Why didn't you post my review? In short, the machine is just okay. Has many functions but the manual is lacking many fine details especially when it comes to using the pourover adapter and lacks explanation of whether using My Brew settings applies to single cup (less than 20-ounce) or also applies to brewing over 40 ounces. Does not explain what happens if using basket filter if brewing less than 20 ounces. Once, after about 3 months (I've had it since June 2022) the over ice and cold brew functions disappeared from LCD even though I had less than 20 ounces of water in tank. I very gently poked my finger on the screen at bottom of tank and the functions reappeared and so far issue hasn't came back. Also I don't recommend using a Kalita-185 with pourover adapter as the basket overflows every time. This is regardless of what grind size and what flow rate you use. I spoke with support and they just kept saying I should use a coarser grind. I have a Vario-886 with ceramic burrs that Baratza fitted with metal burr carriers. It is calibrated to factory specifications but it doesn't matter how coarse I set grind the Kalita-185 still overflows even with smallest of dose. At the price point I cannot recommend the machine. Especially since tech support is so poor.

Good news is I purchased a bunch of filters and the best to use with the funnel filter is Melitta brown #4. Without the funnel, I like the large white ones provided; however, I ordered Melitta 8-12 cup and while it works they are very shallow (not deep like the ones which comes with the unit). For the single cup I bought Hario #02 but I doubt I ever use it. We like a full pot and not sure I'll take the time to figure out how to configure the single cup.I flushed the unit according to the directions. On to the positive:Been using it daily for over a month now. I fill the carafe to the Max line and fill up coffee maker. We are liking the bean grinder six cup amount. Measuring according to directions was 9 or 10 and too strong. Six is strong enough and smooth using the Gold setting on the front. I haven't moved it since. It takes about 7 or 8 minutes to brew and it's not loud at all, in fact I like hearing it brewing after using French Press all these years. Easier to clean too. Some complained about water in the filler remaining after it's done. I watched and all the water emptied and then some type of slight backflush put some water back. Not a big deal. I take two paper towels and fold until it fits into the bottom drain. While I'm throwing out filter and rinsing filter housing, the water in the drain is now dry. I flip the paper towel over and soak up other parts. Squeeze out water in drain then I use wet paper towel to clean the shower housing, filter housing holder and the bottom of unit. Then I keep the filler top off for rest of day to ensure it dries. Much easier and faster and better tasking than french press. We're happy and it just fits under out cabinets. I'm picky and don't have any complaints.

I really like the versatility of the product and it makes great coffee. I used the option to make a travel size mug every day for six months but then the coffee stopped coming out and ran all over the counter. I couldn't figure out what happened to the Drip stop lever, so just switch to always using the carafe. But now the coffee exploded through the top of the coffee pot. The showerhead and shower head ring were in the coffee filter. I only use filtered water and always descale when the pot tells me too. I cleaned up the showerhead and put things back together, but now a few weeks later, the same thing happened! Only this time I can't find the showerhead ring. I've owned this machine for over 3 years and use it daily. Honestly, it has become somewhat of a treasured possession (Christmas gift from my wife), so I figured I owed it to Breville to submit a quick endorsement.I typically brew around 20oz, using the conical filter basket insert on the Gold setting (unfortunately, my wife is just not a coffee drinker, so I feel I rarely get to flex the machine to its full capabilities). I've brewed as little as 15oz with the same setup and as much as 60 with the gold filter basket because of friends visiting. On every occasion, my machine has brewed a delicious pot of coffee. I've brewed as little as 15oz with the same setup and as much as 60 with the gold filter basket because of friends visiting. On every occasion, my machine has brewed a delicious pot of coffee. There is good adjustment to be had with different settings (make sure you adjust the setting for which size brewing basket you're using, for example), and the cold brew feature is a fun change of pace as well. For maintenance, I run a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar/water through once every few months...aside from wiping down the machine, washing the parts, and occasionally removing the seal ring (the water sprayer thingy) to clean, that is all the care that has been required. Although a bunch of the parts are dishwasher safe, I don't recommend it, as some dishwashing pods seem to have lingering aromas/tastes that they leave around on plastic parts. To address some of what I have read in other reviews:- Yes, you may have a small (tiny) amount of water sit in the very bottom of the tank where the wire screen is.- Yes, the top of the carafe is hard to empty completely because of the plastic lip of the handle.- Yes, if you put 20oz of water in, you will not get 20oz back into the carafe- I can't speak on temperature issues, but I've never had anyWhile I quickly recognized most of these shortcomings, they just have never really become an issue. With regular use, the water in the bottom has never gotten nasty or caused a problem. I make sure I clean the underside of the carafe lip well with a sponge and rinse thoroughly, never had a problem with the few drops of water that may remain. And of course, any coffee maker is going to have a small amount of water left in the filter/grounds...I add in a little extra water to compensate if I want that exact amount. Not to minimize what other people are saying, I have just never had an issue with those things.Well done, Breville. I am happy to see that this machine is still in production and hope you continue to support it for years to come.

Lots of features but short on how to use the features.
2 September 2022

I've had BDC455BSS since 06\28\22. It's a nice machine, with lots of features that allow for customization as well as capability, with special adapter, for automated pourover. However, there is very, very little in the manual that explains how to use features such as the Over Ice mode. For example, does Over Ice mode require brewing into the provided carafe or can I use a carafe without a top and can I use Over Ice mode to make Japanese iced coffee (James Hoffman recipe). Do the My Brew settings like the bloom time, flow rate, and temperature settings also affect the Over Ice mode or just the My Brew with pourover off or on modes? Great machine if you don't mind just blindly using the product without any real explanation of what the settings can and cannot do. At the current price there should be much better support. I've scoured the internet and YouTube to find demos using the Over Ice mode and My Brew mode with and without pourover but I've found nothing except the standard push the start button after putting the water and coffee in the machine. This product has been available for several years and I'm surprised there are no indepth functional reviews. As a result I cannot recommend purchasing the machine.

This unit is actually a replacement for the original one I bought a few months old. It was sent to me because my carafe lid broke (kind of fragile) and it is not available as a spare part and the carafe was on backorder. So the company sent me a completely new unit which is great customer service. In general I am very pleased with this unit, the temperature is important to me since it makes a big difference depending on the beans you use.The blooming timer is great too.I have a few suggestions that could improve this product:1) The spring loaded "bump" on the carafe lid is not really necessary and seems to be very fragile. I think this could be simplified.2) I would like to see on additional lower flow rate to add some "robustness" to the flavor.3) I ... MoreThis unit is actually a replacement for the original one I bought a few months old. I bought this coffee machine because I actually attended the UC Davis coffee chemistry class as an elective in undergrad. When I saw the "Gold settings" and how it was up to the standards UC Davis Coffee Center standards I figured it would be a good machine. I was very wrong. I have tried different grind sizes, different water temperatures, diffrent filters, different bloom times, but not matter what is done the coffee always comes out extremely watery (my theory is there is something wrong with bloom time/sensor). Sadly what is even more worse then the coffee brewed is the customer service. I have called over 5 times and have yet to get anyone on the phone about this. At this point I have paid $350 for a paper weight taking up my counter space. I've gone through about 4 different highly rated coffee makers and I've settled on the Breville. It is the smartest of them all. The construction is sturdy and the parts slide in and out easily. Cleanup is also quite easy. The only flaw is that the shower head is small and has fewer holes as compared to the other machines that I tried. Still, all the other features of this one kind make up for that. This is easily fixable by Breville as the shower head is removable and all Breville has to do is add more holes on the perimeter of the shower head.So why is this important you may ask. After descaling, it started to heat during the brew cycle, failed and beeped 3 times and went back to standy. I noticed when I first brewed a thermos that condensation built up behind the lcd screen. To remedy this I took off the reservoir's clear lid and and hoped it would dry out inside. Looking into the reservoir I also notice what looks like rust around one of the two valves that lead up to the shower head. These valves are completely sealed in plastic but one is showing rust that can be seen through the clear plastic of the reservoir. These valves are completely sealed in plastic but one is showing rust that can be seen through the clear plastic of the reservoir. This is a beautiful coffee maker and the coffee is good, but there are several moisture retention issues that go beyond what I would consider normal. I've sent this item back for replacement already but I'm very concerned about what appears to be fatal faults with the coffee machine's design and the internal condensation.
