Great machine, and very easy to use once you get the grind settings dialed in. There's a walkthrough in the setup menu for doing just that. The sweet spot for the grind setting and time will vary depending on the beans used. So you'll likely need to make adjustments when using a new batch of beans. Early on, you'll likely be prompted to grind a bit more one or two times after tamping, but the machine does learn quickly and adjust the grind level so eventually it will hit the target nearly all of the time. The self-purging feature on the steaming wand is marvelous, and there's a very handy storage tray to hold brushes and filter baskets that fits behind the drip tray, which itself has a nice roomy capacity. The milk pitcher has minimum and maximum levels marked, but it's left up to the user to decide how much to use. The minimum mark is about 4 ounces, more than needed for some drinks. Smaller amounts can be done manually. When filling the water reservoir, the max level is quite high, so water can slosh out if you aren't very careful when carrying it by the handle.Overall it is a 5 star machine. I love the look and the functionality of this unit.

Excellent machine but might leave you wanting.

Grinding and tamping are of course manual with this unit, and even more controllable when using weighed does instead of filling the hopper and relying on a timed grind (also cleaner and typically less wasteful) It’s worth noting that milk steaming can be performed manually by simply lifting the wand upward 45° and while the automated process generally does an excellent job, being able to engage in the process manually when desired is ... MoreBreville made a quality product in the Barista Touch, a well crafted, exceptionally fast to heat up, beginner friendly product that can yield solid espresso shots with little effort (though perhaps with a bit of research if it’s your first machine). Wand purging can be performed by simply taping the milk button and is understandably apart of the touch interface instead of a lever on the side of the machine. Here’s however where I find myself wishing for a degree more control over brew settings and utilization of presets. While brew temperature is adjustable via the settings menu, the specific temperature isn’t explicitly denoted, changing which is a system wide change and is not linked to your presets (which I feel would make for a nice enrichment). Another missed configuration is pre infusion time which unfortunate cannot be set with this machine. A manual brewing mode can be enable by holding down the brew button but to my understanding simply removes the timer and auto stop features. Overall this is a well designed espresso machine that is certainly worth considering should it be within your budget. The Barista Touch is best suited to those who are seeking to primarily automate milk steaming. While the touch screen is nice and interface intuitive, the preset / custom saved drink configurations are slightly underwhelming outside of automated milk steaming. As the title insinuates, excellent machine but by being halfway between automated and manual, might leave you wishing you biased your purchase towards one camp or the other.

Having that hands-free minute allows for a quick clean up. The foam levels are each slightly different but all are pretty smooth micro foam. This is a beautiful machine and worth the upgrade.

Good espresso machine. Maybe it needs some improvements?

I bought the Breville Barista Touch espresso machine a couple of months ago. My wife insisted in "upgrading" our Nespresso Breville espresso machine and milk frother. I was very happy with it and served us perfectly fine. The new Barista Touch is good looking but....1. It has one grinder, and it is not an easy task to use more than one type of coffee beans. My wife is breastfeeding, so she cannot drink caffeine. We tried buying an additional bean hopper, but there is plenty of coffee bean residue in the grinder and cleaning it between grindings is a time consuming task. We were forced to buy a separate Breville grinder to try to prevet cross-contamination. It is still not 100% better as there is always residue left in the group head.2. There is only one milk frother. Again, my wife can not drink dairy products as our son has milk protein allergy. She has to use non-dairy milk and creamers. Therefore, to prevent any cross-contamination, I had to start drinking non-dairy milk and creamers.3. There is a large amount of water consumed on the auto clean process of the milk frothing wand.4. There is a very small water receptacle to catch the water from the cleaning wand process and any spills. It gets filled very promptly, like after 4 cups and wand cleanings.5. There is a very small water tank that makes about 4 cups of coffee and the four cleaning wand process. It contains less water if you are using the big filter like we are due to water hardness.6. The coffe maker is very compact, which is good, but too compact to be practical. You cannot fit a regular coffee cup and the milk frothing jug at the same time. One or the other.I would think that this machine is good for a single person, that does not have to rush to go to work. It is a time consuming process to make coffee on this machine, and it requires constant cleaning. Otherwise, it makes good tasting coffee.I have not had it long enough to attest its longevity, but previous Breville products have proven to be reliable.

On our third machine

Having spend over £1000 on our Barista Touch, we expected decent coffee from a robust machine. I can confirm that it fulfilled the decent coffee element….when it was working. Within a few months of usage it developed a number of faults - flaky paintwork, temperamental power button, leaking water tank and eventually it just stopping pouring coffee. We sent it away for repair twice, each time taking minimum of 2 weeks of nightmare logistical organisation, plus hooooours on the phone to Sage. Eventually we get a new machine approved, yay! Not yay… the exact same thing happened. Plus now sage want £260 deposit to send out another machine. But we’ve had months of rubbish instant coffee whilst dealing with the constant issues. I’ve honestly lost the fight in me to report our latest power button fault. If you want lovely coffee, go ahead and get yourself a Sage machine. But I hope by reading this honest review, I’ve helped someone avoid all the stress and wasted time I’ve dealt with. And worst of all, I’ve had to manage it all without decent coffee!

We’ve had a bean to cup maker for a while but because it made about 8 cups you ended up drinking it all and it just lost flavour and lacked variety.I wanted store bought coffees at home and this machine really does deliver. It DOES take getting used too, we’ve gone through many bags of beans all in the quest for that “aaaaaw” cuppaI read some reviews before committing and someone mentioned they wished the machine had a backlight- admittedly when I read that I thought it was a bit OTT, BUT on many occasions that wish has been shared.I also wished this machine was mains connected as you do end up refilling it often and because the machine is rather heavy it’s not something you wish to pull back and forth often. The other thing I wish this machine had was another sensor for the beans. The amount of times I’ve gone to make a cup simply for the machine to run out of beans. For all these reasons I’ve given it 4 stars but this is personal preference. The machine does come fully loaded with little extras such as descaling solution, cleaning tablets etc.The magnetically held temper and the additional baskets are all great features. This machine will look great on any surface it’s certainly an excellent addition to our home and we’ve been loving the variety of drinks. It’s an all round great machine and I’m very glad we have it, it’s worth it!

Two words - Fiddly and Disappointing
19 May 2024

After a month using the Barista Touch Pro my overwhelming feeling is one of disappointment. It's really not lived up to expectations and I definitely have more than a touch of buyers remorse.Firstly, everything is just so "fiddly"! Fitting the water filter? Fiddly. Refilling with water. Very fiddly with a dash of irritation at the poor design of the tank lid. Grinding coffee, tamping, getting the coffee levels exactly right. Fiddly, messy and time consuming. You DO NOT just press a button, tamp and be good to go. There is a lot of faffing about with partially grinding, levelling, grind some more, tamp, use the razor to remove any excess - mostly onto the kitchen worktop - them tamp again. The coffee is reasonable although, again, a lot of tweaking, making notes ... MoreAfter a month using the Barista Touch Pro my overwhelming feeling is one of disappointment. But only after you buy new coffee cups. Ours were too tall to fit and your average coffee mugs are, you guessed it, fiddly, to fit, line up and the remove when filled. The feature I am now using the most is the steam wand to heat and froth milk... That's pretty good for making hot chocolate.

I have had a generally good experience. The interface is easy and quick, and warmup is basically instant. It’s a thoughtfully built machine. The machine doesn’t seem set up for weighing beans or yield, everything defaults to time-based grinding/brewing, which is not ideal for when you’re pursuing a consistent shot. You can do the same timing twice and the yield will not be the same every time. The grinder retention is pretty wild at first if you’re trying to single dose a weighed 18g. I have about 3g retained on the first run, then grinds get caked to the insides of the grinder, filling that empty space and retention falls dramatically after that. But whenever you thoroughly clean the grinder, you’re back to having to fill that space again with grinds. So, I’m ... MoreI have had a generally good experience. Ive used this machine for two years so I know all about this machine. First off, the touch screen is a gimmick. Its totally useless and an expensive feature that really adds nothing to they use of the machine. Go with a different line.As for the actual espresso, it is inconsistent and filling requires dialing in constantly. If you are really specific in how your want your shots to come out (ie 18g of grounds=36g of espresso in about 30-40 seconds) you will be going through a lot of grounds just to finally get the one you want. Even after using the same exact beans day in and day out each morning the shots would come out differently.Automatic steamer is ok, but really far too frothy and not the creamy texture you really want. I spent a lot of time researching for the best espresso machine I could find without spending a fortune on a professional one. I am not dissatisfied with my purchase at all. Obviously the first month was mostly a lot of trial and error as I was learning and trying to figure it out. Buying different beans puts you back to the drawing board to get everything dialed in. But once your initially setup it’s easier to figure out. If you enjoy a quality coffee beverage this is a great choice. An average time for a latte to make and cleanup is typically 5min. So in comparison to a nespresso machine or keureg it takes a bit more time but you also get a lot better quality than coffee brewed through plastic cartridge.Only complaints I’d have on this machine would be that I wish there was an option to run a water line to it vs having to refill the tank. It’s got enough for several drinks but I like to preheat and run empty cycles for better results. Another thing that isn’t necessarily a problem is that you can only do one thing at a time. Meaning while your espresso is brewing you cannot froth your milk. Not something I thought would be an issue but now that I’ve learned and got it dialed in.. that would cut down on the average time. Other than those minor desires this thing is solid!Be prepared to spend a bit of time to get dialed in. The machine is not hard to use, it’s the different things that you have the ability to change to get it right to your taste. I grew frustrated cause I was making espresso just not good espresso. And at first I thought it was the machine, not the case. It was the settings I had changed for different coffee beans so it’s a science and variables to get it right. Some of those variables: Water hardness (set up with initial setup of machine), brew temp (automatic setting from factory but you can change it if needed), grind setting (on screen), internal grind setting (inside machine under hopper), coffee bean, portafilter temp, how hard you tamp the grind, etc. Some variables are standard variables with any espresso machine but when all the experience you have is a standard coffee pot and some Folgers it’s a learning curve.
