The Breville Compact Smart oven is a life saver in my household. I’ve had it for 10 years and it is still going strong. From a quick breakfast to toast bread or bagels to a standing rib roast for 4 people. The Breville is my go-to appliance, specially when I want to roast a cut of meat (it does a magnificent full chicken) and I need to use the bigger oven for roasting veggies. It also works well with frozen pizza or with fresh dough prepared by yourself. I’ve also baked cakes and they come out great. I have nothing but positive feedback for the longevity of this toaster oven and Breville products in general. I have had this toaster oven for at least 7 years, possible longer. It still works as though it’s brand new. Even cooking and it heats up very quick. The smaller size is desireable as it takes up less space on the counter. Perfect for cooking for 2 people and if you are limited on space. I can fit 2 chicken breasts on the pan provided. It’s a nice option for hot days when you don’t want to turn on your big oven. Also multi cook options are a nice feature ; broil, bake reheat, etc. Breville products are a-lot more expensive but they last a long time and they are also esthetically appealing

Woke up to find "E01" on display, which the manual says is a non reset-able error code and to contact support. Pretty disappointing experience when your toaster oven is just unusable :/Haven't heard back in three days from support. I assume this is covered under warranty, HOWEVER the support page FAQ says you need to ship the unit back FIRST then wait for them to decide how to repair or replace it, then wait again for them to ship the replacement unit.Sounds like when an issue pops up, you'll be waiting at least a couple of weeks for a resolution while your toaster sits unusable. With this in mind, I would definitely not recommend this product. When it works well, it's great, but it's just not worth it knowing how difficult service will be.Here are the issues ... MoreWoke up to find "E01" on display, which the manual says is a non reset-able error code and to contact support. With this in mind, I would definitely not recommend this product. When it works well, it's great, but it's just not worth it knowing how difficult service will be.Here are the issues with this product:- no internal light, and it's very hard to see all the way to the back of the unit.- the door slams shut and is quite loud- interface/buttons are awkward to use. Pressing the button to change between number of slices and time setting is a bit annoying at times.- You can't just toss some bread in and press a button for toast. You have to make sure the settings are the same (select number of slices, then desired "time"). Hard to get consistency when it's unclear what changes between slice count and time setting (ex: 3 slices at setting 4 isn't the same as 2 slices at 4).

Everything's great until it isn't -E01 Error Code

I purchased this Breville smart oven B0V650XL back in late August and received it in early September 2021 from Williams Sonoma.I use it almost daily; It does a good job, I use mostly on the bake, bagel, and toast settings. But after owning this for a little over 6 months (now in April 2022), this morning I heard several loud beeps after using it and then it displayed the error code "E01".According to Breville, this occurs when there is a "non-resettable issue with the appliance and should this occur, immediately remove the power cord from the outlet and call the Breville Service Customer Center."After a quick search of the internet, this error code E01 indicates an issue with the thermal fuse.(I was toasting bread for 2 minutes previous to the error code - ... MoreI purchased this Breville smart oven B0V650XL back in late August and received it in early September 2021 from Williams Sonoma.I use it almost daily; It does a good job, I use mostly on the bake, bagel, and toast settings. But after owning this for a little over 6 months (now in April 2022), this morning I heard several loud beeps after using it and then it displayed the error code "E01".According to Breville, this occurs when there is a "non-resettable issue with the appliance and should this occur, immediately remove the power cord from the outlet and call the Breville Service Customer Center."After a quick search of the internet, this error code E01 indicates an issue with the thermal fuse.(I was toasting bread for 2 minutes previous to the error code - certainly NOT using the oven at it's highest setting - broil).I unplugged the oven, and plugged it back in and it appears to work - although I'm not going to use it, the outlet works as well; since it's still under warranty, I will contact Breville… fill out a "case report".Ironically, my other brand Deluxe Toaster Oven was still working fine after 5 years, I wanted something newer only because some of the other brand's label /decals had worn off over time. (although by then I knew the buttons from memory).Oh, the hassle & time consumption of dealing with stuff like this.If you buy this, make sure you buy the extended warranty!

Just Enough

We are two-person middle aged Northern household with aging slide-in gas oven/range with open burner that works in power outage. We want a duel fuel unit, but this toaster oven is our stop-gap. The Breville Compact Smart toaster oven for over one month has been "so far, so good." This replaces 20-year-old analog (no screen, all dials) toaster oven from large discount retailer. We chose this one over all-dial type because these numbers for temperature, etc. are good for aging eyes. But when you set dial to "toast" for example screen does not say "toast." It gives darkness level and number of slices. But dial has an indentation which you can feel. So one of us made "flash card" of blown up dial setting words for when glasses not handy and keep it in table drawer. ... MoreWe are two-person middle aged Northern household with aging slide-in gas oven/range with open burner that works in power outage. So one of us made "flash card" of blown up dial setting words for when glasses not handy and keep it in table drawer. Instructions DID come with! Has little rounded punch out in back for 12 inch pizza, which was a requirement. Bought online a couple 10 inch square sheet pans to make a few cookies at a time. (The roasting pan included is designed not completely flat, which is fine.) Boxy but angles are softened by adding coordinating breadboard/ trivet. We really love warming two plates on the flat metal top, though, so if you buy breadboard, have another place to put it sometimes. We hate that the appx. 1-and-1/2-inch square led screen lights cold white for 10 minutes after off alarm sounds and "end" flashes on screen. Then it goes darkish again with word "standby." (How about an amber dot instead? We are forced to cover the white screen with hardware store fridge magnet we store on side of oven.) Screen is orange/amber while on, which we like. Alarm is cute like traveling alarm clock. We carefully considered our purchase over a year's time and visited different stores and online shopping and review sites. This toaster oven won out because the unit seems quality and it does not overwhelm the space. Also plan to use on a smaller table on covered porch in hot months. For now, we are asking a lot of a toaster oven!

Nice compact size. Multi function.

Great little oven. Single female. Decided on compact vs mini as I wondered if mini would get too hot. Same 1800 wattage. I’m not a chicken skin, French fry, or pizza person so air fryer functions made no sense to upgrade to such a large space hogging size. So far everything is great, looks in less time and still Lear I g to adjust cook times. Wish they included that in the manual. It would be very helpful. Using roasting function for meat, mostly turkey tenderloin and veggies but may try on bake function as heat element function the same. Salmon was my first attempt and it came out perfect. May try a small chicken. Oven gets warm but less than the big oven and cools down quickly. Surprised at how little heat it throws off but I think it’s because my average time to ... MoreGreat little oven. Single female. Decided on compact vs mini as I wondered if mini would get too hot. Oh and the bagel function is perfect for me at level 1. Lightly toasted. 3rd attempt they came out a little darker but I had left them in toaster after they were fine.

Quality Construction & Easy To Use
21 May 2023

This is a very solid feeling toaster oven. It came double boxed and well protected. It's VERY easy to use and I really like that all the presets are customizable (which it remembers until unplugged). It heats up quickly and cooks evenly, although for pizzas or fish, you'll typically want to turn the food half way through baking. My English muffins have never toasted so evenly as they do with the 650XL.I also like that the chime alert is not too loud or long, just three quick beeps of just the right volume to get your attention, but won't wake the neighbors. And finally, it's super easy to clean (love the huge easy to access crumb tray).I'm very happy with this purchase. I bought this Compact Smart Oven expecting it to have better features than the $50 one I've had for the last ten years. I will say that the oven heats fast and cooks well, makes perfect toast in a jiffy.. For the price though, I would have expected a few more simple design features that would have made it SO much better. For instance, the door-- there is no spring damping to keep it from slamming shut really hard-- so hard that it is alarming and seems cheap. They should've added some kind of damping or hinge geometry that would allow you to leave the door open a crack when things are cooling off inside. You cannot leave the door ajar even a little-- my other oven had that feature and it was appreciated. You cannot leave the door ajar even a little-- my other oven had that feature and it was appreciated. Also missing on this model is any form of convection fan-- there's none, and you're left to the natural heat circulation with no option to add convection circulation. The feel of the temperature control knob is really cheap and loose. So much so that I returned the first oven thinking that it was assembled incorrectly. The replacement oven they sent me had the same loose feeling knob, so I guess that that's just how its built. Again, at this price it should have a better fit and feel to it. The non-stick coating inside the oven is black-- not a problem EXCEPT that there is no interior light in this thing! Its so dark inside that you have to open the door to check on cooking progress. A light would have made a lot of sense considering the black interior. Overall I would give this a 6/10 rating on features-- But it does do a good job of cooking and toasting, I'll give it that.

I bought this Compact Smart Oven to replace my old Black and Decker toaster oven. It has a lot more features and has a bit of a learning curve due to the options. I would not recommend spending the money if you want only a toaster. One of the main reasons I wanted this oven was to bake small batches of biscuits, cookies, stuff like that. The main problem I had with the Black and Decker toaster oven was that when you choose bake, both the top and bottom elements operated causing your baking project to overcook or sometimes burn the top. So you had to pay attention to cover it with aluminum foil at the right time. Thinking that this Compact “Smart” Oven would operate like a conventional oven and solve this problem proved wrong.
