony one volume and the 3rd another volume and so on. Really nice. Plus your can vari the genders.Overall this unit far surpassed my expectations for finding thevoice of what I thought I should sound like for the night which is the reasonI bought it. I'll use the harmonies here and there and its no problem to benddown to change the keys. Just push the right arrow button and with the dialknob find the key.
